Mattock Starts!

3-0 Walcott.

This is abit harsh for RoI, If you just looked at the result you'd imagine RoI had played fairly poor but RoI have played fairly well.

To be fair though, the second half has been very open and we've just caught them on the break. Should've had another just then as well, poor pass by Gardner (I think).

officials doing england a few favours. RoI scored at 2-0 and it was disallowed but Mattock was clearly playing them on! :S

good going forward though

Marvellous how good he's become between Saturday and Tuesday. I wonder if it's got anything to do with pushing up to help the good players in front of him and actually spending some time with the ball, attacking?

I bet I can guess which game he's found easier.

Makes you wonder how well our other "not good enough" youngsters would have fared in that company too.

best thing i can say is that he doesn't look at all out of his depth, distribution's been very good and always open. good 1 joey!

The question is why is my avatar your wife? :giggle:

She has the nice boobies.

I'll tell him - they cost a bit but we think they're worth it. It'll be great when the whole change has finished.

The goal should have been disallowed anyway. Keough wasn't offside but Rooney was. If Keough would have scored it then it would have been an injustice to rule it out, but he squared it to Rooney who was offside when the initial defence splitting pass was played. Does that even make sense?

Oh and well done Mattock on a fine game. Thats two good games Joeys had for the 21s. He needs to replicate that form in the league now.

I was out so didn't see the game but by all accounts it seems he did very well. Well Done to the lad on continuing to impress at that level and lets hope its a sign of things to come for him in the future.

yeh that makes sense, but i didn't know if Keough's pass was the '2nd phase' of play and should therefore stand, or if like u say it shudda been ruled out (if that makes sense?! :D:blink: )

but Joe played well so good on him

I thought he was very good tonight, didn't look out of place at all in a very strong side. That is an incredible achievement given what the rest of that side would look like playing in our first team.

Would have been great if Walcott had converted that easy chance Mattock made. Great run.

It gets lost in the ether because he plays the same position as Wonderboy but the fact we can produce a 17-year-old who plays for England Under-21s is a better advert for our Academy than a million references to any number of kids out on loan who hasn't played for our first team yet.

:D I don't really know the official ruling but my explanation seems pheasable to me. You are right though the officials did make it easier for us. O'Toole was miles onside and got flagged off at one point too.

Still doesn't answer why a guy plays so indifferently at Blackpool on Satuday and then so well with quality players around him on Tuesday. And why he plays much more aggressive football, as he did in the FA Youth Cup against Palace.

Was it orders on Saturday or was his mind elsewhere?. It could have been either but he had an iffy game against Norwich too and all our other young players, while they do okay, seem to stop expressing themselves when they get in the first team.

And now it's happened to the new left winger. And before him Newton, Low, Sylla, Yeates, right back to Ryan Smith. Strikers have been the same. Who comes here and shines? Not Fryatt, Cort, Horsfield nor even Howard as yet. Are they all awful players? There must be some explanation.

It's funny. The sneering brigade say our kids aren't up to it and only warm to Mattock cos a Premiership side have bid lots for him so they must be right. Nonsense? Well until recently the vote was around 60-40 for preferring Shush! in the team to Mattock and those same fans were calling Stearman everything until, what, three weeks back when Villa's interest was mentioned and suddenly he's competing with Hayles as Player of the Month.

Despite all the sneering on here, the International Youth team managers keep picking not just Mattock but Shush!, King, Ashley Chambers and others before them.

Yes I know, every other youth manager picks crap - apart from Mattock - but my point remains, why the difference, why the inhibition, why the constant fear when these people play in our first team - and not just these but a good many seniors too?

Weight of expectation, lack of stability and poor technical coaching.

Different tactics, different style of play, different instructions, different conditions, different surroundings.
