Darkzzz_ Posted 12 February 2008 Posted 12 February 2008 It wouldn't be BBC 'Have Your Say' without someone mentioning paedophiles when it's got nothing to do with the issue in question (and spelling it wrong as well, of course). If you think FT is full of mentals just look at ANY 'Have your say' debate and you'll soon see it's not that bad Agreed!! Some of the comments on there are very well thought up in my opinion! You can see all the hard work and effort they have put in! Freaks!
Trav Le Bleu Posted 12 February 2008 Posted 12 February 2008 Not at all.You can knock on my virtual door all night long. Cool - was slightly worried by your Hitler Youth reference elsewhere, but I see your famous Swiss neutrality came through! This is a footie forum - I leave the religion at home
DB11 Posted 12 February 2008 Posted 12 February 2008 Yes, is this a problem?Irritating I'd give you - but harmful? Can I just ask why Jehova's Witnesses feel the urge to knock on other peoples' doors and try to get them to switch? No other religion feels the need to do it (or is that because Jehova's Witnesses need more members - ok bad joke) I think you believe in something like only the select few will go up to heaven with God. If this is true why do you go around getting people to believe you - is it that easy to become one of the select few?!
MikeyT Posted 12 February 2008 Posted 12 February 2008 Maybe if they didn't rip us off with the prices we wouldn't do it back??

I don't beleive I'm on of the select few that go to heaven... but that's by the by - this ain't the place for discussing religion Oh, and not the only religion that proselytizes - plenty do that - hence we shouldn't be singled out (not for that reason at least) Oh and I did have someone come to the door naked once - it was funny - shame she was in her 80's! For the record, we made our excuses and told her she really ought to keep warm (I assumed she had dementia, but I guess it could have just been personal choice ) It is however forever burned into my mind.
Lillehamring Posted 12 February 2008 Posted 12 February 2008 people downloading music has nothing to do with acts becoming crap.... i was taping stuff of the radio in the early 80s... this is not the place to go into the many many reasons for labels signing rubbish acts... but, ironically, the signing overtly commercial acts at the expense of 'creative' original artists has actually brought about an upsurge in REAL INDEPENDENT music, because major labels will not consider UNSOLICITED demos, the majority of these quality acts have put their music online. personally, if i am forced to try to sell my music myself, and have to resort to just letting people download it for nothing, just for the satisfaction of letting it be heard, then so can bloody EMI, and if they adamantly refuse to reissue deleted music, then what choice do people have but to share bootleged or ripped vinyl. labels only have themselves to blame, for churning out so much crap that no one wants to buy, i try to buy new releases, but if something is not available cause the labels won't spend the money, then what choice do we have...
Jay Posted 12 February 2008 Posted 12 February 2008 the main problem is greed of the record companies pure and simple I myself am a very rare breed in being totally legal I have an emusic account and buy cds and don't do any files sharing!!! BUT while the likes of Itunes still insist on charging the same amount for a download as buying the actual cd then what real insentive is there to buy from them? I myself would rather by the cd for the same amount than some DRM protected rubbish. this goes for record shops like HMV as well whose prices are nothing more than a disgrace why or why do they insist on charging such high prices £14.99 for cds that are under a tenner in ASDA and online at Play and Amazon? when in reality they must buy equally as many copies themselves. They have had it there own way for ages and have been fleecing customers for years. A download has no distribution costs, not manufacturing costs in terms of a physical product and no retail mark up so why do they insist in charging the same price? GREED I see no reason why a record company can't charge their selling price what £4.00? for a downloadable album DRM Free and I am sure many more people would buy legally and the record companies and artists would still get exactly the same money and would be the best way to reduce file sharing imo
Daggers Posted 12 February 2008 Posted 12 February 2008 I download music, games and films using file-sharing sites. If it's any good and I use it on a repeat basis I'll buy it - if not I won't. I paid for more than my share of crap in the past and I'm not doing it anymore - I refuse to be ripped off thanks to a bunch of coke-addled morons in a marketing department.

Dames Posted 12 February 2008 Posted 12 February 2008 if that happened you would witness the death of the internet. I'd say about 80% of internet users are Net Pirates in one form or another.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 12 February 2008 Posted 12 February 2008 people downloading music has nothing to do with acts becoming crap.... i was taping stuff of the radio in the early 80s So was I, but I wasn't able to tape a whole album off the radio before it came out and be bored shitless of it by the time it actually gets released this goes for record shops like HMV as well whose prices are nothing more than a disgrace why or why do they insist on charging such high prices £14.99 for cds that are under a tenner in ASDA and online at Play and Amazon? when in reality they must buy equally as many copies themselves. They have had it there own way for ages and have been fleecing customers for years. I don't know if ASDA do this but Tesco admitted not that long ago that they sell CDs at below cost price just to encourage people into their stores, and this unfair competition is one of the main reasons why there are hardly any independent record shops anymore. Amazon are relatively cheap presumably because they don't have the expense of running a network of shops and their turnover is massive so they can operate on tight margins, and a lot of other online retailers operate out of Jersey so you don't pay VAT on the purchases (note how HMV online's prices are quite a lot lower than their instore ones). I'm no fan of HMV particularly but I'd be sad to see it go as it's about the only actual shop left that stocks the sort of CDs I buy
Trav Le Bleu Posted 12 February 2008 Posted 12 February 2008 Well there are two of us!! Three - having the physical reality of the packaged CD/DVD is great. Interesting point BS makes about taping off the radio too - though the number of mates albums I taped and albums from the library (40p a week) were... well, into 3 figures. But a hand written box just doesn't look good. I do wonder if it's something you grow out of?
Bluemoon Posted 12 February 2008 Posted 12 February 2008 Yeah i read this earlier, i have a IP blocker, not sure how much difference it will make, im sure they will find me out somehow. But like you say, they will lose a lot of customers through this. I download a lot of shite but i never distribute it. I think this ok IMO. It obviously dosen't take much of a threat to worry you. If all City fans are like you, no wonder the team are in trouble. Have some gumption man! Stand up for yourself!......Don't think much of your defence though......guilty!
