Why would you have a defender and striker in Midfield? With 3 midfielders on the bench!!

Ultra Posted 30 March 2008 Author Posted 30 March 2008 Ye and thats a winning team! Why would you have a defender and striker in Midfield? With 3 midfielders on the bench!! For this game, N'Gotty's a better starting option than Weso, and Hayles gives us more strength and power on the left than Laczko would. It's not rocket science..

Flexx Posted 30 March 2008 Posted 30 March 2008 Even though Bell put some good crosses in, he never really looked comfortable on the wing. You could see he was eager to get in the centre at every oppurtunity. Give him a go in the centre, if it doesn't work out then bring Weso on for him or Etuhu. So Weso can go in centre, and Bell back out wide.
Flynny Posted 31 March 2008 Posted 31 March 2008 Henderson Stearman Kisnorbo N Gotty MattockBell Oakley Weso LazckoHoward Hume/Fryatt Winner. If Ollie goes with N'Gotty in midfield though I won't complain. Aerial presence in that part of the pitch is good, especially for away games.
Scaramanga! Posted 31 March 2008 Posted 31 March 2008 i say keep bell on the wing. him and stearman looked like they've got a pretty good understanding of each others play, and it's about time we had a player that brought the best out of stearman. plus he has the pace and skill to beat defenders.

Did you just use the word pace in the same paragraph about Bell. Or was there a misunderstanding.
C-man Posted 31 March 2008 Posted 31 March 2008 Clearly it's something close to that if you think having Hayles wide left is going to benefit us going forward. " " This is unfair on Baz! He was quite useful on the left against Hull and WBA.
Simi Posted 31 March 2008 Posted 31 March 2008 This is unfair on Baz! He was quite useful on the left against Hull and WBA. He got a lot more room against West Brom with them being behind to 10. At Hull he put the effort in, and had a decent game. I'll give him that.' But we've seen Howard benefit from having two good wide players in the last game, it'd be a shame to lose that for this Saturday. Even if it means keeping Baz out the team.
Simi Posted 31 March 2008 Posted 31 March 2008 Ched you traitorous hound. Out. C-Man knows of my Barry worshiping. It's top notch. The sad thing for you pair though, is the following. Also Ultra, you might want to roll your eyes at this... And the City boss also confirmed that he would be without two other key players for the trip to Sheffield United next week."Barry Hayles is suspended, while Lee Hendrie is unable to play due to a clause in his loan agreement. HA.
Flynny Posted 31 March 2008 Posted 31 March 2008 Also Ultra, you might want to roll your eyes at this... Okay I've changed my mind. You're cool again.

Thracian Posted 31 March 2008 Posted 31 March 2008 There's no way I'd pick Laczko ahead of Ryan Beswick and neither would anyone else if you'd seen the two on the same pitch. I suppose Beswick will remain one of those players who's forever overlooked because he does things so simply and so quickly - two touches is about the lot for Beswick - that he's hardly noticed. Laczko is another Kaebi, for me. People pick him and I can see no earthly reason why. He's disappointed in every game apart from Coventry and there haven't been any reserve games for him to play in to change that opinion and show that he's made a significant degree of improvement. He'll be dreadfully short of match practise anyway. Not only that but Beswick plays left back as well as left wing and will be much more useful in defensive aspects of the game and we're going to need that at Sheffield. Finally he's partnered Mattock countless times and the two cog in well together.
Thracian Posted 31 March 2008 Posted 31 March 2008 There's very few occasions I'd advocate the often visually offensive 4-5-1 but the Sheffield game is one of them. Having won our last game and with our superior goal difference, one win and two draws might just be enough to save us and a draw at Bramall Lane in the circumstances might be acceptable especially if the line up gave us just the sneaking chance of a win. Two players, King and Beswick are key. Because both can attack and defend. My choice: Henderson; Stearman, McAuley, Kisnorbo, Mattock; Bell, King, N'Gotty, Oakley, Beswick; Howard. Subs: Chambers, Weso, Fryatt, Campbell, Hayles. Strange? Maybe but King is excellent at ghosting into the penalty box and can score with head or feet. With two genuine wide players, there's no reason we should work the ball into the box and the prescence of King, Oakley, Howard should give us the chance to get someone on the end of it. Beswick takes quality free-kicks and having Howard, N'Gotty, King, McAuley, Kisnorbo to get on the end of them would almost be MON in concept - the kamikaze squad. Having proper wide men would give us a better chance of more corners/free-kicks so that would be my approach. Having the three centre-backs would also allow our wing-backs to drive forward, particularly as both King and Beswick are good coverers.
Mort Posted 31 March 2008 Posted 31 March 2008 We should be looking to keep the ball and hold the game in the midfield, none of the total lack of intent our approch against Hull saw the other week, we have to be looking to press or at least frustrate Sheff Utd, as a result a flexible 4-4-2 which can easily switch to 4-5-1 or even 4-4-3 could be the best way to approch the game (if of course our players can manage it). Henderson Stearman McAuley N'Gotty Mattock (I'm assuming Clapham is still out?) Bell Oakley Weso (if not King) Laczko (willing to hear other suggestions, but with no Hendrie and no Clem seems likle the obvious choice) Howard Campbell Subs. Douglas, Kisnorbo, Etuhu, Hayles, Hume.

If he's as good as you say he is then it's a shame really but you can't expect other people to agree with you if they haven't seen the lad play. The team I'd go for would be:- Henderson Stearman Kisnorbo N'Gotty Mattock Etuhu Weso Oakley Bell Howard Hume/Fryatt Subs:- Hume/Fryatt, Laczko, King, Mcauley, J.Chambers I have a feeling Ollie will stick Hume out on one of the wings again. I'd be tempted to go with Fryatt up front because although he missed a few sitters against S****horpe, on another day they might go in. The lad isn't going to get any confidence by getting dropped every game. As I said yesterday, give him half of next season and if he's still not performing then get rid. I'm not a Fryatt lover but if the lad gets some confidence then hopefully we might start to see the best of him.

Free kicks: ======= Laczko - Doesn't take em. Beswick: Takes all and is very dangerous. Defensive: ======= Laczko looks lost. Beswick: Has played full-back.
Thracian Posted 31 March 2008 Posted 31 March 2008 "I'm not a Fryatt lover but I'd like to see him given a fair chance." I just love that. Reminds me of George Orwell's 1984. Some are mor equal than others when it comes to getting chances. What is it, 31 chances so far this season alone.
