Flexx Posted 4 April 2008 Posted 4 April 2008 I remember this time last year, when Worthington was in charge, a lot of us were complaining about the player's lack of fitness. No one has really mentioned it this season so do we think this has improved in our game? We do seem a lot more lively at the end of game's this season, and are not letting in so many late goals.

Generally in games where we've been shit (and lets face it there's been a lot) we've had a late rally at the end. Then the words "too late" and "why couldn't we have done that earlier" comes to mind.

Fitness I think has improved, plus we have a lot more balance to the squad in terms of age, youth and experience. However I think the problem now is mentality and its been commented on a lot, especially when back to back wins comes into the equation, we need to get a winning mentality into this side and thats not easy when many of them have been used to losing so often.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 4 April 2008 Posted 4 April 2008 Haven't noticed it as an issue at all this season.

You've hit it on the head.
Daggers Posted 4 April 2008 Posted 4 April 2008 ...but hang on, Kelly was a brilliant coach. How come a a brilliant coach could have a team that was so unfit? He couldn't. Therefore, because Kelly was a brilliant coach we did not have an unfit team last season. QED. It is just that this season's squad are much more fitter.

It's a little-known fact that Kelly often moonlights as Fox Travel Coach #3 when Preston aren't playing.
Flexx Posted 4 April 2008 Author Posted 4 April 2008 In fact i even managed to find a thread about it in January last year. http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/index.ph...16&hl=unfit Maybe a good pre-season with Allen helped them? I no he employed a fitness coach did he not. It's nothing major, obviously it's not all about fitness as we are still hovering just above relegation. As a poster said above, there's a mental factor aswell.
Legend_in_blue Posted 4 April 2008 Posted 4 April 2008 Worthington's comments last season summed up Kelly's reign for me quite well. A good coach should surely be able to maintain high levels of fitness within his squad. Kelly's managerial skills were questionable, but his coaching skills, which were supposed to be good, left a lot to be desired imo. Players appear to be fitter though this season, I've not noticed a drop in fitness levels within games too much.
Daggers Posted 4 April 2008 Posted 4 April 2008 In fact i even managed to find a thread about it in January last year. ~BARTON FOX!!! The team very grossly unfit at the start of the season, Kelly should have been sacked for gross incompetence after Luton, and with no reserves it has been impossible to catch up.There is only one man to blame and that is the manager, pure and simple, and yet there was a huge hula-bulo at pre-season about Kelly and Fat Mike putting together a scientific pre seeason regime. The man is a joke. I miss intelligent people.

The realists (ie. not the Kelly fans) were making the same case last season... if he was such a "great coach" then how come out squad so patently unfit?... to be fair the lack of a reserve team playing reguarly played a role but any decent coach can, at the very least, keep a squad fit.
Raj Posted 5 April 2008 Posted 5 April 2008 Talking about fitness...i did a 4 mile run yday. MY arse is fcuking aching this morning. Nowt to do with the run....i had that Aleksipopopopopopopopopopopopopopopopopopopopopopopopoposspopsopso round!!!!
Bellend Sebastian Posted 5 April 2008 Posted 5 April 2008 I don't fancy any of them. Fitness is still very much an issue
