Ric Flair Posted 21 April 2008 Posted 21 April 2008 I really, really, really want Ian Holloway to do well here. My outburst, I will still stand by. Joe Mattock deserves to be playing right now, his performances at WBA and at home to S****horpe were proof he's in form right now, where as Clapham has been injured pretty much for the majority of the past 2 months and he relies on being fully fit to perform at a decent level. By all accounts Clapham was garbage at Barnsley, but we won and kept a clean sheet so I suppose he played his part. I've never been a big fan of Holloway and that's my problem. When you don't rate someone, it's very difficult to stay loyal to them and back them when they make a lot of mistakes. Mandaric has stated that he's happy with Holloway though, so the desire for stability here might be granted and that can't be a bad thing IMO unless Ollie does lose the plot even more than he has done this season and I doubt it could get any worse for him than it already has bar relegation and i'd like to think he has enough about him to see us through the remaining two games without getting relegated. Let's hope he learns from his mistakes, he's swallowed his pride and let Hume have another crack up front after increasing pressure to do so and it's paid off in a roundabout fashion.
Ric Flair Posted 21 April 2008 Posted 21 April 2008 Everytime I think about it Casting my mind back, I cannot remember my actions at the time of typing this, I was in the office so I imagine I tried my best to keep my cool, but I fear my colleagues probably clocked my unexplained anger.

My Dad would go from nought to outraged in 2 seconds about stuff like the printing on the side of a yogurt pot. It reminded me of that...are you sure you aren't doing my Mum?

You could of at least zipped him back up afterwards, you lout. (crackin pair of bristols though)
Thracian Posted 21 April 2008 Posted 21 April 2008 I don't see where the 'arguably' comes from? It was a hard-fought and well-earned victory resulting from an outstanding team goal created in open play. Anyone that saw the match will attest that it was exciting and sphincter-clenching - in other words: good value for money.Where 'one result' comes into play is that there have been two matches since the last poll where 2/3's of people who voted (the last time I looked) expressed an opinion for Holloway to stay and I am interested (bearing in mind the fickle nature of our support) to see if that has increased to 3/4's. I fail to see either how Holloway can be judged on our relative position in the League. We can use business analogies or go for more dramatic oil tankers at sea, the upshot is that anyone who has witnessed rot in an organisation knows - change takes time. Our culture had become corrupted by Kelly's heroes, in turn building on failures that went before. Maybe someone like Ince would have done differently - but I really fail to see how he could have turned Casino Jim and the Legion of Right Backs into anything approaching a better team than IH has managed. He's made some questionable decisions - Hume on the right-wing being the biggest for me - but I see no value in throwing the baby out with the bath water. Do I think Holloway has learned from his time? Yes I do. Likewise, I reckon Mandaric has learned one or two things as well. Here's to a summer of goodness, of decent squad strengthening and a push for mid-table mediocrity next season I've watched the "team goal" on video and there was a lot too it. Smashing goal. Never sugggested differently. Barnsley also hit the woodwork twice, they should probably have had a penalty and Henderson was Man of the Match in at least one national so he clearly played his part too. So there is plenty of argument for Leicester bein fortunate - and about time too I would add because we've been robbed often enough but that's bye-the-bye. But nothing that happened at Barnsley served to change my opinion of Holloway as a manager. If he's as good as we are likely to get I've no strong feelings about him carrying on but I'll be pleasantly surprised if he's successful for us (defined as top six) for the reasons I've already given.
Ultra Posted 21 April 2008 Posted 21 April 2008 mid-table mediocrity will not be good enough next season. We have spent millions this year and if the right money is spent, and players are signed in the summer, we should really be pushing for promotion. And why not? We need a decent manager though, which Ollie has proved to me he's not. If Ferguson can get Peterborough promoted by signing 9 non-League players and spending very little, imagine what he could do spending £5 million here. Great things. Ollie isn't good enough to get us promoted out of this division in my opinion.

Daggers Posted 22 April 2008 Author Posted 22 April 2008 Lot less overall votes - but still a substancial majority in favour of Ollie staying. He's like a big managerial Lemon Puff.
luffbra Posted 22 April 2008 Posted 22 April 2008 I voted for Ollie to stay ... We need to give him a proper pre-season ... If it's still the same at Christmas, then he goes!!

ozleicester Posted 23 April 2008 Posted 23 April 2008 I have never been a huge Ollie fan, but to expect him to develop a side that is, brimming with confidence and playing exciting fluent football every week is a bit of an ask given the timing of his takeover. The side was tripping its way toward relegation, the chairman was shooting anything/anyone that turned the wrong way, the supporters were abusing each and every player depending on which week we were in. I think he has picked up some useful players, begun to play some decent football and is doing all he can to avoid relegation, he deserves another 9 months to build and create his team and its style, i actually think with the time...we have the makings of a good side.
Daggers Posted 23 April 2008 Author Posted 23 April 2008 Wow...this is why I started the thread. Two weeks ago 2/3's wanted him to stay....four points later and riding high in the form table and it's now four to one. While this level of support exists, while he is having his name chanted home and away, Mandy is never going to boot him out. The man would need to have someone substantial to replace him with, under the current circumstances.

Koke Posted 23 April 2008 Posted 23 April 2008 So once again, the vast majority want him to stay. Just like the poll we did last time. And overwhelming 75% are for him to stay here.
