Reserves player ratings v Shrews

Alnwick 6 (Dealt competently with several long range hot-shots and had no chance with the goals).

James Chambers 6 (So fast but as ever, lacking of a final pass).

Rowe-Turner 6 (Did some good work without ever dominating).

Worley 3 (Two cock-ups, two goals conceded. At least there'll be room for improvement).

Mattock 5 (Nowhere near his best. Subbed second half without making any great impression).

Bori 4 (Over elaborated, was caught in possession and never looked comfortable or effective).

Hellings 3 (Sent off which was probably a blessing for the team cos he's not changed in wanting too many touches.)

Andy King 7.25 (Calm and generally competent. Contributed to the DJ goal and did so well to hold midfield together when the team was reduced to 10 men).

Laczko 4 (Just didn't look tough enough for English football. Pulled right out of one 50-50 ball and tended to look like he was competing without actually doing so. Looked utterly lost when he moved into midfield with King second half, one snap shot which went wide being the only highlight I can recall).

DJ Campbell 8 (One goal, one assist and one big nightmare for Shrewsbury even if the swirling wind did make ball control difficult for him. Clear MoM).

Fryatt 6.5 (Assist for the Sappleton goal and a few other good breaks although not as sharp as I've seen him).

Subs:

Sappleton 7.25 (Inspiring. One goal and one big hunk of discomfort for the Shrews to deal with. His presence second half definitely coincided with City's improvement).

Magunda 6 (Hand a hand in the Sappleton goal which would have been a welcome boost at the end of an injury-plagued season).

Beswick 5.5 (Only on for a shortish time which is a pity because the team was crying out for his skills and he'll have no idea why he should be pushed out of the side by Laczko cos I'm damned sure I don't).

Is it just me or is Sappleton in imperious form for youth and reserve sides at the moment? All bandwagoning aside.

Oh and you've missed Worley.

If he's not going to bother working on his shortcomings then I'm damned sure I'm not going to report on him each and every week grumble grumble, She ehan, King, Beswick all amazing.

Thrac, how many times...

Sappleton needs an 11 no matter what.

I did think of you when I wrote that but marked him down a bit just to give the others some heart. I just loved it when the referee had a go at him. I had visions of Sapp picking him up between thumb and forefinger and lobbing him over the stand. :scarf:

lol I think we'd all pay to see that.

Yeah, well considering you called him KING KONG or BIG APE or something, I think your views on race and the way that different races might act have been made quite clear in the past and we certainly don't want them repeated.

Have you quite finished?

Thanks. I must have subconsciously wanted to forget about Worley. :(

Sapp has a presence, no question and that's three goals in two games over the last few days. He had another thunderbolt that was charged down early in its flight but I'd have liked to have seen where it was heading.

He sure does focus on shooting and if he hits em any harder health and safety will start insisting on flak jackets for goallies.

Watching much under par Mattock tonight I was reminded of Shush!'s last game for the reserves and how continually involved he was from start to finish, both in defence and attack. Never mind - they're on different paths.

It's a wonder that he's been in and out of the Leeds side and not attracting interest from the big four.

If you put in a cheeky bid, you could probably have him as your tea boy!

And neither of them involve City...

From the pictures I've seen of you and Fez, I'd imagine any bid of mine would be too little too late. :D

After watching the reserves last night, given the team we put out it was painfully obvious that reserve football for some players is a waste of time as they won't put in the level of performance they would for the first team. Some might say that's a disgrace, but it's inevitable too be honest.

I was impressed with DJ last night, thought him being asked to play in the reserves would have been demoralising and he'd have looked un-interested like he often has when things don't go his way, but he looked up for it and did well. But rightly so against a reserve team from a lower league.

Worley had a shocker, but I saw signs of promise in the way he plays the game. He just made two glaring errors that cost us 2 goals, but with the right coaching he'll be a top class centre half at Championship level. He can play football, we don't have a centre half who can do that naturally, N'Gotty's passing ability has escaped him a season or two ago. You can tell Worley has come from a top club, but for all the neat and tidy stuff, he needs to work on concentration, marking, aggression and clearing his lines.

Mattock was un-interested, I reckon there's been a tiff between Ollie and Joe. He's a player who will put in everything he's got at any level, but last night he looked elsewhere. It's a shame, but given Clapham's shenanigans recently it's probably understandable.

Andy King was busy as ever, looked a class above anything else in our midfield last night and I hope he get's more of a chance next season, or a loan spell to prove to Holloway he's got what it takes ala Gradel.

The two Hungarians were no where near what they can achieve, but i'm going to stick up for them. You come from abroad to a country you've probably never been too, with the murmoured promise of first team football. To be faced with being cast out in the cold and made to play for the reserves, I know how hard it must be to force an impression. These two are wasted in the reserves they might as well be sent home if Ollie is still unsure on them, it benefits no-one them being played in the stiffs.

Laczko has natural talent, but I agree with Thracian. The lad has a lack of physical ability, which is ridiculous given he's 6 foot and fairly well built for a winger. He just doesn't like the rough and tumble of English football. Now if Ollie and co can't drill that in to him before the seasons out then he'll be a busted flush in this country, which is a shame as I think he'd be quality if he had that aggression needed. He'll score goals, we need players like that. But it won't happen here by the look of things.

Fryatt was as un-lethal as ever, his confidence must be shot to pieces. If I was Holloway I would be sending him to see a Sports Pyschologist, they'd have him sorted. The boy could finish when he first got here, he either needs to move on or get some help. Missing open goals and headers from 2 yards as a professional footballer is disturbing, but he's obviously buried a hell of a lot of those sorts of chances to get to where he is as a professional footballer.

Sappleton was a menace when he came on, their defence looked terrified every time the ball was in the vacinity of the man mountain. I'd love to see him improve to the level needed to be a first teamer, he can finish that's for sure.

The rest of the lads were average, nothing special. Hellings made me giggle, I wish Laczko had his aggression!

Beswick wasn't on long enough to do much damage, but he looked keen.

Insightful as ever.

Agree about Joe. Something's wrong. That wasn't the real Joe Mattock. I had hoped they'd play Beswick in front of him or the pair in tandem down the left. It might have served more purpose.

Whatever's happened Joe needs to get his head down and realise that disappointments are a part of football. Mind you Holloway does seem to have one rule concerning iffy performances by the youngsters and quite another when it comes to the more experienced players and the effect so far is to have Mattock playing way below his best which is no recommendation for any manager.

I agree with laczko im sure its different in greece or hungary but he or bori are just not suied to the english game. I dont think ollie will buy either of them. Its surprising because, when we signed laczko on loan aollie said that he couldn't wait to see him in a leicester shirt!

on the way game on saturday i heard someone say mattock had flu, may still be feeling rough?

With two such vital games ahead you'd have thought they'd have sent him home if he had flu.
