MPH Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 The thought came to me today... We'll have standing areas in away grounds? I know Peterborough has standing areas still and im sure most others will have too... proper standing at games!
SamL Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 The thought came to me today... We'll have standing areas in away grounds? Fez of Mahrez Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 I would imagine stewards will be a bit more lenient in League One. Lower league fans are more used to standing, generally speaking.
Dom_Harborough Fox Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 I hope so anyway. It'll be nice to be able to stand up & concentrate on the match rather than having a constant battle with the stewards over it
iancognito Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 Having seen some of the cowshed stands in Division 3 in one of the other threads, you might have to stand, the leg room was designed for dwarves & pixies by the look of it. Sitting in the old double decker with someone's knees in your back wasn't my happiest memory of Filbert Street
Corky Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 League 1 stewards will probably be better than the Championship.

Fox You Forest Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 League 1 stewards will probably be better than the Championship. Yeah until you actually need one.
Corky Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 Yeah until you actually need one. Yes, but I'm sure the stewards in League are probably fans of the home team, so they might be more lenient.
RedHux Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 Sorry. Stewards are stewards are stewards. Some are nice friendly sorts....some are the same little hitlers in hi-vis we all know and love.
Staf Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 Sorry. Stewards are stewards are stewards. Some are nice friendly sorts....some are the same little hitlers in hi-vis we all know and love. Great im sure they wont be that bad there only stewards
Sods Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 By the way. I find it unlikely we will get the terrace for Carlise.
Shrenchel Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 Sorry. Stewards are stewards are stewards. Some are nice friendly sorts....some are the same little hitlers in hi-vis we all know and love. Got mates who support various League One clubs who say there are only 3 or 4 grounds you ever get asked to sit down at, and even those will give up if there's any significant number of people not listening to them and doing it anyway.
clazkel Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 I hope so anyway. It'll be nice to be able to stand up & concentrate on the match rather than having a constant battle with the stewards over it Yeah it will be nice, and also it'll stop people behind you telling you to sit down. At Stoke i was in row 3, and a man 2 rows behind me kept telling everyone to sit down and it was really bugging me, a game as big as Stoke was i wanted to stand up but he kept whinging, so we had to sit down!
purpleronnie Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 Not sure league 1 would be easier, smaller crowds mean its easier for stewards to control fans. You cant get 3,000 newcastle fans to sit but you can easily get 300 to. Just like everywhere else fans have to stick together. And BTW standing is not illegal.
iancognito Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 It's like that at many Championship grounds, Wolves in particular. That's true actually Sam, whoever measured up the space between the seats was obviously blinded by the ridiculous colour. Selhurst is another like that.
Tommeh Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 Never sat down at a game all season and won't do next season either. Terraces are great but not totally different for the core of our support which stands persistantly every game. Stoke and Sheff united was great where just aobut all our support stood, just like the chelsea, forest villa cup games
act smiley Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 Okay so there's a lot of people who'll stand anyway if they can't get on a terrace, and we've had some belting atmospheres doing that, but its always nice to have the real deal and it means that people who want to sit can do. Just a pity that there's so few left even at this level.
Dom_Harborough Fox Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 probably dragging up a point that's been covered a thousand times before, sorry if that's the case. But what really gets to me is that even if you're standing up on the back row you still get told to sit down. It's pretty obvious that if you are right at the back you are not going to be blocking anyone's view. Also, standing up does not mean that you are going to cause trouble or cause any safety issues. It's just another way of enjoying the match, supporting your team and getting more out of the matchday experience. I stand at the majority of away games & if asked to sit down by someone behind me then I either do or move somewhere where I'm not in anyone's way. I don't see what trouble this causes anyone.
Maybes Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 Yeah it will be nice, and also it'll stop people behind you telling you to sit down. At Stoke i was in row 3, and a man 2 rows behind me kept telling everyone to sit down and it was really bugging me, a game as big as Stoke was i wanted to stand up but he kept whinging, so we had to sit down! I was on the second row and stood for 90minutes
downdowndeeperdown Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 League One stewards seem to be very lax in their approach to away fans, obviously there are exceptions but a lot of people enjoy going to away games just for the thrill of being able to stand up for the entire match.
