Running and stuff

I use the time to people watch, if there's no sport to watch on the screens.

One thing I have learned is that there is no substitute for a decent sports bra, and all women, regardless of size, should invest in one! A fiver from Tesco is nothing!

Thank you!

Ran 15 miles this morning; however, I've had a niggly injury, which wasn't affecting my running, literally bite me on the bum. A bit of internet self-diagnosis suggests it's Piriformis Syndrome. I could kick myself, well, if it wasn't my dominant leg affected. I have always stretched properly, but have been less stringent about it over the past few months, due to running before work, and not making the time.

The treatment is, funnily enough, stretching. I shall give it a go, and see if that helps. If not, it could be something a lot more serious.

Fingers crossed.

And here's me thinking Piriformis syndrome is usually caused by sitting down (I know rowing etc) shows what I know!!!

Hope you get it fixed. Sounds like you know what you're talking about but make sure it isn't a hamstring insertion tear.

Sounds like your training is going really well and you should do a good time.

Bought a new GPS watch a few weeks back. Love it!

Got the Big Leicester 10k coming up, as well as the Loughborough Half. Hoping for 40 minutes and 1 hour 30 respectively. Might be a bit too early in the season for those times though!

Thanks; with the hard work I'm putting in, I should hope to get a good time!

The stretching is already helping. A valuable lesson to be learned!

I'm guessing it was you who sponsored me Lisa so many many thanks, I'll add your name to the "Hero List" which will be printed on my shirt.

If anybody else wants to be a Hero then have a gander at www.justgiving.co.uk/andycallus and donate or text EMIJ91 £5 to 70070 and add your name to the list!

Very very much appreciated.

Planned for 12 miles today but as we got lost we ended up doing between 16 and 17 miles (also lost a bit of gps for about a mile).

One thing that got me is a tightness in the bottom of my left leg just on top of my foot which prevents me from pulling my foot upwards (dorsi-flexion) towards my leg, like in a lying hamstring stretch, pointing my foot down is no problem, just pointing up - also its just the left let/foot ani ideas what it could be?

Had this once before after the GNR anybody know what exercises or stretches I can do to help? - cheers

Jesus sometimes the answer is so bloody obvious and you can't even see it!

Your probably right - The legs were a bit tight today and the old left knee was beginning to flare up so I banged some ibuprofen down my neck and instead of the Sunday recovery run I decided to get on the bike instead - just a REALLY light 20 mins then a sesh on the foam roller and loads of stretching too - it always take 2 days for my DOMS to kick in so tomorrow is gonna be sh!t

It's good innit'?

What time did you get?

I had a lovely time.

I got 25 minutes something. I was pretty pleased because I've hardly ran since last summer. Plenty of room for improvement!

Edit: forgetting my manners - how did you get on?

Didn't do it this week as I'm doing the Wellingborough 10k tomorrow and if I'm honest, with the state me knee is in I shouldn't be so ive been cross training a lot this week.

Cheers, I've never used a knee support before but I have one for tomorrow that said, don't want to rely on it in future - next up is Silverstone 1/2 in a few weeks really can't wait for that bad boy!

I've had to use a knee support in the past; they're okay, and don't hinder your running too much.

Because of our progress in the FA Cup, I'm having to withdraw from the Ashby 20. Now looking for a decent 20 mile running route.

Did my race today - had to do it alone as my running partner is injured (more so than me!).

He organised it and I was expecting a road race - it wasnt most was off road in a country park but the scenery was nice and I got a PB!!!

42:29 and I came 19th out of 108 in the 10k race, there was an option of 5, 10 or 15k

Bit of rest and conditioning and I'll be ready for Silverstone BRING IT!

Don't think I could hack the Silverstone. Loop, loop, loop. Like a bad cartoon.

I've never done It before - but the feeling I'm getting is that silverstone is a bit like Marmite - people either love or hate it.

I think I will enjoy it as I am a fan of F1 and have never been to Silverstone before - I quite like the history and tradition of the place.

My knee is causin some serious pain today so it's off to the physio for me tomorrow - hopefully ill be fit for the race (it's only in 2 weeks!!!). But if not I'll have too miss it and concentrate on being ready for London.

Nag not this time, it's on the inside of the knee - had physio booked in for tomorrow morning to find out - but now a good client wants a session 2moro morning and I follow cash round like a divining rod so will have to be Thursday.

M gaffs who has done a very basic course in a cross between physiotherapy/functional training and other stuff thinks it could be light damage to anterior cruciate ligament or one ofthe medial ligaments. Fingers crossed he's wrong because we all know what that means and I REALLY don't want to miss silverstone.

GOOD NEWS!!!!

The old ligaments are all okay! What I have is called "Chondromalacia patella" (I had to google the bastard cos I had no idea how to spell or say it, the physio called it CMP).

Said I should be okay for Silverstone so long as I rest untill then and only do crosstraing cardio and light weight sessions so no squats or deadlifts for me for a few weeks :(

So back into the pool I'm going and also the bike, not allowed to do breast stroke though (frog like kicking) only front crawl.

He did ultra sound, heat treatment, a bit of massage and stretching and gave me some exercises to do too.

I just happened to mention that I'm a personal trainer so he gave me a knockoff price and a loa of his business cards to give to my injured clients so had a right result.

Mostly I'm just happy I can run Silverstone and this has absolutely made my day.

EDIT: I think I should point out the I dont injure my clients, just if they injure themselves in their own workouts, I'll send them to him!!

That's excellent news, glad Silverstone is now achievable. Am after a bit of advice - I have felt some slight pain on the exterior of my right knee when running for some time and have booked through my GP to see a physio. I suspect it's a ligament strain due to running with trainers that were fit for the scrap heap. Only problem is it will take 2-3 weeks to arrange a consultation. Should I pay to see a specialist sports physio now? Do they provide a better overall service to warrant the cost? It's driving me mad not being able to run my usual distances so I don't want to delay having a consultation but am not in severe pain so am also tempted to wait for this general referral. Any advice?
