FoxesAreBlue Posted 9 April 2012 Posted 9 April 2012 Now I've slept on it, (and im in a slightly better mood).Your right I don't need to run the full distance in advance. Also on race day I will be pumped from the atmosphere (I absolutely love it!) but perhaps most importantly, unlike yesterday's disaster i will be fuelled properly so fingers crossed!
Guest Posted 9 April 2012 Posted 9 April 2012 Now by chance I did forget my lunch today even after getting up early to prepare it before work but now I start the taper and the marathon is in two weeks and the max distance I have ran is 18 miles. IM 8 ****ING MILES SHORT!!!To say I'm disgusted with myself is a ****ing understatement, I've ****ed now. Last time I did London, I miscalculated my 20 miler, and only ran 18 miles as my longest run. I did not suffer for it on the day, so don't worry!! I'd just like to point out that I'm a self-deprecating hypocrite, and so I will hate myself for not training properly My legs are also killing today after doing Belvoir HM yesterday, with hardly any training (been so busy at work had no time to run), lactic burn! Hope you are feeling better soon Lisa, you missed a lovely race yesterday but def. made the right choice! I know in my head I've done the right thing, but panic is beginning to set in! Glad you enjoyed the race, and I may well run it next year! LisaSorry to hear you've got a virus. Don't push yourself too much as you won't gain much extra fitness now. Tapering is a nervous time for everyone. Get yourself better before you do much more. Thanks, as I said above, I know, but I am my biggest critic, so I'll beat myself up about it!!
FoxesAreBlue Posted 20 April 2012 Posted 20 April 2012 To Lisa and anybody else who is heading to Laandan Tahn this weekend with myself may I wish you GOOD LUCK! I hope you achieve whatever goals you have set out to beat (in my case, get round and anything less than 4hrs is a bonus now) and enjoy the day. Hopefully it won't piss it down all day and the crowds will come out. Many thanks to those who sponsored me and if you haven't yet there is still time! Please include your name so I can add to the back of the shirt I'll be wearing. www.justgiving.co.uk/andycallus or text "EMIJ91 £2 [name]" to 70070 Once again, the very best of luck and see you on the other side..........

God luck Andy and Lisa and anyone else. Spare a thought for me when you finish as I'll be nearer five hours which is about my limit these days. Weather looks a bit wet for the afternoon so I'm expecting to get soaked. All in a good cause though and hopefully crowds will still turn out.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 21 April 2012 Posted 21 April 2012 I reckon I'll be 4 1/2 hours so I'll probably get a bit of a shower too, just getting ready to leave for the train... so excited I could shit. The adrenaline has been pumping since yesterday!! Best of luck reynard
Guest Posted 21 April 2012 Posted 21 April 2012 Running? Why? If we were supposed to run why did God invent the car?
FoxesAreBlue Posted 22 April 2012 Posted 22 April 2012 Unofficial Time on my stopwatch was 3:57:52 so JUST under my original target of 4hrs so MASSIVELY proud of myself. I also passed Iwan Thomas who was walking towards the end too, I wished him luck but was thrilled to beat him!
Guest Posted 22 April 2012 Posted 22 April 2012 Well done Andy!! Thanks for the best wishes; sadly, I did not make my target time, but I did beat Ian Stringer, and got a new PB. I was determined to finish the race, and am pleased that I did. I would like to state quite categorically, that I will never, ever, run this distance again.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 22 April 2012 Posted 22 April 2012 Lisa why not!!! Well done by the way, I was looking out for stringer but it was not to be, fair play to him though because I should imagine it wasn't his idea to do it and his twitter says he raised £17.5k so can't fault the guy. Glad you got the PB - what was it? Can't remember if I put my time above so mine was 3:57:45 (the official time, my watch said 3:57:52). My knees are in bits though tonight and my feet are throbbing, I have also just had my first beer since New Years Day and first Curry for months too! So all in all a good day!!!

Afraid I managed to crawl in in 5.24 which I wasn't too happy about but glad to just finish after suffering really bad blisters from mile 16 onwards. Still at least I beat Ed Balls!!. It brings everything into perspective when someone dies within touching distance of the finish. Someone said she was from Leicestershire.
James. Posted 23 April 2012 Author Posted 23 April 2012 Well done both all of you. Watched it for hours yesterday morning, properly inspiring. Might apply next year as I'm enjoying running more than ever at the minute.
Guest Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 Well done to Reynard too! I finished in 4:16, having had to walk/jog the last 6 miles. I was devastated at the time. I had a nosebleed at 15 miles, and never really recovered from having to slow down to stop it. I completely lost my rhythm, and then had painful stitches on both sides from 20 miles on, which was the killer blow. I was gutted, as I was on for a 4hr finish at that point. Did you guys end up with annoying tan lines? The backs of my upper arms are going to be brown, and my right arm will have a ridiculous white line where my iPhone case strap went!
FoxesAreBlue Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 Yeah I got sock tan lines!!!! I don't run with music in the big races, I love the atmos too much!! All the cockneys yelling "C'mon Ayyyyndy!!!"
Guest Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 I wasn't listening to music, I was using the Nike+ app to record my route, times etc! Besides, MP3 players are supposed to be banned...
Greg2607 Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 I've got my first 1/2 marathon coming up in the next couple of weeks an unfortunately had to take 3/4 weeks off due to an achilles issue (upped my mileage too quickly. stupid i know!!). I'm tossing up whether to do the run or not at the minute, I've managed 10 miles in training last weekend (which was my first run back) so I THINK i could get around, but I think i've pretty much blown the chance of getting under 2 hrs. For the more seasoned runners out there, I do ALOT of my running off road / trail. will I need to be careful around my pacing when I transition to the road? I've found that i'm typically about a minute per mile quicker on the road than the trail and i'm worried about burning off my glycogen stores too early!
Guest Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 Trail running uses more energy/effort due to the instability of the terrain. You shouldn't be surprised if you're running quicker on roads/paths! How do you feel after your runs? Do you feel more fatigued? Are you taking on board anything whilst you run, gels, drinks etc? Tbh, until you've tried it, you'll never know. I managed 13.1 miles comfortably on a mouthful of water, yet my husband needed an energy drink. Everyone is different, so what works for one runner will not work for another.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 For my first Half and Full marathons my first target is ALWAYS to finish the race having enjoyed it. If you haven't enjoyed it then seriously, what's the point? I do have time targets, luckily I have hit them but in other race distances (5k & 10k) I haven't quite got the times I want yet, so what?! There are other races to get them! You have ran 10 miles!!! I assure you that this a a massive achievement, that not many of your mates could do, and if you can do that off your own back in training then you can run a 1/2 Mara, the adrenaline that only a race brings will get you through and you will be sat on the finish line wondering what the fvck all the worrying was about. Just be sure to fuel yourself correctly in the days before hand too... To Lisa, would you be so kind as to let me see your splits? You don't have to if you don't want to, I just have a passing interest... And thank you raj. One thing in the aftermath of Sundays days race, apart from HORRIFFIC DOMS yesterday and today. Was the adulations from my friends, colleagues and family... It won't last, but it's nice whilst it does and the medal that I have shown to all of my generous sponsors at the gym and my mates has been a source of genuine interest and pride. Im rambling on but fvck it I'm tired... I have had no rest Since Sunday with two 14 hour days on my feet at the gym, I'm gonna hit the hay in a minute and probably sleep until next week! My last word is that this time two years ago I would have scoffed at the very idea of running 5k let alone a marathon. I always wanted a London Marathon Medal but always thought it was never to be. Circumstances and chance and a bit of dertermination and hard work gave me the opportunity to fulfill that dream and having hang there on my wardrobe is up there wih one of my proudest achievements. It's not like buying an expensive item where the thill is instantly gone and you almost get buyers remorse. I can't stop looking at it, holding it, and showing it off. It was earnt through literally my own blood and sweat and, for once, I'm fvcking proud of myself.... Right, I'm sure if your still reading this shit then you've probably had enough.... Innabit

That's a really great time Lisa. I'm really jealous of you guys as I know I couldn't go that quick without doing myself serious damage. I have a rather nice red ring around the lower half of my neck. Sorry to read you don't think you will do another as you are obviously a very good runner. That was my fourth and I still think I have some unfinished business with the distance.
