Ozwin Posted 24 September 2010 Posted 24 September 2010 Go the 'Leicester Running Shop' in Clarendon Park. I was there for 3 hours and tried on about 15 pairs of shoes. They do a 'gait analysis' at no charge and get you the perfect shoe for your running style. What are the prices like? And can I not find our my running style via the interweb? I don't want to spend loads on a pair of trainers, not yet anyway. On a side not does anyone use Adidas' miCoach? It's free and looks pretty nifty, you can get a pacer and heart rate monitor for it which makes it more in depth but yeah, it's pretty nifty.

Bellend Sebastian Posted 25 September 2010 Posted 25 September 2010 I spent a king's ransom (well £80) on some new shoes today. But by lucky chance I got my dislocated toe put back in, so I it was a particularly fruitful trip to ye olde running shoppe. That doesn't happen when I go to Morrisons
Jordan Posted 23 October 2010 Posted 23 October 2010 10k in 47:00 today; distinctively mediocre, but I suppose that's what happens when 1) the course had a few murderous hills 2) my "training" over the past few weeks (if you could call it that) was geared more for Saturday night in the town than Saturday morning on the roads. I was stuck in a hotel for two weeks in a not-so-runner-friendly area but for some reason I can't stand getting on a treadmill and 3) the two big new blisters on my left foot gave me not-so-subtle reminders during and after the race that I need a new pair of sneakers. Despite the "meh" time, it was still a good morning and a fun race. I do enjoy running in road races and was especially happy that this one started and finished within a 10-15 minute walk from my place. This year I've certainly found out that while I can build up my endurance fairly quickly, I'm not training very smartly. I'm not getting any faster just going on long runs so I've got to mix up my training/fitness runs with more speed work. 5 mile race coming up on Thanksgiving--I'll try not to suck. I'd like to do a half-marathon just across town at the end of March--running in the winter over here is a pain in the ass so I'll have to figure out ways to trick myself to stay motivated and not be a little bitch just because it's a little chilly outside and there's a foot of snow on the ground... there, that's a good start.
FoxyPV Posted 23 October 2010 Posted 23 October 2010 Jordan -I hate treadmills too so I go flat out for 2 - 3 mins and then jog for a minute and then repeat until I complete my required distance. It breaks it up a wee bit as you have to manually change your speeds on the treadmills in my gym. It will help your overall fitness whilst increasing your sprint. Good luck with the 5 mile race though.
Head Honcho Posted 17 January 2012 Posted 17 January 2012 After a 25 year hiatus I am back on the running trail. When I say I am unfit I really do mean unfit. Even in the days when I played footie and did a lot of circuits although I never had any weight on me I just never really had the lungs! So I am going back to basics. Today I just did a minutes run and 2 minutes walk repeated 6 times. Will do the same on Thursday and on Sunday I will repeat it 10 times. My target is either the Bristol 5K run on March 11th or the Knoll run on March 18th. In 1986 i remember doing 10k in 41 minutes with absolutely no training at all, so that will be my target time for the 10K I will attempt in mid May which could be the great Manchester run. I was 2st lighter then too and I am currently just under 14st so will try and get down to 12st for this.
Samilktray Posted 17 January 2012 Posted 17 January 2012 Finding the motivation to go for a jog is literally impossible for me. Which really puts a spanner in the works of my new years resolution.

FoxesAreBlue Posted 19 January 2012 Posted 19 January 2012 Why not try Braunstone Parkrun?? I use it sometimes for my marathon training - its free, every Saturday and it's a timed race too. All you need to do is sign up and print off a barcode they generate for you and your in! Run as often as you like http://www.parkrun.org.uk/braunstone/home
Alexikokopops Posted 19 January 2012 Posted 19 January 2012 I'm currently planning to go for a run before work tomorrow. I blame you for this entirely!

FoxesAreBlue Posted 19 January 2012 Posted 19 January 2012 That looks goods-unfortunately I live in South Wales so think I'll give it a miss Ahh - fair point, that said they are all over the country (actually even all over the world now) and they all follow the same format, try the main website Www.parkrun.org.uk To see if there are any near you.

Oh nice one there's two near me. Unfortunately I work 2 sats in 3 and usually watching City on the one I have off. I'm gonna do the Bristol 5K in March so this would have been ideal for me.

They give you a time and publish them on the website and email you your PB's and everything you can even set up a text message results service which is usually quicker too... All of this is free too! I guarantee if you try it out a couple of times you will look forward tithe days when you ain't working or visiting the boys in blue (hello summer!) I don't work for parkrun but I am a personal trainer and run long distance races too so encouraging people into this sort of thing really is my bag! So I've heard your excuses, I'm ignoring them and telling you to stop putting barriers in your way an GO RUN!!
danny. Posted 20 January 2012 Posted 20 January 2012 Parkrun is amazing esp for a free race! Bit early but well worth doing if you can get up. Braunstone park is really nice that time in the day too.

Braunstone park is really nice that time in the day too. Tis' difficult to get up that early on a sat but everyone who I have bullied into doing it has always moaned like shit before the run and really enjoyed it after. They also say it feels good knowing that they have the whole day ahead of them and they ain't just lying in bed doing nothing like they usually would and wasting time just waitin to go out on the lash later on. Dont get me wrong. Nothing wrong with all of the above, but doing the run does make a great change to the same old routine
Vacamion Posted 21 January 2012 Posted 21 January 2012 Parkrun is great! I started running it in October last year. You know you've had too good a Friday night when you are several minutes behind your PB on the Saturday morninng...
FoxesAreBlue Posted 21 January 2012 Posted 21 January 2012 Did it today and think I set a new PB 20:16 - had a good couple of personal battles throughout- tried a sprint finish agains a bloke 20m in front of me but he heared me coming and I was just behind him (I'll do him next week early doors). I try to start in the middle of the group and overtake as many people as possible - if someone overtakes me then they can **** off cos I will give EVERYTHING to get that place back. Today was supposed to be an easy run to train for London Marathon (me and my mate were gonna run it twice) but I get way to competitive and chase PBs. If my legs wernt ruined from gym this week I think I could have beaten 20mins -- ahh well try again next week I suppose!

Haha that was me mate! I was knackered today (heavy week too), had already lost about 5 places in the last 1/2 a mile, heard you behind me and thought I can't lose another, next week it is!
FoxesAreBlue Posted 21 January 2012 Posted 21 January 2012 small world ain't it, I ran with an iPod for the first time so although I knew I was making a load of noise I was probably louder than I thought - bit gutted I've given my gameplan away though. Time for a re-think...
danny. Posted 21 January 2012 Posted 21 January 2012 I only heard your breathing and footsteps, was very close!
