Fez of Mahrez Posted 28 September 2008 Posted 28 September 2008 What are the shorthand and legal books? I might be interested (thinking of a media oriented Immigration law project, and I want to learn shorthand as I think this would be useful for making notes in a court room). McNae's Essential Law for Journalists - 19th Edition (2007) A couple of Teeline Shorthand books too.
Guest Posted 28 September 2008 Posted 28 September 2008 McNae's Essential Law for Journalists - 19th Edition (2007)A couple of Teeline Shorthand books too. If Joe's not interested, let me know how much you want for them. I'll take them off of your hands.
Joe. Posted 28 September 2008 Posted 28 September 2008 Thanks for the offers Fez, but I'm not sure I'm looking to get anything like that just yet. Looks like you've already got interest from Lisa anyway! As for the Foxes Online stuff, it's something I'm definitely interested in. I'll speak to Scoweh about it soon and hopefulyl get involved.

Joe. Posted 28 September 2008 Posted 28 September 2008 I'm only interested if you're not! In a super-sub kinda way. Go for them Lisa, I'm sure you'd use them more than me at this stage! I'm not sure I need that sort of thing just yet...

You might find some of it useful reference for when you attend your open days, and give you some good questions to ask. It might also help you in deciding on what type of course to do. As an aside, I am now looking at open days for my post-grad studies. Bloody Nottingham choosing a frigging Satdeh. Looks like I am going to have to charm my way into an alternative visiting day.....

Guest Posted 28 September 2008 Posted 28 September 2008 Pffft.... I have three Saturday ones! Every single Uni open day I went to (when I was in 6th form) was during the week, and meant a pass out of college for the day. I investigated quite a lot of higher education institutions that year. This is probably one of the reasons I did so badly in my exams.
Tommy G Posted 29 September 2008 Posted 29 September 2008 I don't know much about Uni's but my girlfriend want's to study Law. Nottingham Trent is her first choice but she's looking at others to make up the list you have to submit to UCAS (I think). Anyone on here studied Law, and which uni's did you consider? She's looking to get ABB or BBB if that helps because I know the top ones all ask for AAA. Cheers
Uncle Albert Posted 29 September 2008 Posted 29 September 2008 Just had to inform my Tutor my 5 picks I want to choose, could only give him 4. Ones I am choosing to write to our... Liverpool John Moores Sheffield Hallam Lincoln Manchester Met
lcfc_jme Posted 29 September 2008 Posted 29 September 2008 Just had to inform my Tutor my 5 picks I want to choose, could only give him 4. Ones I am choosing to write to our... Liverpool John Moores Sheffield Hallam Lincoln Manchester Met Liverpool JM is meant to be pretty good, got a couple of mates there and they're already having a quality time. Was gona apply there myself but wasn't sure I could stomach 3 years of the Scouse accent, to be fair. Sheff Hallam impressed me quite a bit when I went there, even though people are quick to play it down and be slightly insulting about it. Offer a top quality law course with opportunities to study and work abroad in a wide range of countries for a year.. Seems to have a real friendly vibe about it as well, I'll be making many trips there over the coming year methinks. Again, got a few mates there, they're loving it and they've found a place that does pints for 60 pence. Bargain! Can't say I was too impressed by Manchester Met though, pal. Had heard big things about Manchester in general so maybe I was expecting more from it than I should have been, but it just didn't seem like a place I was gona enjoy studying and living for 3 years. Guess it's each to their own, though.. You been round there yet? What you looking to study, la? (sorry if it's been posted, just haven't read much of the thread really.. )

Leisure management at LJMU. The scouse accent is one of the things tempting me to go there, a bird with a scouse accent cant go wrong. And I have got family in L'pool so if I get abit lonely up there I have them there. A mate is also keen on JMU and my best mate is going to the main Uni in Scouseland. Ched shown me a course he was looking at, at Hallam and that course appeals to me aswell and fits in with all my courses I am doing at the minute. I want to go somewhere which is far away but is only a train away and Hallam fits that bill perfectly. Going open day to Hallam on Sunday and LJMU on Monday. Cant wait.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Scouse accent (well, on lasses anyhow) in short doses, but if I had to hear it most days for 3 years I'd probably shoot myself. Ahh right the whole family thing up there is a bit of a bonus for you then, would have been the complete opposite for me 'cos but for a few mates I'd have nobody out there and it's not the simplest or quickest of places to get back from. It's a good shout though you'd like it a lot if you went there. Have to say that course Ched showed you (if it's the same one he showed me) sounds pretty ****in' good really. Think if I'd have seen it and hadn't made my mind up long before going to uni, I'd have been very tempted to do it myself. Hallam has quite a large contingent of Leicester fans at the minute as well, which is an added bonus I guess. And, I'm reliably informed, many good looking females (even potter, the fence sitting expert, has said they're good looking - usually a sure fire indication). Dunno, I suppose it comes down to your own impressions of the place.. It's one thing going somewhere that offers your course and has a good reputation, but you've gota think about whether you'll enjoy living there as well seeing as I'm guessing you'll be living in halls as well. Good luck with it all anyway.
Simi Posted 29 September 2008 Posted 29 September 2008 FAO Loft. Sunday? Hallam? How you getting there?

Yea I think I am going to go to the place that is best for me living around. Because if Liverpool had a place like Mezzina in Lincoln then I would be there like a shot.

Not really sure what the nightlife is like in Libpool, only thing I've heard about from a lass I know up there is there's an indie bar which she's gona drag me to when I go see her. Could possibly let you know more after I've been, it should be in the next few weeks.

Im not always abusive if I didnt play for Aths then I wouldnt give a shite but... If you play for someone and someone previously said you would fail then you would bite back. Anyways... Uni I cannot wait.
Simi Posted 20 October 2008 Posted 20 October 2008 Went to Hallam yesterday and was quite impressed with it all, setting is decent and the people seem sound enough.
cisono Posted 20 October 2008 Posted 20 October 2008 I taught two hours at University last week (second week running). While the first week the students were "healthy" (*), last week they were all coughing non-stop. Today, I woke up feeling a bit rough (and no, no drinking was involved) I have decided to blame the students! * = I am excluding posture and lack of voice (at least, they never answered a single question) from my evaluation here

Im looking at Hallam as well mate, need to get up and have a look to be honest. I think the open days have finished now, but Im sure I could get shown round by someone.
cisono Posted 20 October 2008 Posted 20 October 2008 You've caught Fresher's Flu! But I am no Fresher
Alexikokopops Posted 20 October 2008 Posted 20 October 2008 But I am no Fresher Yeah, but you associated with Uni students early(ish) in the term, it's a risk you face.
Vardinhio Posted 20 October 2008 Posted 20 October 2008 Back at Uni now, 4th and final year but after working full time for over 12months on placement I'm finding it so hard to motivate myself back at uni. Anyone feel the same?
cisono Posted 20 October 2008 Posted 20 October 2008 Yeah, but you associated with Uni students early(ish) in the term, it's a risk you face. I was just kidding What annoys me is that I knew the students and their bugs would be a bit of a challenge to my immune system last week but I was in a hurry, so forgot to take my vitamin C and echinacea. Darn...
