SemperEadem Posted 19 January 2010 Posted 19 January 2010 Cheers for all the help guys, the course is called: Sport, culture and society. Its at the collegiate campus. Loved the uni when i went to the open day and found Sheffield to be a really nice place. Hopefully get to go to away games with fellow city fans that live in Sheffield.

Talk to me any other night and i'll say its top doller, but I have an exam tomorrow and have just suffered a small set back on an assignment, so currently hate it! Seriously though good course, lots of like minded people on it. Theres plenty of us up here, believe it or not.

Guest DavidJCW Posted 19 January 2010 Posted 19 January 2010 I'm in my last term of my final year of Uni... the time has just FLOWN by. I can't believe that come this summer, I'll be out there looking for a full time job!!! Scary times.
Benji Posted 19 January 2010 Posted 19 January 2010 Last May I couldn't wait to finish uni, to not have exams and to have cash coming in. Less than a year later, and I can't fking wait to start law school, never thought I'd hear myself say that. Make the most of uni boys and girls, it really can be the best days of your life. Not being in and amongst it in London anymore is really depressing as my graduation reminded me last week. Novotel didn't know what had hit them at 4am when I was giving the place a new paint job.
SemperEadem Posted 19 January 2010 Posted 19 January 2010 Just a quick question, did you guys apply for your accommodation direct to them or did you do it through the uni?
David Guiza Posted 21 January 2010 Posted 21 January 2010 Had 2 conditional offers for Wolverhampton and Coventry to study law but still not heard back from the final 3 .
C-man Posted 21 January 2010 Posted 21 January 2010 Just a quick question, did you guys apply for your accommodation direct to them or did you do it through the uni? Through the University
Guest DavidJCW Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 I applied through the University for the first year and then for the following two years through the accommodation itself.
lcfcadam Posted 2 September 2010 Posted 2 September 2010 So given that it's now less than 2 weeks for some people before they go off on their own for the first time to new and scary places, thought I'd resurrect this for some Uni-related discussion. Where people going? What people doing? Nervous, excited etc For me it's University of Manchester doing American & Latin American Studies (basically Spanish with a South American twist). Staying in the apparent "brilliant shithole" that is Oak House in Fallowfield. Looking forward to it but so much stuff is such a pain the arse to sort out! And I'm almost certainly gonna run out of money within about 3 minutes of getting there...
Joe. Posted 2 September 2010 Posted 2 September 2010 I'll never understand people who actually stay in Leicester to go to university...

You'll like Manchester though, if you can put up with the Mancs and thr rain. 26 now, 8 years since I went to Uni, still fancy going back to turn the old HND into a degree and have one more year of destruction.
lcfcadam Posted 2 September 2010 Posted 2 September 2010 Derby <_< I'll never understand people who actually stay in Leicester to go to university... I guess for some people the academic side of uni must actually have some importance, so much so they're willing to miss out on the opportunity to go away and become individual in order to avoid having to leave home. Me, I've been well looking forward to going off on my own for ages. Didn't really matter where, as long as getting pissed with lots of other similarly dedicated drunkards wouldn't be a problem...
Fosse Boy Posted 2 September 2010 Posted 2 September 2010 I'll never understand people who actually stay in Leicester to go to university... It all depends on a lot of things. Personally at the age of eighteen I was more than happy to get out of home, get out of Harborough and do something different. If you like a course at somewhere local though there's no reason why you shouldn't stay local. Three years later I'm back in the area and have found the perfect postgraduate course for me is just up the road at De Montfort. Obviously at postgrad it's a bit different in that you're not "doing uni" for the experiences (well, getting plastered four or five nights a week for as long as you can afford), but if someone's about to start at undergrad level and is weighing up the value of their course versus the value of living somewhere else, having the "experiences" etc. and come up in favour of staying local coz it's the right course for them, then it's probably the right decision. Horses for courses though.
Collier Posted 2 September 2010 Posted 2 September 2010 There's nothing to Fallowfield apart from the odd tower block, even if I've grown to love it's quaintness over the past three years. Oak House / Owens Park are an eyesore but you're a stones throw away from the city centre really. The uni is pretty special as well.

Well your definatly coming to the right area of that country for that anyway Linky Link
AoWW Posted 2 September 2010 Posted 2 September 2010 Enjoy your dealings with the b*stards that are the Student Loans Company.
SemperEadem Posted 2 September 2010 Posted 2 September 2010 Enjoy your dealings with the b*stards that are the Student Loans Company. They are awful, had many a stressful phone conversation with them. Sheffield Hallam on the 18th for me
h1210 Posted 2 September 2010 Posted 2 September 2010 I'll never understand people who actually stay in Leicester to go to university... I went back to do a Masters at Leicester and never thought it was that weird but I guess that's different. I know loads of people who went to Leicester or 'The Poly' from Leicester, often for cash reasons, stayed at home for the first year and moved into town for the second. Each to their own I suppose.
