Katy Posted 17 April 2009 Posted 17 April 2009 I love my Uni, it's ace. Not loving this essay I need to hand in next week though, the subject is really interesting but I just can't be arsed to do it at the moment. My head is full of football at the moment. Good luck to everyone applying and well done to people getting accepted. If anyone wants to join me at the University of Lincoln I will make you very welcome

Help! Open University? Quote from Wiki: The Open University (commonly Open University or OU, but officially the is part of its name) is the UK's distance learning government-supported university notable for having an open entry policy, i.e. students' previous academic achievements are not taken into account for entry to most undergraduate courses

And the older that you are, the less critical are your previous exam results, even at places like DMU. Mature students are viewed in a totally different light. Do check with the university, as for some degrees you may have to do a foundation course first.
Sods Posted 17 April 2009 Posted 17 April 2009 Nice one! I am in my final year though so I won't be around next year (hopefully!) What you studying? Business Management, whats Aston like?

Help! What Lisa and Alex said. Universities love 'mature' students, sadly this is where you fail
lou Posted 17 April 2009 Posted 17 April 2009 What he says. And the older that you are, the less critical are your previous exam results, even at places like DMU. Mature students are viewed in a totally different light. Do check with the university, as for some degrees you may have to do a foundation course first. I had 5 o levels and did an ACCESS course to get into Uni to do a degree in Mental Health Nursing... Like others have said they LOVE mature students.
Daggers Posted 17 April 2009 Posted 17 April 2009 Universities love 'mature' students, Aston doesn't/didn't - it is wholly unable to deal with and cater for the different range of needs that mature students bring. I think it comes down to the institution concerned as I found Sunderland, DMU, TCNJ and the OU to be great.
Hitesh Posted 17 April 2009 Posted 17 April 2009 Business Management, whats Aston like? Its awesome for the fact its close to everything. If you are on campus first year then it will be good coz all the other residential blocks are close together! And its good walking distance form city centre which is always a +. The Guild is poor at the moment but my mate is going to be Guild President next year so things will improve! If any guy can do it then its him! So look out for some top guild events next year - I shall be returning for these! As for the course I wouldn't know too much as i do Comp Science but the business school is impressive so doubt there are many problems there! Let me know if you need to find out any more info etc!
Tommeh Posted 17 May 2009 Posted 17 May 2009 FOA anyone, still waiting for my finance to be approved should I just send off my accomodation applications asap without the final confirmation as demand may be high on my favoured places? Thanks.

Thanks. I would, the unis are usually pretty flexiable with paying rent fees if you just tell them your waiting for your loan still
StanSP Posted 18 May 2009 Posted 18 May 2009 Last learning day of my first year today. YESSSSSS. What uni you at?
welck12 Posted 18 May 2009 Posted 18 May 2009 Last learning day of my first year today. YESSSSSS. The next 2 years are just going to fly by. I miss uni...
SemperEadem Posted 19 January 2010 Posted 19 January 2010 Just accepted an offer at Sheffield hallam, I just wanted to know from anyone who is there where are good places to live?
C-man Posted 19 January 2010 Posted 19 January 2010 Tommeh goes there and lives at Bramall Court I think. Decent accomodation but his flatmates are rumoured to be ******. I had a few mates who lived at Leadmill Point and they loved that.

C-man Posted 19 January 2010 Posted 19 January 2010 Thanks mate, have you heard anything about the forge or Victoria hall? No idea about the Forge, think it must be near the train station though. Pretty sure Victoria Hall is shared between Hallam and the Uni of. I'm sure someone off my course lived there last year... I may even have been there once. Not certain it's the same place though. If it is, it's averagely standard.

Stuliasz Posted 19 January 2010 Posted 19 January 2010 Just accepted an offer at Sheffield hallam, I just wanted to know from anyone who is there where are good places to live? There's quite a few decent places on Collegiate Crescent off Ecclesall Road. Also some Hallam Uni buildings there so don't know whether that will allow you to roll out of bed into your lectures depending on where they are. I went to the Sheff Uni rather than Hallam though so can't really comment on too many more areas around there, lived on Ecclesall Road in the first year though and loved it.
filbertway Posted 19 January 2010 Posted 19 January 2010 Go to the forge mate, my course mate goes there and it's hella lively! Loads of people as well, you would be unlucky to be stuck with aload of bores
Tommeh Posted 19 January 2010 Posted 19 January 2010 Thanks mate, have you heard anything about the forge or Victoria hall? Forge is opposite me, great big fu.ck off place, think it's 1300 rooms or something daft...Stayed there twice and have a few mates there, seems a pretty happening gaff. What course you studying by the way? If its sport then the Forge, Trigon or where I am (Bramall) are wise pick's. If your up at the train station where many halls are, lectures are a good 40 minute walk. All other courses then Leadmill point, Archways and Exchange works are best. You'll soon realise when you get there West Street is the place to be most nights, certainly to start. To say me and C-Man have the prime spot for next year is an understatment. Good choice for uni mate, you'll love it.

Hitting Wellens centre later, you down? or you getting mashed on a bottle of Baileys, £5 and Plug like usual?
