SamL Posted 1 June 2008 Posted 1 June 2008 I thought Andy Murray liked clay?? He prefers grass courts supposedly.
shen Posted 1 June 2008 Posted 1 June 2008 Enough talk about Murray. It's all about the brilliant Federer, Nadal and Gulbis in this tournament. What a player that young Latvian is...!!!
Lovejoy Posted 1 June 2008 Posted 1 June 2008 What the hell is Murray on about when he says he has a chance of winning wimbledon this year ? He has potential maybe to reach the quarters if the draw is favourable, but compared to the likes of Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Hewitt, Roddick, Ancic etc, he hasn't a chance.
Manwell Pablo Posted 1 June 2008 Posted 1 June 2008 Don't think so. He prefers grass courts supposedly. I swear he said in an interview (abliet this was about 3 years ago) that Clay was his best surface.
Number 6 Posted 2 June 2008 Posted 2 June 2008 I swear he said in an interview (abliet this was about 3 years ago) that Clay was his best surface. I think he was bought up playing on the clay courts in Spain.
shen Posted 2 June 2008 Posted 2 June 2008 Wikipedia: "Murray is manly a grass player.""Almost all of his ATP tour results came on hard and grass courts, though he has claimed to prefer clay courts, a liking tied to his training in Barcelona as a junior" And yes, it does say that Murray is "manly"
Manwell Pablo Posted 2 June 2008 Posted 2 June 2008 Knew he had said that at somepoint. I admit I found it stange he's never stood out on clay.
Number 6 Posted 5 June 2008 Posted 5 June 2008 Into the Semis!!!Got Federer though, ouch. Not the force he has been in recent years though. It's the first year for a few that we can say Federer is beatable.
shen Posted 5 June 2008 Posted 5 June 2008 Not the force he has been in recent years though. It's the first year for a few that we can say Federer is beatable. He's still beating great players on their best, and his worst, surface. He's into the semis (again!) and will likely go to the final. He's still the same force as always, but Nadal and especially Djokovic are nearing his level.
FilboFox Posted 5 June 2008 Posted 5 June 2008 Beauty vs Beast in the women's final... Ivanovic is hot... Safina is not. As for the mens, I want to see Monfils win it cause he's a breath of fresh air and a real crowd pleaser... Murray should take a leaf out of his book!!! Federer pisses me off... the word arrogant was invented for him so I definitely want him to lose and I think that Djokovic is heading that way too so I want Nadal to get through in a Nadal vs Monfils final. That said, it'll turn out to be a Federer vs Djokovic final cause at the moment, all the players I want to win seem to lose... but the semi's should be good tennis viewing nonetheless.

He's still the same force as always, but Nadal and especially Djokovic are nearing his level. The players he has played so far have not been 'great'. He's played clay court specialists but they are not at his level in terms of tennis-ing ability and therefore have lost BUT some of them came close which can't really be said of players like Nadal (granted its his favourite surface but still) and Djokovic who have been very much on form in this years tournaments on clay. Federer has been caught and it looks like he may have even been surpassed now by Djokovic and I think that Nadal may too have surpassed him and Sampras' record is very much safe at the moment. Federer HAS to win this French Open or I don't think that he will pass Pistol Pete's record... he may equal it, but I'm not sure he'll beat it.
FilboFox Posted 5 June 2008 Posted 5 June 2008 Why? WHY!?! Are you seriously asking that question!?! He is so full of himself it's unreal! He ponces about on court like he owns the place and shows absolutely no emotion at all as if he expects it all to happen for him and if it doesn't, its a great injustice. He's sacked great coaches just because he lost a few matches which is really him looking for excuses because of course it isn't his fault is it!!! Pathetic. Then you have the ultimate in arrogance at Wimbledon where he comes onto court with a golden rimmed bag and a logo on a jacket depicting his trophies he's won and the big letter F... I mean for God's sake... if that isn't having your own head stuck up your arse then I don't know what is. He is arrogant and completely self absorbed which is why, for me at least but I'm sure many others think the same, I just want to see him lose so I don't have to put up with him any more... people like Nadal and Monfils are really great to watch because they show so much determination on and off court and don't waltz onto court almost knowing they are going to win... they show the opposition respect. Federer had a quote from his last match interview which said something along the lines of "I totally dominated him at times"... do I need to say any more!?! Who else would say that... most other players would just say that they played well and are happy to be through but nooooo, Federer has to go overboard and big himself up... I really hate Federer as much as I hate Mourinho... both are just arrogant twats who need a damn good slapping by losing badly so that they aren't quite so 'Special'...

And how does saying 'I totally domnated him at times' suggest arrogance?
Manwell Pablo Posted 5 June 2008 Posted 5 June 2008 I dunno, I'd say Federer isn't arrogant, he just knows how good he is. Although Gael Monfills has been around for awhile and he is a legend. Always top quality entertainment.

Federer HAS to win this French Open or I don't think that he will pass Pistol Pete's record... he may equal it, but I'm not sure he'll beat it. Gonzalez beat him earlier this year on clay, and in my own opinion, the second best playing at the French Open this year after Nadal. And on clay he IS a great player. And do you seriously believe Federer will win no more than 2 more Grand Slam titles in his remaining career??... You seem to forget that Federer is to Wimbledon what Nadal is to Roland Garros.
Lovejoy Posted 6 June 2008 Posted 6 June 2008 I dunno, I'd say Federer isn't arrogant, he just knows how good he is.Although Gael Monfills has been around for awhile and he is a legend. Always top quality entertainment. I met Federer when I went to Wimbledon a couple of years ago and tbh he was a really nice, laid back, friendly sort of guy who just seemed to be enjoying himself. I met quite a few other players there as well and the majority of them seemed to think they were God's gift to tennis, and most of them had done nothing of note to warrant this attitude. However the greatest legend in tennis is Leyton Hewitt! He was a proper joker and was signing autographs etc. quite happily, and having a joke about the English/Australan rivalry, with us.
shen Posted 6 June 2008 Posted 6 June 2008 *Federer rant* I completely fail to see how others like Nadal and Djokovic are much different. Federer is just a born winner, and he's the best, hands down. The fact he keeps winning titles and manages to motivate himself, despite having won everything bar Roland Garros and the Davis Cup, is nothing short of amazing.

Lovejoy Posted 6 June 2008 Posted 6 June 2008 Nononononono.... Nobody can take that label away from Big Goran I meant currently. Otherwise Johnny Mac would be handsdown . Looks like Nadal in the final then.

Nadal is the arrogant one. And how are Federer and Djokovic arrogant?? BTW. Come on Ivanovic!
