SamL Posted 5 June 2008 Posted 5 June 2008 I think its more to do with players being out of form with the bat. I can see what you mean but what are Strauss and Vaughan's excuses then? They've been in great form. I think there may be some changes in the batting line up for the series against South Africa.

I think there may be some changes in the batting line up for the series against South Africa. What ? Obviously if there in form and out they have made a mistake or got a good ball, Its that simple. Staruss is in decent form but Vaughan had he not made a hundred would be in the same bracket as the rest so hardly in form.
CKB Posted 5 June 2008 Posted 5 June 2008 Bell and Collingwood are shockingly outta form, yes we know they are good batsmen but how long can the selectors ignore the form they are in? ESPECIALLY Collingwood, watching him in the last test 2nd innings was painful! I think if they don't come into form ahead of the South African series we may have to look elsewhere! Collingwood is looking awful against average bowlers, South Africans could kill his career if he doesn't get back to form!
Fox You Forest Posted 5 June 2008 Posted 5 June 2008 I think they will drop Bell cant see it being Collingwood as he's one day captain. Anyway there is another innings to go yet they may turn it around.

My original point was that I think a few of them thought the series was in the bag and underestimated New Zealand and ended up making silly mistakes. Apart from Vaughan's hundred, he hasn't been in the greatest form no but due to the hundred, I don't think he will be dropped any time soon. For me, Collingwood or Bell will be the first to be dropped. Whereas the Wicket Keeping position is still up for debate.

Vaughan is the current Test Captain but he's not getting a look in on the One Day format so Collingwood being One Day captain is irrelevant.

Collingwood could be dropped but still play in the one dayers, it might help him? but what i heard he's stuggling with his shoulder and really needs an op, surely it would be best for him to get it sorted and comeback when fit and ready? I think the way he's being handled at the moment could really hurt his international career, we have people who can come in for him! Bell i think will be ok, but Collingwood is the one i worry about the most
CKB Posted 5 June 2008 Posted 5 June 2008 Whereas the Wicket Keeping position is still up for debate. Yup totally! We have all these wicket keepers who come in do OK for abit then just get shown up and shown they ain't that great or don't cut it at international level! Reid, Jones and POSSIBLY now Ambrose! I wonder if Pietersen fancies becoming a wicket keeper?
SamL Posted 5 June 2008 Posted 5 June 2008 Very good 50 by Pietersen, I just hope he can convert it into a hundred.

Making silly mistakes is a sign of being out of form or underestimating NZ could go round in circles as to which. Starting to look up a little now though.
SamL Posted 5 June 2008 Posted 5 June 2008 Great play by Pietersen and Ambrose. We are 228-5. Earlier I said that if we managed to get to around 200 we could maybe salvage something from this match but it's turning out to be a half decent score.
SamL Posted 5 June 2008 Posted 5 June 2008 New ball has done for Pietersen. Bowled O'Brian, caught Hopkins. Shame really, he was set for a huge score. He played extremely well though and it's nice to see him get a hundred under his belt. Into the tail now, Broad and Ambrose at the crease.
CKB Posted 6 June 2008 Posted 6 June 2008 86-5 and close of play 277-7 i think? i'll take that, hopefully the tail can wag and knock us up to 350! Great innings from Pietersen, good stuff from Ambrose aswell! (jury still out on him i'm afraid tho)

Fox You Forest Posted 6 June 2008 Posted 6 June 2008 Looking a very good score now from the position they were in.
Manwell Pablo Posted 6 June 2008 Posted 6 June 2008 Looking a very good score now from the position they were in. Yeah gives us a good platform. Considering what could of been.
Uncle Albert Posted 6 June 2008 Posted 6 June 2008 I can see England winning hopefully, got a feeling England will bowl the Kiwi's out pretty cheaply. Who else are England playing this summer?

Fox You Forest Posted 6 June 2008 Posted 6 June 2008 How did Broad do ?I seen he was on 49 no Still is it's lunch.
Daggers Posted 6 June 2008 Posted 6 June 2008 How did Broad do ?I seen he was on 49 no 57 n.o. with 354-8 He is giving a superbly confident performance and, considering what I watched at the beginning of the day's play yesterday, it's looking much more positive. I see no reason to continue with Bell, Collingwood or Vaughan.

I would replace them with Bopara, Shah and Flintoff when he recovers. So I would keep Vaughan in until Fred gets fit.
