purpleronnie Posted 6 June 2008 Posted 6 June 2008 Nice comeback. Took you a while.booooooooo bad light stops play. Yeah...ages....I'm at work you know....talking of which, back to the grindstone.
Daggers Posted 6 June 2008 Posted 6 June 2008 I wish they'd get rid of that bloody Anderson. Too bloody right
SamL Posted 6 June 2008 Posted 6 June 2008 Quality play from Anderson, nice to see him finally get going. We're in a really strong position now but we've got to be more clinical when we're in winning positions whereas we haven't been in previous tests. It's not over yet though, we were in this sort of position and got out of it so maybe New Zealand could do the same. We've now got the chance to put this match to bed I hope we do it.
The People's Hero Posted 6 June 2008 Posted 6 June 2008 I'm the authority on cricket me. ps Nice to see Ambrose score fairly heavily with the bat again. Great cutter of the ball... we might have a gem there. If his keeping sharpens up close to the stumps he could be a genuinely top rate keeper/batsman for us for years to come.
Fox You Forest Posted 6 June 2008 Posted 6 June 2008 It's not over yet It's not over yet? This is done and dusted. ( i made a complete balls up of this post ) Atleast it will give Collingwood, Bell etc. a chance to get some pressure free runs in the second innings if England bat that far down.
Joe. Posted 6 June 2008 Posted 6 June 2008 I'm starting to wonder whether it's time to give Collingwood a break from the international scene for a little while, even if it's only for a few matches. I don't think anybody here has any doubts over his cricketing abilties but he's clearly not in the right frame of mind or possessing enough confidence to bat well for England currently. Maybe a break would do him good.

I think the hope is that a bit of ODI will set him straight. If not he should still have time for a bit of county action before the South Africa series. If not we'll lob Bopara in there instead of him.
C-man Posted 6 June 2008 Posted 6 June 2008 Collingwood should be replaced by Bopara and go down to County 2nds level. It's embarrasing watching him bat. I don't know what has got into him and Bell - I don't think it's just a confidence thing, Collingwood in particular looks like he's never held a bat before, this coming from a man who's scored a test double-hundred. Pleased for Anderson today, he's not the greatest and is frustratingly inconsistent, but when its overcast and humid there's no better bowler in the country. His knock this morning did him the power of good and really set him up for the afternoon. Expect him to get no more wickets tomorrow though, he's that kind of player!
Joe. Posted 6 June 2008 Posted 6 June 2008 Expect him to get no more wickets tomorrow though, he's that kind of player! His confidence will be sky-high so I'd definitely agree with you there. 10 wicket haul perhaps?
Fox You Forest Posted 6 June 2008 Posted 6 June 2008 Would we even be talking about Bopara had he not got 200 against Leicestershire.
The People's Hero Posted 6 June 2008 Posted 6 June 2008 Would we even be talking about Bopara had he not got 200 against Leicestershire. Bopara has been excellent at county level for a while now. He deserves a go at Collingwood's expense for a bit.
Nationwider Posted 6 June 2008 Posted 6 June 2008 I wish they'd get rid of that bloody Anderson. Too bloody right
Nationwider Posted 6 June 2008 Posted 6 June 2008 The most poorly timed comment you will probably ever make If he takes all ten, I will change my username to James Anderson.
Fox You Forest Posted 6 June 2008 Posted 6 June 2008 Bopara has been excellent at county level for a while now. He deserves a go at Collingwood's expense for a bit. Mark Ramprakash deserves another crack before Bopara thats what i think anyway.
RowlattsFox Posted 7 June 2008 Posted 7 June 2008 Bopara had a chance in Sri Lanka and failed miserably, not that I am saying he doesn't deserve another chance but I would stick with Collingwood for the time being. Hopefully he can regain some confidence in the one-dayers.
SamL Posted 7 June 2008 Posted 7 June 2008 Mark Ramprakash deserves another crack before Bopara thats what i think anyway. I agree. I don't think the bowling option that Bopara offers is vital at the moment as our bowling unit are playing well at the moment whereas we're in need of a specialist batsman who will come in and score runs. I feel Ramprakash is a better batsman than Bopara.
Uncle Albert Posted 7 June 2008 Posted 7 June 2008 Ramprakash wont come back to the England set up he has said this many a time, maybe because of the way he was treated in the fletcher era. Collingwood does need some kind of break from the Test game just like Strauss. If anyone is to replace Collingwood then Bopara is the man, as TPH said he has been class in the County game for a number of years and has constantly scored runs and has taken wickets. The ideal player to replace Colly then? Surely? But playing for your country is a big step up from playing for your county.
Manwell Pablo Posted 7 June 2008 Posted 7 June 2008 im about 15 miles away from Nottingham, theres no drizzel and theres nothing wrong with the light!! get on with it!!
Fox You Forest Posted 7 June 2008 Posted 7 June 2008 When has he said he wouldnt play for England? The selectors had him in consideration not that long ago if he said he didnt want to play i think they would know and not even consider him. I found this dated for today... Ramprakash rejected an offer to be official cover if a senior batsman was injured on England's winter tours - he interpreted it as a "PR stunt" designed to appease the "Ramprakash for England" party - and takes a detached view of the debate. He is available but hardly expecting the call Link
SamL Posted 7 June 2008 Posted 7 June 2008 Some more great bowling from England today. Two late wickets have turned the match on its head and we'll look to bowl New Zealand out early tomorrow. New Zealand are 169-5, 64 behind.
