Apparantly Jen stirred the whole situation by making a big deal about Rex smudging the painting or something.

The reason he's been getting stick in the house is cos he eats a lot and that's something that stirs resentment. But us on the outside don't really give a monkeys about that - we are more likely to get annoyed at Dennis acting like a peenis. And yes I'd definitely have reacted to Alexandra and/or Dennis being in my face.
