General Smuts Posted 1 July 2008 Posted 1 July 2008 After just watching and loving Adulthood, one face that popped up had a little blast from the not so distant past moment. Ben Drew aka Plan B plays Dubz and it got me delving through my iTunes to dig out 'Who Needs Actions When You Got Words'. And it still holds up, still has the same shock factor everytime i hear Charmaine, still the same raw energy mixed with soulful vocals throughout. For anyone who's never heard anything by him whether you're from an 'Indie' or 'Rap' background take a listen cos he's quality. And he can act too. Just in the process of downloading his bootleg album Paint It Blacker on the basis of hearing his version of Paint It Black by Rolling Stones. Looks very promising.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 1 July 2008 Posted 1 July 2008 The good thing about Plan B is that he is relatively still "underground", and, because of the nature of some of his music, it doesn't receive as much airtime as other artists. Therefore, a few years on "Who Needs Actions..." still feels fresh and exciting. The guy is under rated beyond belief.

Admittedly Run Come Save Me is one of the best ever UK hip hop albums (and you can't help but like songs such as Dreamy Days on the follow up) but he's not the man he used to be. And he is awful live.

What do you mean by "dance" music anyway? And does a lack of musical instruments mean it isn't music? Is a keyboard a musical instrument? A synth? A sampler? You do realise much of the hip hop music you listen to will just be sampled drum beats and other electronically created sounds... not much to do with real instruments either.

If you like hip hop then I reckon you'd appreciate a bit of dubsetp and if you grow to like dubstep you'd probably enjoy some breaks and if you like breaks you might get tempted by some drum n bass. Dunno I think they're similar, I've never really listened to much grime. Or maybe I have but I didn't realise! Try Benga - Diary of an Afro Warrior. It's on mininova so no risk... Master Fox knows more about the genre than me though.

Its very spacey (only word i can think of) I can definetly see that this type of music has influenced the sound of Grime a lot.

I'm not "down" with alot of music these days as alot of it is basically poo and sounds like everything else with no originality, but what is "Grime"?

Similar to Rap in a lot of ways, but it has a lot more energy and theirs less focus on the lyrical side of it. Only way i can think of describing it.
