Finchy Posted 8 July 2008 Posted 8 July 2008 Just wondering if anyone's gonna try and get one on Friday, judging by how quickly they were snapped up on the O2 online shop yesterday, they're gonna be hard to get. What stores in Leicester are people going to? I'm thinking of trying Hinckley because it's always empty, might stand a better chance of getting one
Monk Posted 8 July 2008 Posted 8 July 2008 I'm gonna get one but I'm not going to get up tight about it. What's the point, Apple will play the usual games and it will be available again soon after it sells out. Bear in mind the pre sale was an allocation of phones, not all the ones they actually have. Clever marketing. I'm going to try the O2 store near Liverpool St Station in London. It's in an area of office workers, who touch wood will not be able to queue at 8am. I'll be down there at 7.45. If they're queuing down the street then I won't bother. Bear in mind that they will also be in the carphone warehouse, and on the cw website on Friday too.
JoeyB Posted 8 July 2008 Posted 8 July 2008 They wont be that good just go for a SE c902 or wait for the SE c905 5 mega pix camera 905 will have a 8.1 mpc both much better phones
Monk Posted 8 July 2008 Posted 8 July 2008 Depends what you want really. Personally I have never used a mobile as a camera, and never will. I do however use a lot of data for email and for trading spread bets. I also hate carrying around an Ipod AND a phone. As much as I've liked Sony walkman phones the software is not even a scratch on itunes. Is there any other reason these phones are better than an iphone, other than the camera??
MC Prussian Posted 8 July 2008 Posted 8 July 2008 It's just another rip-off. Wait a few months. Or even a year or so, if you can and you'll see prices drop massively. I'd get one later on, but only if they finally manage to include more memory. Looking at my iTunes collection, I'd need at least a 30 gig model.

Just i find the opperating software much better. DOnt get me wrong iphones are good, but SE are better, if you break your iphone you have to wait ages to get a new one, and the contracts are shite on them

Yeah i definitely wont be in line at anything like 8.00 am I will go into Hinckley or Leicester at some point during the day and if there is a huge queue **** it and if these rumours about there being no white one available for lauch are true then i'll probably wait for that anyway. But i don't want to be waiting weeks for it as it's my birthday present and my birthday was the other day, plus i'm an impatient fooker. I'm sure your right, there should be loads of stock but you never know, O2 ****ed up big time yesterday with the online thing. They wont be that good just go for a SE c902 or wait for the SE c905 5 mega pix camera 905 will have a 8.1 mpcboth much better phones Nah i'm the same as Monk, i'll never use my the camera on a phone unless if just for a quick snap of something, can't think of many situations where i'd need more than 2 megapixels. If i wanted decent photos i'd use my Nikon SLR. The iPhone is just a great phone, it's not about the features for me, it's about how it works. The iPod cover flow, the amazing touch screen etc etc, nothing can beat it for design and usability. Plus i bum Apple products

Just to clarify - I walk past that O2 shop about 8-20 every day, going 20 mins earlier is not much.

The Nokia N95 8GB is Free on £35 a month on O2, the iphone is £99. To be honest I'm not too bothered about paying for the phone. I was so disappointed with my Nokia N95 last year and no current phones on the market really appeal to me. Sony seem to have no innovation at all. Samsung and LG just look and feel cheap. I'm never going Nokia again though. Bloody nightmare.
Monk Posted 11 July 2008 Posted 11 July 2008 Just ordered mine on the Carphone Warehouse website :-) Got to pick it up from the store on Tuesday. Good thing as well as there was at least 100 people queuing this morning when I walked past. Hilarious.
Finchy Posted 11 July 2008 Author Posted 11 July 2008 100? Pfft i wont bother going into town then especially as each store is only getting a few dozen 16gb versions. Might go for that Carphone Warehouse option too. *Edit* Shit 16gb sold out online now! I guess i've got a few weeks to wait then On the other hand, if i'm waiting that long, i can get the white one
MC Prussian Posted 11 July 2008 Posted 11 July 2008 If you can splash your money on an attractive, yet expensive mobile internet device that you can also use as a phone occasionally and if you don't mind being tied to your phone company with an expensive two-year contract with ridiculously high monthly rates, do not hesitate and buy one. NOW!!!

I do know what you're getting at. However I'm on Orange at the moment, I get a shite signal everywhere and I end up paying £40 a month for the privelage. £35 a month is fine for me as I doubt I will go over that. Paying £99 for the phone doesnt bother me, my ipod's warrenty is up now and it'll break soon so it's money I would spend anyway. The only other phone that comes even close is the N95 8GB, and I made a self pledge never to buy a Nokia again after the first N95 was SO bad. It's not as expensive as people make out. I got the 8GB one, I have 13 gigs of music but only listen to about 5gb max so it shouldnt be a problem.

Monk Posted 11 July 2008 Posted 11 July 2008 Unlimited wifi and internet 600 mins anytime anyone 500 texts that's easily enough for me. It's the internet that costs me at the mo

It's the internet that costs me at the mo That's similar to what I'm using at the moment, I think. Except it's £10 more a month, I don't get free video calls, MMS and TV and I don't like the length of the contract (mine's month to month and I can upgrade every 10 months). NO DEAL
Finchy Posted 11 July 2008 Author Posted 11 July 2008 Good news for me, Apple are actually selling the iPhones in store, so you don't need to go to O2 or Carphone Warehouse, and they get new stock in every day! PLUS they have White ones apparently! Definitely getting down to the Bullring 2moro morning!
Finchy Posted 11 July 2008 Author Posted 11 July 2008 Ok change of plan, my mum got me a 16gb from town at lunch time! Apparently she just walked in a got it, no line at all Btw it is awesome!
act smiley Posted 11 July 2008 Posted 11 July 2008 Whats actually new about this, because surely the old one was 3G too? I mean, that stuff's been around years!
Monk Posted 2 August 2008 Posted 2 August 2008 Bought myself one of these babies yesterday and have to say it is well worth the money. It is a quality bit of kit. The keyboard takes a bit of getting used to but the predictive text is very good. Only went for the 8gb model. But that's enough for me.

It's ok when it corrects your grammar and adds an apostrophe etc, but when it makes you type the wrong words it's quite fiddly to change it back. Few problems with the phone as well Like randomly quitting apps and sometimes the iPod starts by itself. But apart from that, incredible phone!
Collymore Posted 3 August 2008 Posted 3 August 2008 I'm going to get one of these, not even going to shop around, what's money for eh? xxx
dave_the_fox Posted 3 August 2008 Posted 3 August 2008 Can you get it with a half decent contract? e.g. more texts than minutes? (i currently get 300mins and 1000 texts)
