davieG Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 The Olympics are so tainted with money, drugs, nationalism, politics another nail in its coffin will hopefully bring about its demise in it's current form all the quicker. Let's resurrect amateurism! Frankly I'd sooner scratch my bollocks.

Frankly I'd sooner scratch my bollocks. I agree. Its a circus. However i do feel for the TRUE athletes who give it 100% and give their lives to the sport they participate in for it to be embroiled in so much controversy. Saw a programme on TV afew days ago going on about the pollution in Beijing and how the athletes will struggle with it. Also the Olympic officials have to get a health and safety license regarding that ascpect before the games get the thumbs up.....somehow i think they WILL get it dont you??? Regarding Dwain...no way should he get a reprieve...cheating bastard!!! Pump me up full of steroids and shit and i'll give you sub 10 secs in the 100m!!!
Hullfox Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 Let's resurrect amateurism! Erm haven't we seen how frustrating amateurism can be watching Leicester?
Wycombe Fox Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 As a clean ex-athlete I feel very strongly about this one. No he shouldn't go! I love athletics but if he goes to Beijing, it'll cheapen it for me. The bye-law has existed for the last 16 years. If you're a convicted drugs user then you don't get the chance to represent Great Britain in the Olympics - end of! The guy has the gaul to talk about restraint of trade. What about the trade that he's restrained of the athletes who have missed out on representing the country because Dwain Chambers had taken their place by virtue of being a cheat? What about the medals that other clean athletes have had to return because one of the four members of the relay team was a druggie? How do the other three feel about Dwain Chambers? As an athlete you rely on the authorities to keep the sport clean otherwise it's making a mockery of your dreams and sacrifices. I believe that the ban should remain as a deterrent and to give clean athletes a belief that they will actually get to an Olympic Games. Success is borne of belief. Time to 'rot in the reserves' Dwain

davieG Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 Erm haven't we seen how frustrating amateurism can be watching Leicester? There haven't been many instances of people playing for nothing.
Daggers Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 What did you do? Took a lot of baths from the sound of it.
Wycombe Fox Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 Took a lot of baths from the sound of it. I did road, track (1500 & 5000m) and x-country. Used to be captain of Leicester Coritanian AC. Many a night spent pounding the roads and canals of Leicester and the hills around Bradgate Park.
Shrenchel Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 I think he should definitely be allowed to go. I think all performance enhancing drugs should be legalised in sport anyway.

Many a night spent pounding the roads and canals of Leicester and the hills around Bradgate Park. You know what, I love PE, playing volleyball, football, stuff like that and then it comes to Athletics - high jump and all that I like but then 100 metres first thing in the morning after you've had your weetabix and 1500m
Darkzzz_ Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 Take him. I back Dwain, purely because of his name! Someone has to.
Wycombe Fox Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 I suppose he could always sign for City as we seem to be collecting Chambers! Second thoughts...nah!
Alexikokopops Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 Everyone deserves a second chance, let him go! I'm pretty sure he's had a chance, which he then decided to blow by taking banned drugs. He knew the rules, he knew the consequences. At teh end of the day, does anyone really care that much about the Olympics?
FleckneyFox Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 I think he should go, yes he cheated once upon a time and he's admitted it, hes clearly no longer cheating. He has served his 2 year ban and i think once a sportsperson has served their ban then they should be able to compete in all forms of their sport.
Tevez Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 Everyone deserves a second chance, let him go! Do they?

Female gymnastics anyone...? He did blow it to be fair, but now he's clean and trained hard for it, you never know he could be our only chance of gold. Imagine the controversy if he did win gold though!

Darkzzz_ Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 I once won the blue ribbon in the egg and spoon race at sports day in 1995. Nearly made the Olympic squad that year too. Damn you Mr Baines!!

The Stig Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 I'm pretty sure he's had a chance, which he then decided to blow by taking banned drugs. He knew the rules, he knew the consequences. Becoming my catchphrase at the moment but spot on. In other Athletics related chat, roughly related any how. Did anyone ever do the water race at Primary School sports day. You had a plastic cup of water and had to balance it on your head and get to the other end of the 100m track. If you dropped it, you had to go and re-fill and start again. I won one year and it remians to date my biggest sporting achievement.
Raj Posted 18 July 2008 Author Posted 18 July 2008 Yeah lets give him another chance Lets roll out Ben Johnson too!!!
