Scow Posted 5 April 2005 Posted 5 April 2005 Walker 7 - Had nothing to do. Maybury 7 - Got forward well down the left, excellent finish. Dublin 7 - Solid at the back. Dabizas 7 - Same as Dublin. McCarthy 6 - Caught out of position a few times - Pulls on to shirts too much. Gillespie 7 - Took players on and caused Wolves a number of problems. Williams 7 - Was everywhere in the first half, linked up well with Hughes/Connolly. Gudjonsson 6 - Battled well in midfield and broke things up. Sometimes a bit too rash. Hughes 7 - Showed some lovely vision at times. Very composed on the ball. Connolly 6 - Worked hard again, and didn't drift out wide as much. de Vries 3 - Lack of ball retention and presence upfront. Subs: Moore + Nalis - Didn't have time to make an impact.
Mark Posted 5 April 2005 Posted 5 April 2005 Walker 6 Maybury 7 Dublin 7 Dabizas 7 McCarthy 7 Gillespie 7 Williams 7 Gudjonsson 6 Hughes - 8 Connolly 6 de Vries 4 Stephen Hughes what a great player. I'm sure he would be so much more influencial played through the middle, Williams used to play the defensive midfield role at Forest, so he could do it here when Hughes is his midfield partner. We've got to give them a chance to play together in the middle at some point this season.

He doesn't win many tackles and drifts in/out of matches far too often - I can't see him as the sort of 'battler' we need when the chips are down.
C-man Posted 6 April 2005 Posted 6 April 2005 Walker 6 - didnt have to do much apart from pick the ball out of his net Maybury 7 - great goal, and a great flick on for Joleon lescott too Dublin 7 - Solid again, but passes go astray too often Dabizas 5 - Can someone please tell Nikos how to pass?!? McCarthy 7 - Crunching tackles always nice to see. Caught out once or twice though Gillespie 7 - Caused Wolves loads of probems attacking players, but lost the ball too much Williams 7 - Won the ball quite a lot last night, still improving Gudjonsson 6 - Too slow with a player at his back Hughes 8 - Best player on the night by far, he looked up and made quality passes Connolly 7 - Unlucky with the dissaollowed goal, worked hard de Vries 4 -

He was only once Kinnear played him the way we do now that he started to score goals and look a good player.
breadandcheese Posted 6 April 2005 Posted 6 April 2005 Walker - Cannot rate, had nothing to do bar having to take a goal kick every now and then or catch a ball. Did nothing wrong. McCarthy - 5.5 - Not a good game. It showed that he's a centreback playing in a fullback's position so not really his fault. Didn't really get forward on the overlap. Dublin - 7 - Bosses the defence and gets stuck in. Has been playing really well recently Dabizas - 5.5 - I just don't rate him. Don't like his distribution. Maybury - 7.5 - Got up the flanks, supported the play, tackled hard and a good strike for the goal Gillespie - 6 - Was OK, but not spectacular. Wish his crossing into the box was as good as the Wolves wingers Williams - 6 - Played well, good passes, neat touches, then just disappeared. Gudjonsson - 5.5 - I don't think he's all that. Passes go astray too often and doesn't marshal the midfield. Compare him to Ince (an OAP) and you can see the difference. Hughes - 8 - An excellent player. Would like to see him play down the centre. For a skinny lad, he gets stuck in, plays some good balls, works hard, runs all game. Connolly - 7 - Worked hard, made good runs, dragged defenders. Playing well at the moment De Vries - 3 - If slowing down play to a halt is a virtue, alongside being unable to win headers and make intelligent runs, then this boy is pele. He may hold the ball up at times, but I just feel he is the sort of player who is best coming off the bench to provide a different option upfront if we need. Would rather see more pace upfront. Breadandcheese final thought - Wolves only came at us in the last 5-10 mins and we capitulated. The quality of their crossing was far superior to ours. Why can't we put in balls of that quality?
dynamite foxes Posted 6 April 2005 Posted 6 April 2005 Walker- 6 not an awful lot to do McCarthy - 7 got stuck in and down the right quite well. final ball was poor though. Maybury- 9 kicked chunks out of seol and miller. excellent overlapping and great goal. Dublin- 8 won everything in the air. Dabizas- 5 marking was awful Gillespie- 6 inconsistent thorougout the game. panickeds at the end Hughes-5 rarely got in the game. I cannot see what you are getting carried away with. he is very very slow. Joey- 6 fair, still gives the ball away needlessly Williams- 6 in and out of the game. no doubt he has ability he just needs to get in the game more. Connolly - 7 first touch is improving linked up well with Hughes and Williams unlucky not to have had a hat trick. De Vries- 6 better, challenged in the air a lot more. still seems a bit sluggish to me but I can see he has ability.
jase67 Posted 6 April 2005 Posted 6 April 2005 Walker 6 McCarthy 5 out of position and didnt really give Gillespie any overlaps, some good sliding tackles Dublin & Dabizaz 5 Wolves got alot of free headers, often Miller was first to the ball in the air. Maybury 7 gave us some width and scored Gillespie 5 lots of runs, however once he realised he couldnt skin the Wolves defence he just keeped going inside. Even when the chances opened up on his left foot he just passed. Williams 7 played well but I wonder in the long run how we will fit him and Hughes in the same team. Gudjonsson 6 Hughes 8 Best game hes played for us lots of energy. Connolly 6 Usuall thing, worked hard but no goal. I was at the wrong end for the disallowed goal but he was unlucky that Oakes got fingers to his chip De Vries 3 This really was a poor performance, I cant find one positive thing to say about him.

TrickyTrev Posted 6 April 2005 Posted 6 April 2005 Walker 7 McCarthy Dublin 9 (That was the perfect central defencive performance, only missed a ten on acount of one or two misplaced passes) Dabizas 7 (Much Better) Maybury 7 Gillespie 6 Willimas 7 Gudjohnson 6 Hughes 7 Connolly 6 De Vries 5 Subs- Not worth mentioning

Gillespie was shocking, truely shocking. He epitimises why we throw points away and don't punish teams when they're there for the taking. 1 might be harsh, but he annoyed me so much he deserves it.
step Posted 7 April 2005 Posted 7 April 2005 Walker- Do we need him McCarthy - 6 Maybury- 7 He just dont perform on the left, except for the goal Dublin- 8 Dabizas- 5 Gillespie- 6 I wish he would take it to the line before crossing, Hughes- 7 Excelent first touch, Quality first half. cant remember him in the second Joey- 5 Poor performance even by his standards Williams- 6 Connolly - 6 he gets drawn away to easily. should goal hang more. was unlucky De Vries- 4 Realy pizzes me of, so strong, can be fast and has a good first touch. If we got point for holding the oposition players, pretending to head the ball and being pushed of the ball by a 3 stone midget. He would be worth millions. He has the ability, why dont he use it.
Stuliasz Posted 7 April 2005 Posted 7 April 2005 Walker 7 - steady didn't have a lot to do McCarthy 8 - thought your rating was a bit harsh, he showed no end of passion and some of his tackling was outstanding Maybury 7 - supported Hughes well Dublin 9 - probably his best game in a Leicester shirt for me, thought he was nothing short of outstanding Dabizas 8 - not far behind Dublin, but its the old using his hands to tackle a lot of the time, lucky to not give a penalty away in the last 10 minutes down my end for shirtpulling Gillespie 5 - just could not beat Naylor, but credit to him for keeping on trying Hughes 7.5 - considering he was out of position, I thought he did very well and showed a great range of passing Gudjonsson 6 - needs to look where he is passing it half the time Williams 6.5 - same as Saturday Connolly 7 - worked hard and was very unlucky with his chipped effort De Vries 6 - lost his ability to control the ball for some reason last night but he is starting to learn when to head the ball a bit more now

Gillespie wasn't even involved. That has also been his first remotely poor performance in a long long while, people are just too keen to jump on his back at the first chance they get.
