Legend_in_blue Posted 6 August 2008 Posted 6 August 2008 We should take this competition seriously. I don't care what kind of tin cup it is, if it means a game at Wembley at the end of it - I'm up for it. Bring it on!
Fosse Boy Posted 6 August 2008 Posted 6 August 2008 Any away tie will be welcomed to be honest, except Colchester. Nooooooo!!!! Col U would be great personally, even if the new stadium is across town from me!!! I think our newly found 'real' local rivals Northampton and Peterborough would be top of my list, though any game in London would obviously be good...
Tubes Posted 6 August 2008 Posted 6 August 2008 2nd Septmember assuming it the Tuesday night. Rules me out
Thracian Posted 6 August 2008 Posted 6 August 2008 Think we should definitely use this competition to play as many youngsters in the team as possible. Be great experience for them and if we get knocked out it aint exactly gonna be the end of the world, the league is just a tiny bit more important than this (dare i say it) pointless trophy. Why's that? It wouldn't be great experience at all. You've just said it's a pointless competition. They've had plenty of meaningless football already. Best let some of the team who took us down to Division One have a dose of the JPT to remind them of their achievements and save youngsters like Gradel, Porter and King so they can have a proper chance in the real world. Our kids don't deserve your condescension and contempt. At every level they've played, including first team, they've held their heads high which is more than can be said for a good many others. They don't need games where, if they play well, people say it was only a kick about and if they play badly it'll be strains of "they're not ready". The difference between you and I is that I regard Gradel, Porter, King etc as the core future of our team and the likes of Kishishev, Oakley and Hayles as fighting to justify their place.
Unit Posted 6 August 2008 Posted 6 August 2008 2008 winners!!!!!!!!!!!!!! congrats on winning a cup nobody here gave a shit about/heard about until we were forced to play in it. I can't imagine we'll take it too seriously

syston_fox Posted 6 August 2008 Posted 6 August 2008 You say that, yet this is a thread two pages long about the competition. That's because we're covering our backs for when we crash and burn in the competition
league1 Posted 6 August 2008 Posted 6 August 2008 That's because we're covering our backs for when we crash and burn in the competition I can see though your very excited about being in the paint pot.
lildave3 Posted 6 August 2008 Posted 6 August 2008 I don't see the point in belittling this tournament, I really don't.
Corky Posted 6 August 2008 Posted 6 August 2008 I don't see the point in belittling this tournament, I really don't. To be honest I'm now struggling to take it seriously with the draw live on Soccer Am.
syston_fox Posted 6 August 2008 Posted 6 August 2008 I don't see the point in belittling this tournament, I really don't. On one hand the likes of getting Barnet away leaves me excited but then theres the prospect of getting Colchester at home or something like that. It's like the carling cup, most people couldn't be bothered with that until we got lucky with the draws! A few good away draws and people will be over this competition like a rash!

I wish we could abstain. Having said that a good run would/should reap benefits for the whole squad. Mind you, a good run in JPT, LC, & FAC could see a massive fixture back log that could ultimately be our undoing.

Say we do have a good run and make it to the final.... would you turn down a day at Wembley? Sad as it may seem this is our best chance of silverware this season so embrace the competition and make the most of what it has to offer because hopefully we won't be in it again for a while!

I wouldn't goto Wembley if we got there. I'd HATE it. In other news, I will doubly jizz if we get Barnet away as I'll be coming back from Germany with my banet mates the day before the game is meant to be play :D . I'd even take a Barnet home draw.

Corky Posted 6 August 2008 Posted 6 August 2008 I'd go to Wembley - and that WOULD be good experience for the youngsters. And Radostin Kishishev
Asha Posted 6 August 2008 Posted 6 August 2008 We shouldn't make this a priority, but equally we shouldn't write it off as pointless. Whether we're using it as a chance to win a trophy and a trip to Wembley, or as experience for the youngsters...It's better competition than Academy/Reserves etc.
Thracian Posted 6 August 2008 Posted 6 August 2008 And Radostin Kishishev Absolutely - let em all come.
Bert Posted 6 August 2008 Posted 6 August 2008 I've got a load of mates down there, massive barnet fans. It'd be the best game of the season by a mile. And its terracing! :w00t:When is the game to be played btw? Get real mate. No it wouldn't.
Floating Fox Posted 6 August 2008 Posted 6 August 2008 Get real mate. No it wouldn't. It would for me
Cheese Me Posted 7 August 2008 Posted 7 August 2008 We should take this competition seriously.I don't care what kind of tin cup it is, if it means a game at Wembley at the end of it - I'm up for it. Bring it on! I agree. I want to win something. Come on NP - bring a trophy back for us
