James. Posted 3 August 2008 Author Posted 3 August 2008 Nice to see some Natural Self and Pete Philly in there!! More importantly is there anything on there you HAVEN'T heard before???? Will definetly download this tomorow. Good man. Not that much hip hop on there really, bit more of a chillout mix, but reckon you'll enjoy it nevertheless.

I don't think I have heard the Bukem track used to be well into Logical Progression stuff got about the first 4 (infact I have some on these fancy Vinyl Boxset things as well as cd I wonder if they are worth anything now?) mixed by Bukem and Blame and co a few of the Earth ones then got a bit bored with them might have to revisit them so I HAVEN'T HEARD THAT SONG unless it's on one of them OR London Elektricity. used to love a bit of D&B in the late 90's especially the moving shadow stuff but then got a bit fed up with it all for a time and being so eclectic found other things to amuse me. infact I think I am going to have to dig this out.... haven't heard it in about 10 years and THIS of course I trust you have this? it's one of those beg, borrow or steal albums an all time classic if you haven't got this you NEED it

And yes I have 2 Pages - absolute classic.

Fez of Mahrez Posted 26 August 2008 Posted 26 August 2008 1. LTJ Bukem - Rollercone Superb. Very summery. Had this on my car stereo the other day and my mum said it was the best thing she'd heard in ages. 10/10 2. Salmonella Dub - Bubble Thoroughly enjoyable. Reminds me of a street carnival I went to in Oxford over the summer. That was all dub blasting out of 10-foot soundsystems down side streets. I should get into dub properly now I have my new speakers blasting proper basslines out. 9/10 3. Roots Manuva - Highest Grade Dub See, this isn't for me. Can't get into this as much as the last one. Bit repetitive in comparison. 6/10 4. Groundation - Praising More like it again. I'm back in Oxford again. I don't think I could listen to this kind of music for days in quite the same way as some stuff, but to dip into every now and then it's fantastic. Close your eyes and you can imagine yourself in Kingston. This is the sort of thing that always makes me want to buy Trojan compilations but I never get round to it. 8/10 5. Buena Vista Social Club - High and Dry Quirky and interesting but I don't particularly like it as a piece of music. Sounds like it could be a Portuguese lounge singer. Music is so much about mood though. I'm in a bit of a bad mood at the moment for some reason. No, I'm right. This isn't amazing. 5/10 6. Pete Philly & Perquisite - Grateful Great spot by Jay, these. My two favourite tracks are Clap Kick Flow and Cheeky. I don't think this is on the same level personally, but both albums are decent. 7/10 7. De La Soul - The Magic Number Bit of a shame to "have to" listen to something I'm so well acquainted with in comparison with the rest of this. Obviously a classic but I stumble across it somewhere or other every couple of months on adverts or in clubs or whatever and as such don't really need to choose to listen to it myself. 8. Natural Self - The Rising I've never really got into these, smashing bassline though. 7/10 9. Stevie Wonder - Living for the City Good choice. Going to see him in a couple of weeks. Potentially one of the best gigs of my life. 10. Nightmares on Wax - Survival Really enjoyed this. Nightmares on Wax are another of those groups who I've always been on the periphery of liking. 8/10 11. DJ Vadim - Talk to Me Nice and chilled out again. Trendy bar music. I'm itching for something a bit more uptempo now though. 7/10 12. Belleruche - Northern Girls Recommended this to you. Great song and one of the best on the album. 13. Erykah Badu - Ye Yo Not for me. 3/10 14. Benga - Pleasure Interesting stuff, Benga. It's the last thing on earth I would have listened to 10 years ago. That says more about me aged 14 than dubstep though. 7/10 15. London Elektricity - Rewind Seen them live a few years ago. Didn't really take them seriously at the time though, wasn't into DnB at all. Good stuff again. 7/10 Overall - All in all, almost perfect mixtape given that I really need to get into some dub-type stuff and this is a decent introduction. Will be making an effort to download some things by Groundation in particular. Bit depressing in a way, makes me want to move to London which at the moment just plain isn't going to happen.
Samilktray Posted 26 August 2008 Posted 26 August 2008 Also JTB, you need to recomend me some of this 'DUB' malark.
James. Posted 26 August 2008 Author Posted 26 August 2008 Nice one. I appreciate a review. It's so much easier just to download a mix, listen to it, enjoy it but then not really think too much about it. But to actually take the time to write a few words means something. Not quite sure what to make of the fact your Mum thought Rollercone was the best thing she'd heard in ages. I'm going to assume you have a really cool Mum, for my own sake. It was for all intents and purposes a chill out mix hence the lack of uptempo stuff. My next one will be all about beats and breaks and basslines. Proper dance stuff. A party mix. You'll probably be the only one to listen to it Fez. Nevermind! But yeah cheers for reviewing. A couple of notes: Groundation - back catalogue available on Mininova. Praising is taken from the album, We Free Again. Rollercone - taken from Earth volume 2. The whole series is quality. As for the rest of you boys, I'll reupload it soon, along with my Party Mix (it'll be less gay than it sounds, promise).

And for those that missed it first time round, with thanks to Jay, here it is again: Part 1 Part 2 Remember - it needs to be listened to in order. God knows if it will download in the right order but each track is numbered. Enjoy.

Samilktray Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 Had a quick skim through of this, its pretty damn good. The Pete Philly track reminded me I lost there album when my computer got wiped, so I'm currently getting that again. I'll give that a listen and this mix a listen on the way to see the sibling. Cheers JTB, yet to let me down with music.
Joe. Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 Cheers for the re-up of this James, I'll give it a listen later tonight or if not tomorrow hopefully.
Alexikokopops Posted 6 September 2008 Posted 6 September 2008 Just downloaded both of them, it took less than two minutes. God bless fast internet.
