Ricosas Adianski Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 Anyone download the new album today? Yeh I got it and not that impressed tbh. I prefer the older stuff
hairy Posted 22 August 2008 Posted 22 August 2008 I have it and I love it! Glad to see they have left that pop sound behind.
Darkzzz_ Posted 22 August 2008 Posted 22 August 2008 I prefer the B-sides they done. Much more rawer and better.
Samilktray Posted 22 August 2008 Posted 22 August 2008 Been told to download this. So i may well do it.
Darkzzz_ Posted 22 August 2008 Posted 22 August 2008 Just downloading it now. See what they have to offer on this album.
Flynny Posted 22 August 2008 Posted 22 August 2008 Someone tell me if its like the 1st or the 2nd. The first is fantastic, the 2nd is interesting in places but his voice is suddenly shit and the lyrics appalling (they weren't great on the 1st but christ almighty).
Fez of Mahrez Posted 22 August 2008 Posted 22 August 2008 Personally, and I'm by no means a huge Bloc Party fan, I think it's fantastic.
Flynny Posted 23 August 2008 Posted 23 August 2008 I've just read a review of it and it sounds massively promising. Off I go.
joely22 Posted 23 August 2008 Author Posted 23 August 2008 Have downloaded it and absolutly love it. Love how they try and keep their sound fresh. Think it definatly works for them. The new stuff would sound great in clubs - don't know about live though.
Flynny Posted 23 August 2008 Posted 23 August 2008 Listened, approve greatly. And I fucking hated their second album.
grth2004 Posted 24 August 2008 Posted 24 August 2008 love the first album , hate the second album apart from one song , loving the new album thank god there back on form id say its as good as the first album
General Smuts Posted 24 August 2008 Posted 24 August 2008 Downloaded - cocked locked and ready to rock it as soon as my pizza arrives and the olympics has finished.
Flynny Posted 24 August 2008 Posted 24 August 2008 Just finished the 2nd listen and I'm still impressed. I think it'll take another couple before I'm completely under its spell but thats usually a good sign.
Darkzzz_ Posted 24 August 2008 Posted 24 August 2008 After one listen I think it is dog shit. I will have to listen again to really see if the words used above really justify it. I hope I can change my opinion after another listen.
Samilktray Posted 24 August 2008 Posted 24 August 2008 Jesus... even I enjoyed this. Zephyrus, Halo, Biko and Better Than Heaven were my stand out tracks. But Zephyrus really is a hell of a track.
Mark Posted 24 August 2008 Posted 24 August 2008 Still haven't listened to this because Mercury is just that bad.
Flynny Posted 24 August 2008 Posted 24 August 2008 It makes more sense in the middle of the album. Having said that the opening track is similar but better and a more obvious single I would have thought. Biko is great.
General Smuts Posted 24 August 2008 Posted 24 August 2008 Bloc Party - Intimacy1. Ares - More IMPACT than Elvis the ankle and leads fantastically into 'Mercury'. This could be the start of something truly unreal.9 2. Mercury - Grows and grows with every listen - heard it first on the radio and new instantly it was Bloc Party. Vintage Bloc and fantastic.10 3. Halo - A hark back to the riff driven Bloc of the first album. A solid album track and will be a grower definately. 7.5 4. Biko - The token slow burner to showcase Kele's vocal skillz with a new twist which im liking. Solid. 7 5. Trojan Horse - Lacks some of the pathos of Flux or Mercury that it promises early on but is still a quality tune. 8 6. Signs - Textbook glockenspiel action. That alone is enough for an 8/9. But it falters and splutters and loses its way from then and peters out towards the end. Weakest track so far 6.5 7. One Month Off - An album saver from the first note. TUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNEEEEE!!!!!!! 9 8. Zepherus - Im sure this is another made up word. Not a bad track at all and im liking the choir too. 7.5 9. Better Than Heaven - Another grower and more vintage Bloc Party. 7.5 10. Ion Square - Closer and another 'Little Thoughts'-esque slower track which you can almost see the live performance as you listen to it complete with dry ice and electric green lighting. Great track. 8 I can see why Fez likes this so much - the words are all utterly pointless and almost an afterthought to the music and beat. At under 45 mins its a short party but more than holds its own against Silent Alarm and easily surpasses A Weekend In The City. Builds on the promise of Flux and runs with it in the opening 2 tracks before falling back into being Bloc Party again. And im more than happy for them to do that. My favourite tracks are Ares and Mercury for thier instant appeal but i know full well that im going to continue to listen to this album and fall in love with every track in the same way i did with 'Silent Alarm' and i highly reccommend it. This has gone straight on my iPod and will be played to death no doubt. Return to form and a definate number 1 album. 8/10
Samilktray Posted 24 August 2008 Posted 24 August 2008 Downloadin Silent Alarm now. Been told its there best album.
General Smuts Posted 24 August 2008 Posted 24 August 2008 Downloadin Silent Alarm now.Been told its there best album. It bloody is. Helicopter is still epic.
Matt Posted 24 August 2008 Posted 24 August 2008 Downloadin Silent Alarm now.Been told its there best album. Download the remixed one aswell!
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 25 August 2008 Posted 25 August 2008 Where are you kids downloading it from and.........................is it free. Loved there first Album, not really heard there second but this one by all reports is good
Flynny Posted 25 August 2008 Posted 25 August 2008 Download the remixed one aswell! The remixed one is as good as Silent Alarm, the M83 version of Pioneers is epic epic epic. Questionable how they've released this new album though. It's potentially a absolutely massive crossover hit, and there's nothing better than a genuinely good album being popular. I mean this could happen anyway but its less likely.
