Legend_in_blue Posted 23 August 2008 Posted 23 August 2008 Oh did anyone else see the Tranmere fans dancing to the goal music when we scored our 3rd!!!!! Mad scousers! They danced at just about everything and anything. Probably their biggest game since the Wembley cup final!
lildave3 Posted 23 August 2008 Posted 23 August 2008 For me, Howard was better than Fryatt today. Fryatt just happened to be in the right place at the right time to score his goals. His touch at times was terrible and he was guilty far too often of trying to take one touch too many when attempting strikes at goal. Howard did everything well. Kept it simple. Fryatt tries to overplay the ball. As was shown today. Thankyou!
iancognito Posted 24 August 2008 Posted 24 August 2008 Oh did anyone else see the Tranmere fans dancing to the goal music when we scored our 3rd!!!!! Mad scousers! That was them taking the piss out of our lot looking like idiots dancing to shit music because we've scored. But enough of that, I've had my say on the goal music elsewhere. Martin 7 Flapped at a late cross but very solid apart from that Gilbert 7 Very impressive, supported Gradel superbly Dyer 6 Pinned back and had to cover Porter's mistakes on two or three occasions Hobbs 8 Solid, never troubled and deserved a goal in the first half from a great header Morrison 7 See above but strayed out of position occasionally Gradel 6 Had some decent moments but didn't get the service to get properly involved Porter 5 Very off-colour today, lost possession too often and needs to find form quickly King 6 Kept things simple but gets under Oakley's feet too often Oakley 8* Star Man. Quick free kick move lead to first goal and was involved all over the pitch. Howard 7 Much better from him. Gave their defenders problems and took his goal well. Fryatt 7 Right place, right time for both goals but that's what he's paid for Subs: Dickov 6 Chased and hussled but lets hope the left wing thing is to get him some games & fitness. Adams 6 Cracking shot going in to the top left lead to the last goal and looks useful when he's on the ball
Thracian Posted 24 August 2008 Posted 24 August 2008 For me, Howard was better than Fryatt today. In many ways you have a case. Fryatt has always tended to fiddle with the ball and miss passing opportunities. But I'll forgive him many things if he gets on the end of things in dangerous places and hits the net because that's what strikers are there for and what's been missing in him for too long. I've criticised Fryatt in the past, and with good reason, but at last we seem to have a strike partnership that works and while he's heading for the sort of goals tally I expect from him this season he'll .get all the encouragement and appreciation I can give him
Narborough Bod Posted 24 August 2008 Posted 24 August 2008 Martin 7 Poor kicking in last 15 minutes, flapped at a cross just before they scored, but great point blank save. Henderson in a ginger wig? Some communication issues with centre halves but to be expected this early doors. Gilbert 7.5 Would have made him MOTM if it wasn't for him being part of a defence which switched off for their goal. Very solid though. Morrison 7 OK, distribution not excellent but I like the way he is prepared to take the ball and look left and right using the hoof as the final option. Couple of shaky moments but strong enough for the opposition. Hobbs 7 Also fine, given a bit of a tough time by Savage but coped well, again solid enough against the opposition. Bottled his 'goal'den chance when he passed to Oakley first half. Dyer 7 Not bad considering out of position. Harried well. Being ultra picky, he could have held up their guy for the goal rather than diving in. Gradel 6.5 Tranmere did their homework and stopped his supply. Still did ok when he got the ball and one belting cross in the first half. King 7 Broke up a lot of attacks. Effective without being that noticable. If he can become something of a Lennon figure (i.e. we really miss him when he is out of the team) then more people will appreciate the work he is doing. Gave more licence for Oakley to get forward. Oakley 7.5 Looked decent enough against poor opposition. Please that he looked for balls to Porter / Gradel and he also tried to get forward. Porter 6 Flashes of something but I'm not sure what. Tranmere's gameplan was definitely to stifle both him and Gradel. it worked to an extent, but because Gradel and Porter stuck to their respective wings it opened up the play in the middle. Put in some very good corners. Howard 8 decent game, won a lot of flick on's. Right place for his goal and involved in the 3rd. Fryatt 8.5 MOTM, not just for 2 goals. His running and movement were something we missed last year. The amount of balls he chased down the channels was great and I am not a big fan of his. Just lucky that the Tranmere full back got up straight away because we'd all have been baying for blood if their CF had slid in on one of our defenders. Pearson 8 Another win which is what he's paid to do. We seemed to let them come at us for the first 20-30 today but they had no reel teeth (almost like watching us last year, good in short periods without really creating any chances). And he was in the technical area which is a big step up from Hollownobcheese last year. No doubt he will be caining the defence for switching off for their goal, but 3 points is 3 points. Also good to see us put a game to bed, rather than sit back and hang on. Ref - Don't need to say anything other than - see Thracian's comments, poor, inconsistent. Overall, a decent performance enough against a team who are worse than us. Easy to say, but we weren't putting these teams to bed last year. Another step in the right direction.

hebangsthedrums Posted 24 August 2008 Posted 24 August 2008 Martin - 7 - Very good save at an important time but two kicks were very bad. Dyer - 7.5 - Thought he might get exposed but did verywell, overlapping when possible. Excellent quick free kick Morrison - 7- Solid. Thought at Luton he might be prone to hoof but today his lofted balls were actually picking out runs acrossthe line. Hobbs - 7- Solid as well. Sign premanently please. Gilbert - 8- Excellent. I love the way whenever his man receives the ball he charges forward tight so they cannot turn, but has the pace to recover. Will never win a lot of headers but always competes to make sure his opponent isnt unchallenged. He is always biting ankles and several times yesterday nicked the ball away. Best full back we've had for a while IMO. Gradel - 7- Bit quieter than MK but still looked to make things happen. Two excellent corners and free kick for the goal Porter - 6- Off the pace as expected but did his best. One very good crossfield ball for gradel was just cut out. King - 6.5 - Quiet and didn't probe an awful lot, slipped after his best charge forward. doesn't look out of place though. Oakley - 7- Good run for the free kick, better than last year but I still think he drifts in and out sometimes. Howard - 8 - Goal and lots of graft. Tranmere seemed a particularly big side so we do need him to match that and he did today, holding up the ball & flicking on well. smart for the last goal - lofted header across goal instead of going for it himelf Fryatt - 8 - Two goals and again a lot of effort. Stupid tackle could have cost us but at least hes getting involved.
Chairman of the Bored Posted 24 August 2008 Posted 24 August 2008 Hobbs and Dyer outstanding. Good league debut for Martin (he should keep his place). I have started to believe again!
Guest Posted 24 August 2008 Posted 24 August 2008 Martin, Hobbs, Fryatt and Howard were the standout players for me yesterday. Not that I thought anybody had a bad game but these 4 were fantastic.
Ric Flair Posted 26 August 2008 Posted 26 August 2008 Martin - 7 Gilbert - 7.5 Morrison - 7 Hobbs - 8 Dyer - 7 Gradel - 7 King - 6.5 Oakley - 7.5 Porter - 6 Fryatt - 7.5 Howard - 8 Subs: Adams - 6.5 Dickov - 5.5
