Daggers Posted 2 September 2008 Posted 2 September 2008 Ah ok makes sense, We also have a performing monkey too called Headlander maybe we should pair them up. We have a couple of enforced changes due to International call-ups and (I'll wager) we'll be making two or three others as well. I'm reckoning the result will then be up to your lot and how seriously you are approaching it. Pearson won't want to lose and will not set out to do so but no tears will be shed if we leave this competition early - he's made that clear. The downside for your lot is that we are in a serious vein of form, if you caught the goals on Saturday you'll have seen us pass-and-move from defence to goal three time out of four. Stockport managed to block us by setting up a defensive stall and boring us into a 0-0 draw (hoping to nick one on the counter) whereas Cheltenham made the mistake of trying to harry and attack us. In all honesty, I can't see us losing a match unless we play someone who defends resolutely and has one or two lucky breaks going forward. ...and I can't remember the last time I felt like this it was so long ago! Are you heading to the match?
Head Honcho Posted 2 September 2008 Posted 2 September 2008 Hi Poolie I'm hoping NP will play a close to full strength as we'll need to to win tonight. 3-1 city for me
Stig the Lawnmower Posted 2 September 2008 Posted 2 September 2008 Johnstone's paint is a cup which most "small" clubs like Hartlepool have a chance of winning, But saying that we got knocked out by Morecombe before.I really don't know what team we will put out, I just want to take the nephew to his first football game before the "big" 3 Middlesbrough, Newcastle or Sunderland grasp him. Danny Baker used to tell his lad that Millwall used to be the biggest club in england and had won the european cup in order to get him hooked! maybe try the same!
HUFCPoolie Posted 2 September 2008 Author Posted 2 September 2008 What's this James Brown like? Is he as good as some are saying? He seems to have had a decent scoring record from the wing and now he's moved up front hasn't he? I liked what I saw from him the other week when I saw some highlights of one of your games. On his day he can cause anyone problems, He has a certain touch of flair about him and constantly has scouts from the SPL and championship watching him even Tottenham! He's ripped WBA defence to shreds the same with Colchester and S****horpe but since he signed a new 3 year deal his form has dipped. If he cannot get motivated for the game tonight i don't know what will, Keep an eye out for Joel Porter too IF he plays he is an ex Aussie international until he got injured and he is the striker pulling the strings for us . I will be there tonight hoping to see some free flowing football!! Makes a change from hoofball. We are a passing side not a 1 route and hope for the best so if your team pass it about we will too!
dandannieldanok Posted 2 September 2008 Posted 2 September 2008 1-1 for me, and then the penalties are a complete lottery to state the obvious. I'd be quite satisfied to see us avoid defeat in the 90 minutes and then a victory on penalties would be a bonus.
Thracian Posted 2 September 2008 Posted 2 September 2008 They key will be Leicester's closing down which Hartlepool might find a bit faster and more organised than they're used to. However we line up I cannot see Hartlepool stopping us scoring so it's a matter of how well we manage to subdue their efforts. With King out we'll doubtless concede at least once so I'm reckoning on a 2-1 win. However, having never seen Hartlepool that view is just a bit of sporting guesswork and might be totally underestiming the home side's capabilities. .

I'm glad to hear it. Too easy for kids to be glory supporters nowadays. We had a thread a little while back about why most Leicestershire kids support, Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool. It'll be Man City next! On the score, I hope LCFC win, but I would!!!!
TrickyTrev Posted 2 September 2008 Posted 2 September 2008 I think Hartlepool will care about this match considerably more than we will. It is all very well saying that Pearson won't accept anything less than 100%, but weakening the side, which I fully expect him to rightly do, sets out a conflicting message. The players wont purposely work any less hard, but their focus might not be at a maximum. TBH I don't even want a run in this competition. Firstly it is more games that we could do without and secondly it would just be embarassing to win it.

Pearson's come out and said the fans deserve a treat and that we'll "certainly be fielding a very strong side".

Pearson's come out and said the fans deserve a treat and that we'll "certainly be fielding a very strong side". A very strong side is a very different thing from our strongest side. At the end of the day any 11 we put out would be competitive and strong at this level.

Are we only going to be playing with ten men then?
Zingari Posted 2 September 2008 Posted 2 September 2008 i might put a monkey on leicester city winning this
davieG Posted 2 September 2008 Posted 2 September 2008 I thought Stringer just said King was playing. He is.
Mickey O'Neil Posted 2 September 2008 Posted 2 September 2008 3-0 LCFC.This might be a good thread for you an' all. If I give you a quid will you stick it on the lottery for me please?
Lichfieldfox. Posted 2 September 2008 Posted 2 September 2008 3-0 LCFC.This might be a good thread for you an' all. Stupendous call.....who did you predict to score?
JakeShingler Posted 2 September 2008 Posted 2 September 2008 i reckon 3-0 Leicester.... Good one mate.
Thracian Posted 2 September 2008 Posted 2 September 2008 I fail to see the connection!!!Are we only going to be playing with ten men then? Not at all. It was just that when he didn't play pre-season we always conceded something and Pearson even expressed his concern about it. As it happened he played anyway tonight so it didn't matter.
