It's only the ringing, it can feel like it is painful if you listen to it enough.Btw, I'm not asking for sympathy because my family can do that but just to see if anyone on here gets it. No sympathy from me , I get pain in the nerves of my face (hence also teeth and middle/inner ear) -that is no fun either. Generally when stressed! A couple of times I got temporary ringing in the ears from it, hence I thought I'd ask!!!
Raj Posted 2 September 2008 Posted 2 September 2008 I have had the benign tumor growing for a whil - it was quite far gone and had an ear infection at christmas which mixed with the tumor and never cleared - as the infection never cleared i was referred to a specialist. Dr Banarjee is a specialist in ENt. He sent me for a CT scan and did some tests he told me what i had and did the operation. 2 of the 3 bones in my middle ear have also been removed as they were infected badly. I think in my case the primary aim is to make sure the growth does not come back.In relation to the Tinnitus, from the discussions i have had and the reading i have done there is no known treatment and it is a percieved sound - or in other words there is no test to measure the volume of the sound as it cannot be heard by anyone but the person who hears it in their ear. The treatmens are more to do with how to cope with it rather than how to fix it. No not really, some people have it real bad and even killed themselves over it. I thought it was just naturally for there to always be some slight ringing, cause the body couldn't comprehend dead silence or something. I've had this my entire life.

Complete silence is a bit of an abstraction, surely? The "ringing" you'd hear in silence would be very soft. The ringing typical of tinnitus is not that soft (I believe) Listening to loud music for hours is bound to damage anyone's hearing. I am thinking of all those living with headphones permanently in their ears... they will probably have worse hearing than previous generations did!!! Ringing in the ears (e.g. for a few hours after a concert) is one of the early signs of hearing damage (initially temporary, can then lead to permanent damage)

It is constant ringing in the ear when you are in a silent environment, trying to fall asleep for example. It is literally torture. The more you listen to it, the more it gets louder and you hear new tones. Does anyone also get it on here? i've had it for as long as i can remember, i fact, i used to think it was normal to have it, until i mentioned a hissing in my ears to my dad and he informed me it was tinnitus and both he and my younger sister have it too. luckily imine is just a hissing that i only notice when i think about it. Yes, it's like trying to sleep in the middle of the M1 or EMA Runway. Plus all sorts of other sounds depending on the circumstances. NEMA anyway, have you tried having a personal stereo on low while you try to drop off? i do it when my ears are ringing badly. Why dont you just play loud music to equal it out?Or is that silly? not as silly as you think, although loud music wouldn't be for the best, a low, preferable, sound takes the ringing away.
