Granno Posted 1 November 2008 Posted 1 November 2008 I bought it last week. Some quality stuff on there.
syston_fox Posted 2 November 2008 Posted 2 November 2008 Pendulums cover of Violet Hill is the best of the bunch with Newton Faulkners version of Foundations being a close second (how he made a god awful song sound brilliant is beyond me!) Worst is Kate Nash murdering the Arctic Monkeys and the Ting Tings version of Standing in the way of control is poor too!
Samilktray Posted 2 November 2008 Posted 2 November 2008 Only really liked 1 or 2. The live version of Misery Business by Paramore which they did on the show they did the Kaiser Chiefs cover should of been on it.
AoWW Posted 2 November 2008 Posted 2 November 2008 Have been tempted to get this the last few times I've been out and seen it. Put off by the likes of Kate Nash and The Ting Tings though. Is it seriously worth getting?

Is it seriously worth getting? It's the same as any compelation CD really. There will be some songs that appeal but others that make your stomach turn just at the thought of them. If about 30 of the 40 songs appeal then get it and burn those songs to a seperate CD or two and then you won't have to keep skipping the weaker tracks. (Then put it on e-bay and get some of your money back)

Is it seriously worth getting? I know what you mean!! this one has Girls Aloud and Mcfly!!!! I mean what the hell is the point it seems they have to put a couple of token mass produced shite on for others to suffer and ruin a perfectly good compilation

Benji Posted 2 November 2008 Posted 2 November 2008 Nothing wrong with Girls Aloud. there is when it's a cd and not a dvd
Jay Posted 2 November 2008 Posted 2 November 2008 Nothing wrong with Girls Aloud. certainly is unless you turn the sound off!!

I mean what the hell is the point it seems they have to put a couple of token mass produced shite on for others to suffer and ruin a perfectly good compilation And both are really good songs on the album. The fact with both of those bands, mcfly in particular is that it's "cool" to hate them. Take mcfly for example, they have their own record label which they run themselves, they play their own instruments, write their own songs (apart from the odd cover which they will release as a B side to their own song) and they don't mime. They just make good pop songs and enjoy what they do and don't pretend to be the best thing in the music industry unlike some of the "cooler" bands around.
AoWW Posted 2 November 2008 Posted 2 November 2008 Having checked the tracklisting again I reckon there's, at most, 10 tracks on here that I haven't heard and might like. Can't be arsed to buy it for that number.
AoWW Posted 2 November 2008 Posted 2 November 2008 Sounds like far too much effort. I'll wait for someone to kindly upload it for me and PM me the link. She asks and she gets.
syston_fox Posted 2 November 2008 Posted 2 November 2008 She asks and she gets. Wouldn't it be nice if someone did the same with the new Kings of Leon album
Joe. Posted 2 November 2008 Posted 2 November 2008 This is being aquired as I speak. I'll let you know what I think to it in a bit (probably shit).
purpleronnie Posted 2 November 2008 Posted 2 November 2008 certainly is unless you turn the sound off!! And block out the ginge and the horse face one.
Joe. Posted 2 November 2008 Posted 2 November 2008 First CD 2's not bad, started with that one. Skipped The Script, Ironik and Kate Nash already though, all absolutely terrible.

I thought they actually did a pretty decent job with "lose yourself" though. Very ambitious and at least it was something a bit different

syston_fox Posted 2 November 2008 Posted 2 November 2008 It made me cringe Do you actually like the Script in the first place though? I can imagine that if you're not a fan it would just add to your dis-liking for them

They just make good pop songs and enjoy what they do and don't pretend to be the best thing in the music industry unlike some of the "cooler" bands around. It does make me laugh a bit when shit (in my opinion) bands like McFly are defended by saying "they play their own instruments, write their own songs, and they don't mime". So? If that's the criteria for musical respect to be earned then we're in trouble. I wouldn't say it's cool to hate them either. It's just natural. They're bland to the point of annoying. Just another band benefiting from excellent marketing. I would say there are hundreds of groups out there who could play McFly off the stage, the only difference is luck and money. But then as is always the case it's all about opinions and if they give enjoyment to lots of people then fair enough. I'm just glad I try to challenge myself with music and dig a little deeper than the charts. (Just re read that and I sound like Valerenga!

But they do make very catchy pop songs which are easy to listen to. They're just a fun band who don't take themselves too seriously and they're actually brilliant live having been to see them myself. I think the main problem with the music industry at times is that it's so up its own backside that the whole enjoyment has been taken out of it by many artists. The four lads from McFly are just out to have fun and love entertaining their fans. They also didn't like the whole marketing game that their record label was doing such as releasing the "greatest hits" album when by their own admition, they were not ready for it yet. That's why they've created their own label so they can go back to being all about the music - surley that deserves some respect?
