would you mind if I used the second or third one down for my screen-saver mikeyT?

Nah that's fine mate. :)

Do you actually have a copyright Mikey or have you just put it on?

I just stick it on. haha

I love that first one, love the kinda smug look on its face :D

Great pics

Thank you mate, Appreciate it. :)

I've never paid photography any attention as I've never had a good enough camera to go out there and take a snap. However, literally looking through a couple of pages in this thread has made me want to look into it and get out there and find some of my own. Quite inspiring if I'm honest.

MikeyT - some quality pictures there pal.

Cheers mate. Thanks. :)

Nice pics and nice doggy - is that yours?

Cheers. No he's not mine i just asked a couple waling him if they minded and they didn't. :)

I went to the Peoples' Photograph Gallery and I have to say I was disappointed it was not so much 'people' as the Leicester Mercury Roadshow and Commercial photographic Companies.

I was also disappointed at the lack of information attached to the vast majority of the photos I would expect at the very least a description of 'Where' and the camera/details relating to the taking of them to be provided.

Frankly I seen stuff as good as if not better on here.

What a let down.

What camera would any of you avid photographers recommend a complete novice. I don't want to spend too much on it, but I'd like a bit of picture quality. Cheers in advance

I still haven't been there. May nip in there next week to see.

It's still being worked on. The people working on it are volunteers. Atm a radio station point is being set up. Members of the public can go and have a go. I shall be there Wednesday for the launch of Community Media week as part of my Journalist course. There will be others there too trying to get members of the public involved with their own community. Will also be at Phoenix Square. There will be filming and interviews a photo taking and advice on how to get involved. I just hope I'm not asked too many questions.

The Peoples Pho Gallery is what it says in the name. People are free to contribute. Only been in once myself and that was when it first opened. The bloke that set it up did all the work himself and runs it virtually single-handed. Maybe if it gets some exposure next week things will improve when Media week starts.

If you're into point-and-shoot then look at what's often termed a 'bridging' camera, which has a large sensor and semi-manual modes but just one lens (i.e. you cannot change lenses). An entry level DSLR or even a Compact System camera allows you much greater power over your photography including a wide choice of lenses, will set you back at least £300 (for something like a Nikon d3100), although I'd opt for the d5100 which offers a bit more oopmh. I don't have much experience with Compact System cameras so could not comment on those.

Also, on the copyright thing: if you took it, drew it, wrote it, typed it, painted it, made it then you own it and therefore the copyright. There's some confusion with digital media but, in this case, if you take a photo then you own the copyright. In a debate over ownership proof is handy, but any picture taken on a digital camera will have EXIF data associated with it which records the time and date on which it was taken - which is why it is always important to set the time and date on your camera! DSLRs also allow you to add a comment or message - something I think was previously noted in this thread.

Took these last Sunday at Tutbury Castle on a special photography day. They had people there dressed in period costume, mainly from the Medieval period, but some from the 40's too. The woman in the orange is Lesley Smith from the television show "Most Haunted". She's also the curator of the Castle.

Taken with a Canon EOS 550D and Canon EF 55-250mm Lense.

Cheers for that, I'll have a little look into this.

Some photos from Rufford Abbey Country Park in Nottinghamshire. Picked up my Australian mate that lives in Bulwell to come with me. Felt dodgy parked up in Bulwell with a Leicester City window sticker on the back window. Ha.

Couple more from the other day when i was out. Fairly straight forward. Nothing amazing about them, just kinda like how they turned out though.

No means a photographer but I took a picture of the Sydney Harbour bridge last year that quite a few people told me was half decent.

Went out in Jubilee Wood yesterday lunchtime/afternoon to get some of the Autumnal colours on camera. Only error I made was not taking my tripod, so if there's a teeny weeny little blur on any, that's why. :)

Wish Leicester still looked like this, rather than the clone of every other City it has become.

http://www.thisislei....html?showImg=1

Nice to hear someone of the younger generation appreciate the city of our childhood.

I've been meaning to ask this question about your camera and lenses. I have owned Nikon equipment since the seventies and so collected a few lenses on the way. My Nikkormat was stolen and ultimately replaced with an automatic N8008 then into the digital age with my current D80. I looked at the Canon but decided that with my lens collection. it would be silly to waste them when they would fit on the D80 body.

I look at my photos and compare them with those taken by you and others with Canon and really do regret that decision. Just about every great photograph I see on Deviant or Flickr has been taken with a Canon. Even the news and sports guys use them. Canon photos seem so much vibrant and well exposed compared to mine which seem to be washed out in bright sunlight or underexposed in darker situations or cloud even with using an f1.8 lens. I guess not so much a question but your thoughts would be appreciated.
