Ricey Posted 18 April 2005 Posted 18 April 2005 I watched David Connolly once again warm up virtually on his own, he ran behind everyone else with not much effort and when in a group he was always a ew yards away on his own. It appears he is an outcast amongst the group because he does this every gamje I have seen him. I also watched him score only one goal in about 10 shots from about 4 yards out with just the Hircshfeld to beat Later in the game when we got the freekick just outside the area he immediatley picked up the ball, Joey went up to him to ask for it so he could take it but Connolly just snatched it away from him with force. He then proceeds to to take one of the worsts frekicks I've ever seen, no wonder the players don't want to train with him. Finally credit to Dion Dublin. Joey Gudjonsson lost the ball just outside our area in the first half and Wigan nearly scored, Gillespie and McCarthy then went right up to Joey and screamed in his face.....what good is that doing!! It's just going to crush his fragile confidence! Dion then came over and told Gillespie and McCarthy to get lost, placed his arm around Joey and told him where he went wrong and how to improve. Dion did the right thing and it proves why we need him in our squad for next season (not a regular though).

We should try and give him a player/coach contract like McKinlay has at Fulham
BartonFox Posted 18 April 2005 Posted 18 April 2005 David Connolly has always warmed up like that throughout his career it is just how he is. There is nothing sinister in it I can assure you.

Who ate all the pies? Posted 18 April 2005 Posted 18 April 2005 The only thing I noticed was that even massive amounts of alcohol and watching strippers (stag party) doesn't make the situation we find ourselves in easier to take! And they were good strippers!

Ric Flair Posted 19 April 2005 Posted 19 April 2005 Can anyone remember when we first signed Connolly? Rumours flew about how he had an awful temperament and that if things didn't go his way he'd be off. I think he's handled himself very well this season considering the shite he plays with. Perhaps he has had a falling out with some of the players, it regularly happens in teams. Connolly was right to command the ball for that free-kick, granted it was a shocking effort but I liked his authority. We often waste set pieces and it was good to see someone take rank, plus Connolly has a decent shot on him half the time. I remember up at Crew for Leveins first game in charge when Connolly had two sweet free-kicks that struck the woodwork. Best player we've got other than Stearman.
