Monk Posted 4 January 2009 Posted 4 January 2009 I know this website has been about for ages, but the 'Megatrains' section just used to do discounts on South West Trains. Recently they've included the Midland Mainline route as far as Sheffield. Yesterday I bought 2 £10 returns from London to Leicester. The cheapest I could find on any other website was £20, and the usual price for me to get home to Rutland from London is £45 (since my railcard expired). I'm not so keen on the bus, but there are some fantastic deals. London - Pompey return on the train for £2... that would mean a day trip to the Isle of Wight for under £20. Anyone else use this site?
Monk Posted 4 January 2009 Author Posted 4 January 2009 It would help if Leicester train and bus stations were remotely close together, right now if I want to get to Oakham by bus I would have to walk across Leicester between the 2 stations to get the train to Oakham.
Alexikokopops Posted 4 January 2009 Posted 4 January 2009 It doesn't really make much difference for me between London and Leicester because I get a Young Person's discount anyway. I had a look and a return was about £16, which I can get anyway through normal channels.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 4 January 2009 Posted 4 January 2009 I've used it. My wife and I enjoyed a spiffing day in her majesty's fair town for the princely sum of 5s and 4d! Ok, then - less than £20
Floating Fox Posted 5 January 2009 Posted 5 January 2009 Cheers monk, you reminded me of this. You just saved me about 50p...
Alexikokopops Posted 5 January 2009 Posted 5 January 2009 Just booked my train travel for the weekend. Staying in Leamington on Friday night and Coventry on Saturday night. London to Leamington on Friday: £6.60 Leamington to Coventry on Saturday: £2.45 Coventry to Leicester return on Saturday (for the match): £5.20 Coventry to London on Sunday: £8.40 £22.65 for the weekend. Who needs Megatrain, ey?
Monk Posted 5 January 2009 Author Posted 5 January 2009 Methinks you have an unfair advantage on Virgin trains! Maybe I may get a sniff at this discount myself someday...
Alexikokopops Posted 5 January 2009 Posted 5 January 2009 Methinks you have an unfair advantage on Virgin trains! Maybe I may get a sniff at this discount myself someday... Only the last leg (Coventry to Euston) has a Virgin Trains discount! The rest are other train companies, using my regular 16-25 discount. If you're coming to Crewe away you might get a sniff at it, there's a direct Virgin Train from London to Crewe
