Asha Posted 18 February 2009 Posted 18 February 2009 16 points clear of third. Championship here we come. Fact. Should have won had it not been for losing concentration at the end... Going to hartlepool and getting a point is a decent result. They are high goalscorers at home and this could potentially have been a lot worse. Still a massive gap between us and third. Conceding the late goal has merely lowered the number of points we're going to win the league by.
frozenfox Posted 18 February 2009 Posted 18 February 2009 ive always said that a point on the road is great but we must get back to collecting all 3 at home
Ultra Posted 18 February 2009 Posted 18 February 2009 More squandered points... If we weren't so far ahead we'd be quite rightly condemned as unprofessional for conceding too often in the dying minutes. With a run of tough away games coming up for us, Franchise will be confident of catching us - especially if Pearson keeps making eccentric selections like he did tonight. Morrison at right back? Dyer STILL in the starting eleven? WTF is going on??? The latest fcuk-up, against a team twice already beaten comfortably this season, has made the run-in a good deal less relaxed than it should have been. PS Stuff the unbeaten record - it means nothing when set in a Mickey Mouse league like this. The 1971 side that set the previous record had some players of real qulaity in it. This one doesn't.
Daggers Posted 18 February 2009 Posted 18 February 2009 I enjoyed that. I'm not going to read the previous six pages as I'm guessing it's full of miserable crap - I caught sight of Ultra's post and that was enough for me. We looked weak on the flanks but there were a stack of positives and the ref was a total cockhead. A reasonable atmosphere, brilliant stewarding and the best parking I've had at a ground. Ever. iPod car disco wasn't bad either - well done DJ's
Thracian Posted 18 February 2009 Posted 18 February 2009 Playing Morrison at right-back didn't work. In fact we were skinned down both flanks on several occasions and Morrison was subbed in the end. Brown couldn't find a pass first half, improved second but didn't seem to be an improvement on Hobbs/Morrison. Bunn looked like a good acquisition. Couple of quality stops and his speed of distribution was something else. He looked chuffed as can be when MoM Steve Howard slotted our penalty to make it 2-1 but, guess what, instead of pressing and denying them time and space we suddenly conceded ground and tried to play out the last few minutes and paid the price. Not that we deserved to win. They looked as good as anyone we've played. Competitive, quick, skillful and with Monkhouse and Joel Porter outstanding. The referee was a comedian. Their penalty was no more a penalty than ours and that's just for starters. We did have chances - Howard and Fryatt had the best - but they were first to the ball, stronger in the tackle, won so much aerial ball and really had a go at us down the wings and the inside channels. Great support from the City faithful - about 800-1000 of the 4000 crowd.
Tommeh Posted 18 February 2009 Posted 18 February 2009 Funniest night out I think I've ever had....pure comedy start to finish. Thought Hobbs, Berner and Howard had decent games but on the whole it wasn't our best display and I'm happy with a point. Pretty sure this thread will be full of moaners but they will just be ignored....Cancer comes to mind. Oh and being right in front of steves penalty was a special moment. Our support was also much improved I think many good faces there tonight and constant noise, ignoring the 30 odd sitting near the middle, who even moaned about all our fans standing, its laughable.

It was a point won tonight. We might easily have got nothing. And yet we might have won 4-2. Cracking contest, plenty of incident after a slowish start. Great day out all round. Even the ref was entertaining cos he became so bad it seemed like whatever was the right decision (for either side) he'd give the opposite. I can only imagine he'd been made aware his first penalty decision was a cock up and gave Leicester theirs to even things up. It'll be worth watching on video cos the incident really was comic.
lildave3 Posted 18 February 2009 Posted 18 February 2009 Incredible night, what a chuckle. Steve takes a pen right in front of us, scores it, then stands there starting at us. Heroic. EDIT - Ref was shocking, neither of the pens were pens, and then Fryatt gets brought down properly and gets nothing. And he was bald. Bag of shit.
Guest Posted 18 February 2009 Posted 18 February 2009 Few thoughts on the game tonight. Positives Bunn looked like he'll eide us over til Martin's back Howard - Top notch Not so positives Shit ref, Fooking dodgites lobbing a glass bottle at me on the way back to my car (one of the scummiest areas I think I've been to in a while) Am I the only person who thought that Kingy went missing for a large part of that game? Dyer looks knackered and needs a rest IMO
lildave3 Posted 18 February 2009 Posted 18 February 2009 King wasn't happy when Steve's header went just over at the end. Ran into the back of the net, booted a beach ball and shouted '****in hell'. Few words of inspiration from me and Tommy and he was soon perked up.
Guest Posted 18 February 2009 Posted 18 February 2009 Quite literally, Super Steve!! Only thing missing is the cape
carterfox90 Posted 18 February 2009 Posted 18 February 2009 a point is a point nearer promotion  oh & leeds lost again :crylaugh: :crylaugh:

Guest Posted 18 February 2009 Posted 18 February 2009 There is absolutely no better way to describe them, well maybe the four-letter one that will ultimately end up becoming 4 little stars on here
Wilson_6 Posted 18 February 2009 Posted 18 February 2009 .........we just need a good win and weel be sound and back to wining loads. still not lost though yet

Thracian Posted 18 February 2009 Posted 18 February 2009 How long did it take to get there in a car? 3 hours for me.

Dyer looks knackered and needs a rest IMO I don't think he went missing so much as the ball went over him so much. Being fair to our considerably changed defence they weren't given much time to play simple passes to feet and King wasn't given much chance to make space either. He wasn't the only one to suffer. Hartlepool hurried everyone. Fryatt had a couple of good efforts but not many, Oakley was rushed into mistakes, Berner the same and those midfielders weren't helped by Morrison and Mattock having quiite enough to cope with without sprinting forward much to reinforce attacks. Credit should go to Hartlepool but both King and Oakley still managed to produce the move that led to Howard's opener and two goals away from home plus a considerable number of chances doesn't suggest anyone went missing as such, just that they didn't get things their own way by any means.
Sniffer-Clarke Posted 18 February 2009 Posted 18 February 2009 I cant help wondering what as happened to Matty Fryatt, my son went up to hartlepool last night and said he was absolutely rubbish cannot see him cutting it in the ccc league.
davieG Posted 18 February 2009 Posted 18 February 2009 From the Merc Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson praised his new faces for the battling 2-2 draw at Hartlepool last night. Only a last-gasp leveller prevented City from gaining another away win. But they still equalled the club record of 19 unbeaten league matches. And Pearson gave goalkeeper Mark Bunn and defender Wayne Brown a lot of the credit. Bunn joined City from Blackburn on the evening before the match but looked very steady at the Victoria Ground. document.getElementById('article-detail-impact-tile').innerHTML = document.getElementById('INVarticle-detail-impact-tile').innerHTML;document.getElementById('INVarticle-detail-impact-tile').innerHTML = ''; Brown, on loan from Hull pending a permanent deal, was outstanding at the back in his first full start. Pearson said of Bunn: "I thought he dictated the pace of the game when he had to, his distribution was excellent, he was very positive, an excellent talker and I am delighted to have been able to bring him in. "Sam (Allardyce, Blackburn boss) has done us a big favour there. "Mark has been on the bench for them this season and they are under pressure themselves, so for Sam to allow Mark to come to us is a big plus for us. "The plus for the player is that he will play games. Blackburn have a 24-hour recall on him so it is a situation we have to be vigilant about in case we have to get someone else. "But it has been very helpful at a stage in the season when results are so important for every team." As a defender himself, Pearson was delighted with the commanding display of Brown, not just because of his play but because of the influence he can have on a very young back division. Pearson said: "He has showed the qualities we expected him to show." The City manager was also relieved that Brown got up relatively unscathed from a late challenge. Brown was making his first start in a reshuffled back four with Michael Morrison moving to right-back for Kerrea Gilbert to make room for the Hull loanee. Pearson said: "I made the changes partly to counter what the opposition might do, but also to freshen things up a bit. "We should have cleared the ball before their late goal but you have to realise that, with young players, they will sometimes make mistakes. "We are disappointed we didn't see it out. We could and should have had all three points but, even while we are not at our best right now, we are proving very hard to beat and always give ourselves a chance to win the games. "We took a bit of time to get our passing going. We did better in the second half – credit to them for making it difficult for us – and, even though we can be better, I still think we deserved to win the game. "It is a point in the right direction. It should have been three and, on another night, it would have been."
Number 6 Posted 18 February 2009 Posted 18 February 2009 Pretty gutted to be honest. Other teams are not getting results and so was a missed opportunity I feel. However if other teams continue to drop points too then we are ok. MK's games in hand are by no means certain wins, and I feel that once we put in another good win we may be back to winning every week. MK Dons game will start the good run.
