Bert Posted 24 February 2009 Posted 24 February 2009 A bit early I know. But I thought I'd start this thread now, mainly because I'm a bit bored, but I'm sure i'm not the only one on here that's looking forward to it. There's four great days of racing to be held, with some brilliant horses running in some brilliant races. I'll have a lucky 15 on the 4 televised races every day, (Not big stakes, just something to make it more interesting) and a bet on the big race each day. I know there's a betting thread too, but this is one of the biggest horse racing events of the year, so this can be the thread for everything Cheltenham based - Tips, horses you fancy etc. Anyone on here lucky enough to be going? The Festival Homepage.

Ric Flair Posted 24 February 2009 Posted 24 February 2009 I'm going the Gold Cup, I literally cannot wait!!!! I am then tempted to get the train straight to London in the early hours of Saturday morning pissed up for the Millwall gigginz. Just hope i've got enough monies for this as i've got to save for Thailand, need a big win.

Matt Posted 24 February 2009 Posted 24 February 2009 I know someone who is going, I think he gets free tickets so I am trying to blag a ticket and trying to tag along with him but I doubt i'll be successful. Not a tip but my bosses' horse is racing in the Gold Cup, I have mentioned the horse a few times, I have lost quite abit on the horse but have made it back recently - Imperial Commander. Doubt it has any chance of winning but think I probably will have 5 or 10 quid E/W on it @ around 40/1. Last year I ended up about evens I think, I normally bet quite abit throughout that week, last year on the Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday I won a few times but on Friday I finish work early so went down the pub for an afternoon of betting, 13 pints of Guinness and betting don't mix, all that I won during the week I lost because I got too pissed to make wise decisions + I was quite ill after several pints of the black stuff.
Ric Flair Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 Albertas Run won me about £600 last year after having £20 on it to win at 9/2 a month or two previous to Cheltenham and then letting all the winnings ride on it's race in the Sun Alliance. One of the best feelings of my life that was.
Matt Posted 6 March 2009 Posted 6 March 2009 Hmmmm to book some days of work, or not to book some days of work next week?! I'm also unsure what to do with an offer from Will Hill - The offer is bet between £5 and £50 and they will match it for the 1st race at Cheltenham (1.30 on Tuesday), You can only do it on the 3.10 @ Sandown. I'm looking at 25 quid each way (That will still count for them to match £50 wouldn't it?) on Mr Thriller (3.10 @ Sandown - Tomorrow/Saturday) 7/2 - Favourite And Cousin Vinnie (1.30 @ Cheltenham - Tuesday) 5/2 - Favourite.
Bert Posted 6 March 2009 Author Posted 6 March 2009 Well looking forward to this. I'm going to do a "Fantasy festival" type thing. I should have it ready in the next hour or so.
Matt Posted 7 March 2009 Posted 7 March 2009 If only todays game was next weekend and away. Now that would be a weekend and a half!
The Reverend Posted 8 March 2009 Posted 8 March 2009 Got two tips. Smurfit Kappa on Tuesday - Katchit - currently 14/1. Gold Cup on Friday - Barbers Shop - just gone down to 12/1 from 14. Livid. I've stuck a fiver each way on both. These are both Each Way by the way.
Matt Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 Right my bets for tomorrow. £25 Free Bet 1.30: Cousin Vinny @ 2/1. £2.50 e/w - £5 Free Bet 2.05: Forpadydeplasterer @ 10/1. £1 e/w 2.40: Witchita Lineman @ 6/1. £1 e/w 3.20 - Celestial Halo @ 9/1. Hopefully I can make a killing on the opening day and just have abit of fun for the rest of the festival, Never happens though. Was looking at having the rest of the week off work but although I do love Cheltenham it's abit of a waste of holiday time. I've got my radio tuned to 5live, I was tempted to take my TV and Laptop to work so I could watch and bet but don't think my boss would be took happy with that, Even though we ain't too busy anyway...Might ask him see what he says TBH I could just use the PC's upstairs in the offices to put any bets I needed putting on, and I have my radio as I say - Not the same as watching it though, We might be allowed to watch the race the owner of my company owns, someone bought a TV in and we were allowed to watch that race one year, but a TV on my bench? I think that would be a no no.
Head Honcho Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 I'll be going on Thursday (Ladies Day) if I can get a ticket for a decent price. I can get a best mate stand ticket for £20 but I want one for the club enclosure-I'm sure that's where all the totty will be I did have the friday off to recover but swapped it for tomorrow-can't miss the first day.
Head Honcho Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 Well looking forward to this.I'm going to do a "Fantasy festival" type thing. I should have it ready in the next hour or so. Sorry Bert didn't realise you had a thing going too.
Bert Posted 9 March 2009 Author Posted 9 March 2009 Sorry Bert didn't realise you had a thing going too. Not a problem mate, join if you want!
Bert Posted 9 March 2009 Author Posted 9 March 2009 I'm well excited for this week btw. Placepot and a lucky 15 each day me thinks, just makes the watching that little bit more interesting!
Head Honcho Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 Not a problem mate, join if you want! I can't find the thread
fox123 Posted 10 March 2009 Posted 10 March 2009 I am really glad Simon Holt is commentator for Channel 4 and not BBC, he's the best commentator going and it's a shame he doesn't do football.
Ric Flair Posted 10 March 2009 Posted 10 March 2009 Calgary Bay is this years Albertas Run for me, except I don't have £110 on it. But still backed it significantly.
Bert Posted 10 March 2009 Author Posted 10 March 2009 As soon as Barry Geraghty looked behind him going up the hill I knew it would win.
Bert Posted 10 March 2009 Author Posted 10 March 2009 Really fancy Dear Villez in this one now. Was gonna do it this morning, but seen Sam Tomas was on it and he doesn't like me, but now Ruby's on it.
Bert Posted 10 March 2009 Author Posted 10 March 2009 Oh my, what a fantastic fooking ride that was. Hats off to McCoy - That's why he's the best.
