Shrenchel Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/t...ton/7909576.stm Well done m8s. It was definitely a really excellent idea to build a 25,000 seater stadium when your average attendance is about 3,000. I had a fiver on them to go up as well.
Tilley Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 Have to say I agree with the stadium situation, ecspecially considering where they are. I'm all for planning for the future etc. but did they really need a stadium that big? How different it could have been for them if they had gone up via the play offs last season.
Fosse Boy Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 Wasn't that all their gangster ex-chairman's fault? It's sad, anyway.
Guest Bilo Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 Wasn't that all their gangster ex-chairman's fault? It's sad, anyway. It was and the guy did actually go to prison for fraud. It always struck me as a bizarre decision to build a 25,000 seater stadium when Feethams was perfectly adequate for their position. One of the stands they demolished was less than five years old apparently.
The People's Hero Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 Just a few months after this... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/tees/7802920.stm Madness.
Flynny Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 I often chose them on Football Manager with a view to filling that stadium. Easy.

So the geezer just built a huge ground so he could skim more money off the project?
Tommeh Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 Feel for all their fans and it's always horrible to hear ANY club go through this. But there must be one prize cu nt right at the top of it all who has decended them into a right farce and seriously needs shooting. And I thought our home games were shite!

Baffling decisions on the stadium front (and no doubt other areas of the club's policy too), but I guess it's just so typical of the people who run football nowadays. Poor Darlo fans.
The People's Hero Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 When he went in there originally, he claimed to be in talks with Asprilla, if I recall correctly.

Guest Bilo Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 Interesting. Don't think I ever heard about this. So the geezer just built a huge ground so he could skim more money off the project? I'm not 100% sure if the two were related. I know he pretty much brought the club to its knees and he is one of the least popular men in Darlington, but as for whether he defrauded or mismanaged the club, I can't say. Wikipedia will tell me,. EDIT: AFIE beat me to it!

Guest Bilo Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 Apparently he went to prison for tax evasion rather than fraud. My bad!
Floating Fox Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 I probably couldn't think of a club I would like to support least than these. Must be horrific!
Alexikokopops Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 The most ridiculous thing about the decision to build the stadium (whatever the reasons were) is that even though it can hold 25000 this is restricted to 10000 for football matches due to gash transport infrastructure.
purpleronnie Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 The stadium looks so stupid. Why not build a smaller one which could be expanded. Plus the stadium they built is the most boring I've ever seen and despite it being new it looks a right mess.

Samilktray Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 Its not even ugly. Or is it just that its modern...
Joe. Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 Their **** of an ex-chairman has done all of this to them, remember an article in FourFourTwo a while back about it. Absolute willy puller.
Floating Fox Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 Its not even ugly.Or is it just that its modern... Or the fact its never even been half full
davieG Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 Our proposed, by Pierrepoint and Co 40,000 seater stadium on Bede Island would have looked pretty stupid this season, yet it was only the Offside mob and Leicester City Council that stopped it happening.
Simi Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 Apparently he went to prison for tax evasion rather than fraud. My bad! Wonder how he managed to pass the fit and proper test.
Floating Fox Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 Wonder how he managed to pass the fit and proper test. Seriously, My cat could pass that.
