Kenton...

He's had some people say he doesn't do this, and doesn't do this etc, but today as a Central defender, I think he looked the part.

Him and Paddy did well together.

At 26/27 I think we should snap him up.

Also, while they sign him I think they should also sign Dion Dublin up for another year.

Those two in the center were magnificent, all 4 of them were. None are slow. None are old.

Best back 4 performance of the season.

Good post. Agree with everyone of your points there

not seen him much except West ham, but he was highly rated at Norwich and he is very quick, so he is worth a punt. I think we need another centre back though, Webster we can only wish I think.

They were not tested much, but it is a good combination. The pace of Kenton and Stewart is vital for us to play higher up the pitch and not get caught out.

I've been saying for weeks we should try him at centre back and bring Jordan back in! Looked very comfortable today all over at the back, Dabizas out, hopefully at the end of the season this will be the case and on today's performance that's my back 4 if we can get Kenton in! We actually broke down attacks tonight :o

Can't agree more guys.

Kenton was outstanding (along with the rest of the defence) and looked so much better in central defence. He should definitely be playing there rather than right back (where Maybury was back to his best tonight) and didn't put a foot wrong all game. Quality defending throughout by both central defenders and on that form we should sign Kenton permanently.

With Southampton about to be relegated they might want to hang on to him.

Edited because I can't spell Suothhhamptun ;)

Agree 100%. This back-four could be one for years to come, with Stearman in reserve. It could evolve in to one that is even good enough for the Premier League.

I can only echo what's being said about the back four. Kenton was excellent tonight.

Stewart was caught out a few times by Reich in the game, but overall enjoyed a decent performance. He provided that width we had been lacking down the left. His crossing is a bit better now, I think Levein's been working on his final ball.

And shock horror: We actually defended corners well. :o

I agree, we weren't really tested though. I though Kenton's heading was a bit suspect because he is only 5'11 sort of size. Definitley looks better as a centre half compared with a full back though.

Dublin not marshalling the defence? Coincidence?

He will have been from corners, I will say that.

Dion at the back is class.

No one else in our team comminicates anywhere as near as well as him.

He seems to spend more time commincating than actually defending. Ive steered clear of the dublin bandwagon, with my main reason being he marshalls the defence and yet it is a shambles most weeks, he has to get the credit for that. Id be surprised if while playing up front he then suddenly took over the defence for corners. I dont think he will be here next year, he will be 37 this time next year. Look at Les at Bolton/Reading, everyone wanted him for 1 more year but he is not doing it, dion looked knackered by the 70th minute. Next season it will be the 60th minute, not what we need IMO.

I felt sorry for dion, when CL reserved hughes and left dion on. Dion kept looking over to CL, giving him big puppy eyes, hoping to taken off,

Easy to use the Les Ferdinand argument but look at Teddy Sheringham.

Dion is a must for next season - hes a legend! The jury is still out on Kenton for me.

99387[/snapback]

I'll second that. Dion is worth another year in my opinion and if he'd stayed up front alongside Connolly all season he'd be on 10-15 goals. Although he didn't score last night he looked dangerous and if he'd been given some of the chance de Vries has had he'd have buried them. Solid at the back and upfront, could do worse Dublin.

Kenton looked better, but he isn't better than Maybiry or Stearman at right back and I can't see him playing centre half permanently because of his height. He only played there last night because of Derby's lack of height upfront.

Who's that?

Kenton is a rubbish fullback. Last night, he impressed me as a centre-back and I think that position suits his game more (he doesn't have to get up the wings and support the play). He is still prone to odd mistake (I remember one wayward pass that almost caused us big problems) but looked excellent last night.

Mind you, it helped the defence having a midfield that dominated last night. Would be interesting to see how they faired behind a weak midfield when they would have to withstand an onslaught.

That's true to a certain extent.

However, you don't get many teams playing with two targetman, so as long as Kenton has McCarthy or Dublin partnering him, they can deal with any height issues. Like Mad Frank, Kenton has a good leap on him.

I don't think we would be able to sign him even if we wanted to. Southhampton are going down and they will be losing Davenport, who is only on loan, and Lundekvham who is supossed to be retiring. They would be stupid not to hang onto Kenton in the Championship.

He did look far better at centre back and his height is not a problem as he has a good leap on him and is a very good athlete. Th defence looked better for being more balanced, two proper full backs playing on the correct side.

I actually thought that he was okay at times early on in the season, hasn't had a look in since the 5-1 Spurs hammering when he and Claus decided to swap the strikers that they were meant to be marking.

If Harry is still here next season, he'll definately go to you permanently.

Think his times up here. So he's yours, especially if Harry is still here.
I think his best position in the Prem is in a back three. If we stay up, he'll be out. If we go down and Harry remains in charge, he is likely to go. If we go down and Harry leaves, we might keep him.

Lets hope Harry stays on then... on the other hand a few critisms

Had some decent games for us as well but on the whole he is a bit clueless. Two short to play at CB and offers nothing going forward at right back (might be OK in the championship but not in the top flight). He likes to give attackers a two yard start so he can slide tackle for some reason. Genuine but just not good enough at this level. Please take him off our hands (unless we god down of course then all bets are off).
Has pace in abundance but is a dozy bastard in that he seems to daydream and then rely on his pace to get him out of trouble.  Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.  Also, he does tend to just trash through players rather than just stay on his feet and gives penalties away as a result.  he's done it 3 times already this season as far as I know, once for Saints v Arsenal, once for the Reserves and once for Leicester at Blackburn.

Also, he's not a kid any more, he's 27ish so you wonder if he's ever going to be good enough to be quite honest
