Football Shirt Culture

Extensive research was conducted by The FA with different groups before the design changes were undertaken in-house. The aim was to establish what ‘The FA’ and ‘England’ represent in people’s lives, and to gain a greater insight into the sense of national identity the ‘Three Lions’ can deliver.

The FA’s Group Commercial Director, Jonathan Hill, commented: “We have taken great care in updating The FA’s ‘Three Lions’ Crest.

It's the Tudor Rose. When Henry VII came into power it ended the war between the House of Lancaster and the House of York. Their symbols were the red and the white rose respectively, hence the combined Tudor Rose

It's used a lot in heraldry

pretty meaningful considering theyve changed the colour slightly

We have taken great care in updating The FA’s ‘Three Lions’ Crest.

probably decided they didnt have any more ideas on how to change it without completely pissing everyone off and ruining it lol

More important question: How much did they pay the designer(s) for the... ahem... drastic changes?

ha. thinking about the 2012 logo, they probably had a whole new crest designed by designers for a f*** load of money, realised it looked awful and then put it into paint themselves and changed the colour lol job done
