Super Arj Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 Cheltenham Town manager Martin Allen has revealed that all the players at the club have been told they can leave. The Robins are struggling financially but have managed to stave off going into administration. Allen told BBC Radio Gloucestershire: "Last week everybody was told that they're available and can find themselves clubs. "There are certain players we don't want to lose, but that is not all in my hands unfortunately." Allen added: "I've said all along the most important thing is to keep this club going financially. "The chairman Paul Baker has done a marvellous job at the end of last week to get this club out of big trouble. "I have to respect the chairman and the board's situation and protect the future of this football club." Although Baker believes the Robins are facing a brighter financial future, Allen is not convinced their problems are over. "I'm not sure the financial situation is fully out in the open to be honest," he added. "I've said I'll only talk about it at the end of the season." In the last few days Cheltenham have lost their goalkeeping coach Alan Fettis, midfielder Alex Russell and striker Lloyd Owusu - all as cost-cutting measures. They are currently rooted to the bottom of League One, 12 points from safety and without a win in 14 league matches. "I've said on many occasions that you need to strengthen the 11 and if you don't you're going to struggle," added Allen. i really feel bad for clubs who have this happen to them.. football really has turned into a business then.... shame to see
Joe. Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 It's always a sad state of affairs when a club ends up in administrative problems like this. They're already resigned to going down from this division this season, and the way things are going they might even struggle to stay in the football league. Hopefully they can stabalise themselves soon enough.
Samilktray Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 Gained a soft spot for Cheltenham this season, hope they dont get into too much of a mess.
maddog Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 Allens the one whos signed about 20 new players. Its probably his fault He must be wondering what has happened, 1 and a half years ago hes manager of us with a nice stadium and facilities in the Championship, and of course thrashing the championship leaders 4-1, next hes taking Cheltenham down, to League two and must be partly to blame for the financial situation has hes signed so so many players, even though most are on loan they still have to pay legal fees and other monies and part of their wages. Theres no way back for Cheltenham now, theres more chance of us ending up in the playoffs than them staying up, theyve got to win most of their remaining games.
BoneDog Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 Gutted for Cheltenham, I was hoping they'd manage to stay up. I got love for Martin Allen. When he came on the pitch before the Watford match it was class. The man's got passion

In all seriousness, it's sad news for Cheltenham and I always have a soft spot for the underdog, but Allen definitely is to blame for the disaster himself with the numerous players he got on board. How can you establish even only a minimal sense of teamwork when people come and people go on such a regular basis? I still shiver when I think of what he could've done to us, on a slightly larger level with more funds available.
The Stig Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 There's a man who will regret leaving the MK Dons me thinks.

I honestly think that if he had of stayed for the season we might of got the extra point needed for survival. I'm very happy he did get the sack though else we wouldn't of had the man who will one day be a true legend : Nigel Pearson. There's a man who will regret leaving the MK Dons me thinks. Agreed

I see Elvis made the scoresheet TWICE last night. Let's hope that's his quota for the season and he doesn't score against us...

Let's hope that's his quota for the season and he doesn't score against us... You're correct, I have missed 5 home games this season, including tonight (even though I have season ticket). And I have been very disappointed on leaving the Walkers a few times this season. I still think Nigel will earn his stripes thoroughly in the next two years (if allowed). But I have to say I'm mystified by some of his selections of late. I only go on his personality and the strength he seems to portray. I think the man has great potential, he aint been no joke at all in his managerial career. And he's still a learner.
CosbehFox Posted 4 March 2009 Posted 4 March 2009 Allen was the fella who completely blew their wage structure up and brought in 19 loanees too. Probably ended up minus pts next season too.

Allen's a loose canon, he maybe a great motivator, but if you give him a free reign at any club thses are the consequences.......anyway I hope there in even more turmiol atleast until after we've played them!!
