shen Posted 27 April 2005 Posted 27 April 2005 It's all about who's going to get a contract for next season, so we need to see the likes of:        Walker Canero Kenton Stearman Stewart Gemmil Gudjohnsson Nalis Gillespie       Moore Dublin And why not put a couple of youngsters on the bench. 99577 Can you explain the logic of this suggestion? 99592 The mere facts that Gillespie is put on the left, Gemmill on the right, Canero at rightback and Stearman in central defense, while Hughes, McCarthy and Connolly are all left out in FNQ's squad is a quite clear indication of his understanding of football and his observation of CL's previous team selections <_< if indeed it was all about a contract for next season, why would Canero, Stewart, Joey and Stearman play? Especially when Dabizas, Wilcox and Dawson are out of contract too... ? 99601 Gillespie has played on the left for us several times before. Canero is a right back (do you mean he is injured?). I've been told Stearmans best posistion is centreback. I thought Joey's contract was up. Obviously Adams didn't just sign players on 1 year deals. I think CL has already decided on Dabizas and Wilcox. I had no idea about Dawsons contractual posistion. Sorry. 99696 You're right, Canero is a rightback/fullback, but has he featured under Levein? Not really ey.. And Stearmans best position is indeed centreback, but Levein has publicly said he won't play him there yet, so he would play rightback if anything (thus pushing Canero down the pecking order). Why he would play Gillespie on the left instead of Wilcox, Tiatto or even Hughes I don't know, you tell me. But if you think CL has made his mind up about Greasy and Wilcox, what makes you think he hasn't made his mind up about Gemmill and Canero too? So to sum up my feelings, I'm going to echo davieg: "what is the logical explanation of your selection?"

IMO Levein should be looking at who he is going to offer a contract to, i.e. Gemmil, Nalis, Gillespie, Kenton, Moore, Dublin, Walker

Gemmil hasn't played for weeks, Nalis has been in and out of the team, are Dublin and Gillespie fit enough to play 3 games in a row? So do you think he has decided whether all these players deserve a contract?
Nationwider Posted 27 April 2005 Posted 27 April 2005 I think CL owes it to the fans to try to win the last home game of the season, so with this in mind, I'd like to see him go for: Hirschfeld Maybury - Kenton - McCarthy - Stewart Gillespie - Nalis - Williams - Hughes Connolly - Dublin Subs: Logan, Stearman, Dabizas, Dawson, Moore. When we've got the cigars out at 4-0 after an hour, bring off Nalis to a standing ovation, along with Kenton and Dublin, and throw on Stearman, Moore and Dawson for a run out.
Nationwider Posted 27 April 2005 Posted 27 April 2005 So do you think he has decided whether all these players deserve a contract? 99712 From a talent point of view, he will for sure. What's he going to learn in two matches that he hasn't seen in 40-odd reserve and first team games and 6 months of training? The problems with players stalling over contracts, haggling over new players, working out what to do with Williams etc will be more of a concern to him. He might want to see how one or two young 'uns handle themselves, but as for the rest...nah, he'll know what he wants to do.

Anish Posted 27 April 2005 Posted 27 April 2005 lars hirchfieldstewart macarthy stearman maybury tiatto hughes williams dunno connally moore 99752 When did we sign him?
Chimp Posted 27 April 2005 Posted 27 April 2005 Okay, if Tiatto isn't suspended then I think we'll go with the same team that beat Derby... Walker Maybury - Kenton - McCarthy - Stewart Hughes - Nalis - Williams - Tiatto Connolly - Dublin ...I think CL will view it important that we end the last home game of the season with a win. Some of the youngsters may come on for the second half but I think a win will be his priority.
step Posted 27 April 2005 Posted 27 April 2005 I hope he dont sucrifice a win for the sake of trying out loads of neebies, it wont do them nor the youngsters any favours if we lose because of them IMO he should only bring on one or two youngsters if we are winning and crusing,
Bert Posted 28 April 2005 Posted 28 April 2005 Gk: Walker Rb: Maybury Lb: Stewart Cb: McCarthy Cb: Kenton Rw: Hughes Lw: Tiatto Cm: Williams Cm: Nalis Cf: Connolly Cf: Dublin Subs: Stearman, Dawson, Sheehan, Moore, Hirschfeld Same team that started against Derby for me, "why fix it if it aint broken?" i mean after the performance against Derby, you'd be pretty p####d off if you were dropped for the final home game od the season wouldn't you?
Tommy Posted 28 April 2005 Posted 28 April 2005 Hirschfeld, to see how he goes, what he is really like, ive seen him in training but that is a totally different environment to a match one Stewart McCarthy Kenton Stearman, deserves another run out Gillespie Dawson, come on CL give the young kid a chance Hughes Tiatto Connolly Dublin Walker, Porter, Wright, Sheehan, Maybury

Louise Posted 29 April 2005 Posted 29 April 2005 Walker Stearman (if he's not injured) Dublin McCarthy Stewart Gillespie (playing for a new contract) Hughes (in the middle!) Dawson Tiatto Moore Connolly Subs: Hirschfeld (if fit) Sheehan (to come on in the second half) Dodds (to come on in the second half) Wright (for one last chance?) Kenton I know that team lacks midfield options on the bench but Tiatto could push into the middle and Stewart up onto the wing if needed. Up front it's two small men, I can't really see a way around this as Connolly is on fire at the moment and Moore needs chance to impress. Edited because I completely forgot Maybury On the right if Stearman is injured, otherwise on the bench instead of Kenton. We already know what he can do and how well he can play. It's kinda hard finding a balance between young players and regulars, it feels a bit harsh leaving Williams and Nalis out too but I really want to see some of the youngsters.

davieG Posted 30 April 2005 Posted 30 April 2005 Don't think there will be many surprises: Levein will save any experimentation for the final game and said: "It will be not far away from the same team (against Leeds) because I want to win the match.
Knighton Matt Posted 30 April 2005 Posted 30 April 2005 i read in the mercury yesterday that big craig was keen to give sheehan a chance possibly off the bench. no mention of dawson though
Mark Posted 30 April 2005 Posted 30 April 2005 Don't think there will be many surprises:Levein will save any experimentation for the final game and said: "It will be not far away from the same team (against Leeds) because I want to win the match. 100967 Why say this then CRAIG There are a couple of younger lads who are doing reasonably well in the reserves who, if we could manage to pick up some points quickly, we wouldgive a go. But we have to get the points first before we start thinking about that. He didn't mean Stefan Moore in that quote, because he's done absolutely nothing for the Reserves, O'Grady deserves more of a chance than him, but forget that. Dawson and Stearman deserve starts and Sheehan/Porter/O'Grady/Dodds any one of them should get a sub appearance at the very least.
Knighton Matt Posted 30 April 2005 Posted 30 April 2005 The basis of Leicester City's team plans for next season will be virtually in place by the time they travel to Plymouth a week tomorrow. Manager Craig Levein will hold top-level financial meetings next week regarding his out-of-contract players. They include the international trio of Ian Walker, Nikos Dabizas and Keith Gillespie, plus Dion Dublin, Lilian Nalis, Jason Wilcox, Tommy Wright, Scot Gemmill and Nathan Blake. Any new-deal offers that Levein decides on will be made before the trip to the south west. On contracts, Levein said: "That is something I am looking at and I will have a meeting about everything that affects the budget. "Once I get firmer figures, I will be in a better position to decide. "It might be that I offer players already here new contracts on less money and they might turn it down. Either way, within the next week I will have made everybody aware of what is happening. "Looking at finances is something I have done before at Hearts when I had to cut costs and it is a question of using the money wisely. Obviously, I would prefer not to have to do this, but we will still be competitive. "In terms of who goes and who stays, I have an outline of what I want to do, but there are still opportunities for people to change my mind." A first chance for those hoping to impress comes tomorrow when Leeds arrive at the Walkers Stadium (1.30pm) - and City's hopes of a similarly good display after Derby are likely to rest on a similar line-up. Levein will save any experimentation for the final game and said: "It will be not far away from the same team (against Leeds) because I want to win the match. "We got a boost to season-ticket sales after Tuesday and we would like to send our supporters away for the summer with smiles on their faces." Levein is also dispensing with the usual habit of an extra week's wind-down following the final game. "I am not one for having people hang around after the season has ended. "We will leave right after Plymouth and everything will be done before then with regard to next season." Another thing I don't understand: Are the three highlighted statements not contradicting each other massively? so basically decisions are to be made pre plymouth and people still have the chance to impress but our only game pre plymouth is leeds where not many changes are to be made? what on earth is he talking about?! article from http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/
