Brenfox Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 Is Zavvi in town still open or has it changed to something else?

Matt Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 Has it not just merged with Virgin Media/Virgin, I know Zavvi did have outlets inside Virgin shops, tended to be the Virgin Megastore shops though I think. I'm not sure, but think I heard something about that, I'm in shopfitting and we do all the Virgin Media shops, and I heard something about Zavvi were keeping some of their staff so they can just put them in shops when they open to save money on retraining people as managers, e.t.c, in the shops. As for Zavvi as an independent shop I think they have all been closed.
The Reverend Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 The big one in Leicester is closed and has been for about a month.
cisono Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 I'm in shopfitting ... Not sure why, but I first read this as "shopLIFting"
JakeShingler Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 Not sure why, but I first read this as "shopLIFting" haha so did i.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 16 March 2009 Posted 16 March 2009 They went into administration around Christmas time. They didn't find a buyer (although HMV have bought some of the stores) so have officially gone tits up
Leicfox Posted 16 March 2009 Posted 16 March 2009 Yeah it has, we had one in Blackpool. It only opened for 2 weeks then it closed down. Why open a new store like that when they oblivously knew it was going into admin.

As for Zavvi as an independent shop I think they have all been closed. It was Virgin Megastores but Virgin sold it in 2007 and that's when it changed to Zavvi. Part of the deal was that Virgin Media could have small outlets in the stores where they could sell their products. When Zavvi went into administration some of the stores were taken over by HMV and are currently being converted, while others were bought by Head Entertainment. About half are closing down (including the one in Leicester).
Fox92 Posted 16 March 2009 Posted 16 March 2009 It has shut altogether hasn't it because they went into administration and closed?? It used to be Virgin Megastore but Richard Branson sold it on and the new owner named it 'Zaavi' instead of Virgin Megastore. But it has completely closed I think. ____ The one in Meadowhall went ages ago.
Flynny Posted 16 March 2009 Posted 16 March 2009 Two still open in Bristol last I checked, about 300 yards from each other. Not much stock left though.

Not in Leicester though. When Zavvi went into administration some of the stores were taken over by HMV and are currently being converted, while others were bought by Head Entertainment. Matt Posted 16 March 2009 Posted 16 March 2009 Not sure why, but I first read this as "shopLIFting" Everyone does, Including me sometimes! Whenever I see it on a van I always read it as that.
MikeyT Posted 19 March 2009 Posted 19 March 2009 Used to work there for 3 years full time. Bye Bye Virgin/Zavvi!
Fox92 Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 It's open on the internet again. Don't know if any shops are open but it is on the web
Alexikokopops Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 It's open on the internet again.Don't know if any shops are open but it is on the web Some of the shops were bought by HMV, some were bought by Head Entertainment (a company set up in February by the former managing director of Zavvi) and the rest were closed. The ones that were bought will reopen but as HMV/Head Entertainment stores. The Hut Group announced that they bought the Zavvi website just over three weeks ago and it was relaunched then.
