BedsFox Posted 17 March 2009 Posted 17 March 2009 In a small fulfillment of an ambition I got through to Danny Baker's 606 tonight, the only 606 I still listen to because I like Baker as a broadcaster, a funny programme..offbeat and eccentric. I recounted the tale of Derby-Leicester in April 1998, we're four nil up after 15 minutes that Sunday lunchtime on Sky and I'm sitting, courtesy of my ex-wife's Derby season ticket holding family, in the middle of the home end I managed to sit on my hands through all four goals, but began to attract attention as an unknown amongst regulars, for not chanitng and generally slagging off either team. Derby for being crap that day and Leicester for being Leicester. So at that point I start shouting out at Robbie Savage, which strangely wasn't too difficult to do even when he was a Lecicster player to appear more convincing It remains, the result, the occasion, the style of victory one of my sweetest moments as a Leicester fan. Sitting on my hands through all four goals!!
Fez of Mahrez Posted 17 March 2009 Posted 17 March 2009 Fantastic, I listen to it every week and that was great to hear! Good work chap!!! PS I was in the Leicester end and went ****ing bananas for each one. ;)
lildave3 Posted 17 March 2009 Posted 17 March 2009 My old man was in the Derby end too, right next to the Leicester fans. He says for the first goal he was silent, but as more goals went in the more people left and when the 4th went in they cheered anyway. Turns out the only people left near him were Notts County fans
Finchy Posted 18 March 2009 Posted 18 March 2009 Were there loads of City fans in the home section for that game then? Because my mum got me and my dad the tickets for that game, unfortunately she got them from Pride Park thinking it didn't matter And me being 7 I didn't realise what trouble cheering could get you into if you were in the wrong section, so yeah cheered for the first 2 goals and some Derby fans behind us threatened to kill my Dad. Which was a pretty scary experience for me but they'd left by half time

Corky Posted 18 March 2009 Posted 18 March 2009 Danny Baker is THE phone-in host. Alan Green I don't mind, Lovejoy and Spoony are poor, but none comapre to Danny Baker. It's better hearing amusing different stories from fans, rather than *insert big 4 team name here* fans from hundreds of miles away whinging because they didn't win 5-0 or they only drew a tough away match.

Corky Posted 18 March 2009 Posted 18 March 2009 Alan Green is an idiot! I don't mind him, he knows his stuff and has an opinion which he's not afraid to say. I can see why he is disliked though, he can be controversial.

Corky Posted 18 March 2009 Posted 18 March 2009 He's just a pig headed tit But who would you rather have? Jon Barber?
Katy Posted 18 March 2009 Posted 18 March 2009 But who would you rather have? Jon Barber? He wouldn't get as far as tea boy on Radio 5, no offence to tea boys.

Pretty much agree Danny Baker is great. Don't mind Stevie Claridge when he does it or Chappers (but neither seem to have done it for a while) either.
iancognito Posted 19 March 2009 Posted 19 March 2009 I'd actually emailed in about the scoreline and then Beds stole my thunder by ringing in too. To be fair, I didn't sit in the Derby end and had no story even like as funny so the better man got picked out. Danny Baker is the king of phone in shows though. His rants about Chelsea and Rafa Benitez are spot on and he makes it interesting every week, not just Dave the United fan from Guildford moaning about how Man U "should be 15 points clear by now" and "what is Ferguson playing at?" etc etc

Sitting on my hands through all four goals!! Just lsitened to that show (via podcast). Great call mate and that game was amazing! Dany Baker's Pirate Ship is brilliant, listen every week. Though I think it does well as a contrast to the other phone-ins as they concentrate on reaction to games played that weekend/day. Loving his Totaliterian league, has anyone submitted Leicester as a team and if so/not what could we offer?
Katy Posted 19 March 2009 Posted 19 March 2009 Danny Baker is tosh, Lovejoy is miles better . Woooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Wash yer mouth out!

I listened to it yesterday on teh podcast, love it.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 7 April 2009 Posted 7 April 2009 Apparently he read my email out tonight about the Jamaican eco-warrior centre-back. I always wait for the podcast. Awesome. That's one of my lifetime ambitions ticked off.
act smiley Posted 7 April 2009 Posted 7 April 2009 Frankly I don't even need to hear the email being read to know how much solid gold that must be.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 7 April 2009 Posted 7 April 2009 Frankly I don't even need to hear the email being read to know how much solid gold that must be. I reckon I've probably posted it on here before, back in the dim and distant past. I'll have a search.
