Tigers' £100million plan gets go-ahead

I agree with the residents saying that they should have built something like an Ice Rink/Snow Dome (Like Tamworth and Coventry) or something that is more designed to take the kids off of the Streets... there just isn't anything like that in Leicester, which is a real shame.

"Some residents have said that the development should have included a community facility for young people, such as an ice rink."... Hardly essential?!

Fair play to tigers though, 4* hotel

That stadium will look absolutely quality when it's all finished.

Waste of money (hotel and office block)!! There's no industry in Leicester, i feel it will be like the many other office blocks....pretty empty!!

Given that it's about 200 yards from the cinema I'm not sure there was a hugely pressing need to put in some other tacky amusement. Tamworth snow dome was probably a multi million pound project in itself, the suggestion of an "ice rink" would have been something about as impressive as the temporary one over Christmas. The novelty would wear off and you'd hardly be appealing to the desired demographic if you're aiming to get kidz of the streetz.

Doubt they will put any sports things there - as Granby Halls was pulled down because it was shit (and full of asbestos, cough, cough pun intended)

A multi storey car park there would go down very well.

While they're at it can you put a fcking footbridge over Welford Road??? The number of times I've risked my life jaywalking across it on the way to the game!

The ice rink would be a nice idea, if they were to put a community feature into this plan.

Also this could mean that Leicester would have a Ice Hockey team which would be sweet!

I think it is a bit of a piss take that we have to travel to Cov or Posh if we want to have a skate, it's bloomin miles away!

They're not going to make any major changes now it's been approved as it stands.

Possibly the scariest but funniest thing ever, when me Ched and a few of the others go to cross I just peg across. Birmingham Away in Pre Season was bad, some Volvo nearly clipped me.

by the same token, if you wanted to visit leicester and stay in a 4* hotel, would you want to stay on a peninsular in the middle of 6 lanes of traffic, miles from the city centre...

when they say they are not doing to make millions, they are certainly expecting it...for all the regeneration in leicester, the thing that has been the biggest fail has been 'student accommodation' - which seems to be a licence to print money for DMU, obviously the tigers want a sniff, being so close to both uni's an' all.

Yet everysingle building constructed for this use has been an eysore of middle-eastern proportions.

I disagree the novelty would wear off, you only have to look at the Ice Rink in Nottingham,Coventry & Tamworth to show how popular they are. Coventry Blaze are a fairly new team, and there is no reason why Leicester couldn't also have an Ice Hockey team...We certainly don't need another hotel.

Kids need more activity, they need to get out more. You only have to look at the obesity problems with kids, to know that it is lack of activities and more sat around on the Internet and going places like cinemas.

Provided they don't sell loads of obesity inducing foods at these venues, which I suspect they do.

which is 31 miles from leicester, as opposed to coventry which is 23 miles... much more convenient

These developments will add to the parking issues in the area.

The question was asked about what would happen if/when Tigers and City were both at home, and the reply was that the safety group had sorted it so they couldn't play on the same day.

So we'll have to put up with fixture disruption for the foreseeable future. :(

I understand they waived their own planning rules to allow this to go ahead.

The problem with councils deciding these things is that they have a vested interest in picking the development that gives them most income (council/business tax) against providing services as opposed to the one that provides the best for the people of Leicester.

They also seem to have any extremely soft accommodating spot for the Tigers & DMU.

Let's hope they make specific use of the proceeds from the car park sale to provide real, appropriate and well located leisure facilities.

The council are DMU's bitches.

is that Wilmott arse back in control, he's a parasite, vile little bog-eyed twat; he has singlehandedly uglified leicester with his smug, self-intereested arrogance and ignorance.

I thought exactly the same thing when i went to Leicester, hence the amount of youths on the street drinking.

Except you can get a direct train from Leicester to Nottingham. You have to change at Nuneaton if you're going to Coventry, and quite often on a Saturday they have a bus replacement service between Nuneaton and Coventry via Bedworth.
