Fosse Boy Posted 19 March 2009 Posted 19 March 2009 I've always liked this one at Goodison. Huge and has a bit of culture to it. I've sat in the top tier of that stand.
Koke Posted 19 March 2009 Posted 19 March 2009 Yea I am going to do it. It is the best footballing stand I have ever been in by far. Beautiful. I went there with Heskey's older brother several years ago on a CL night against AS Roma. It was an immense atmosphere.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 19 March 2009 Posted 19 March 2009 Favourite in England are roofed terraces, like the sadly departed Layer Road, the sadly departing Ninian Park and the sexily forthcoming London Road.

Fez of Mahrez Posted 19 March 2009 Posted 19 March 2009 Forgot to mention that the PDP did look electric against Marseille. It is an incredible place. Can't really comment on the Velodrome although some of the photos obviously look amazing. Never been that impressed when I've seen them on TV but then they always seem to be losing 1-0 to English teams when I see them. The Mestalla is meant to be one of the best atmospheres in Europe and closes at the end of the season.

It didn't look like there was one part of the ground that wasn't lit up or jumping.
Uncle Albert Posted 19 March 2009 Posted 19 March 2009 I went there with Heskey's older brother several years ago on a CL night against AS Roma. It was an immense atmosphere. Ah I remember the game, Houllier's first game on the bench after his heart operation if I remember rightly. Heskey scored in a 2-1 win aswell I think?
C-man Posted 19 March 2009 Author Posted 19 March 2009 The Auteuil end at the Parc des Princes Yes! I knew sooner or later you'd post some quality pics of that stand in here! I've always liked this one at Goodison. Huge and has a bit of culture to it. Yeah, There's an Everton fan at uni who says that being on the front row of the top tier when its bouncing is terrifying! The Mestalla is meant to be one of the best atmospheres in Europe and closes at the end of the season. Why is it closing? Debt of Valencia?
purpleronnie Posted 19 March 2009 Posted 19 March 2009 Favourite one I've been too:- Quest Field Seattle:-
Fez of Mahrez Posted 19 March 2009 Posted 19 March 2009 It didn't look like there was one part of the ground that wasn't lit up or jumping. I was kind of distracted by the way Marseille completely outplayed us and deservedly won but it's not surprising to hear. They were losing 1-0 to Toulouse in a run-of-the-mill league game when me and Alex went and it was still like they were in the process of winning the Champions League. Kind of depressing to come back to English football after that sort of experience but then there's nothing that can match seeing your actual team (i.e. Leicester ) score an important goal. Hopefully going to the Nou Camp before the end of the season. Never looks particularly amazing on TV but might be different in the flesh for an important game, we'll see. Dortmund is the ultimate I agree. Looks unbelievable.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 19 March 2009 Posted 19 March 2009 Dortmund is the ultimate I agree. Looks unbelievable. Chuffed to say I've been. Absolutely unbelievable.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 19 March 2009 Posted 19 March 2009 Why is it closing? Debt of Valencia? New ground.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 19 March 2009 Posted 19 March 2009 Chuffed to say I've been. Absolutely unbelievable. Wow, nice. Take it you didn't manage to get in that stand though? Bet it's even better to be elsewhere looking at it in a way. What game?
C-man Posted 19 March 2009 Author Posted 19 March 2009 New ground. Looks special. For some reason it reminds me of the plans City had on our new stadium when the idea was to move to Beaumont Leys. Obviously on a bigger scale. Shame to see another old, atmospheric ground go though.
Samilktray Posted 19 March 2009 Posted 19 March 2009 Bit risky from Valencia moving grounds, what with there cash problems at the minute.
Uncle Albert Posted 19 March 2009 Posted 19 March 2009 I really want to go to the Bernabeu and the Stade De France, then I can say I have been to the European grounds I want to have been. I have been to the Phillips Stadium and that was amazing and the Camp Nou (only stadium tour). The Phillips Stadium was easily the better of the two and I would definetly go again. Class.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 19 March 2009 Posted 19 March 2009 What game? December 2006. God, time passes quickly. Beat Wolfsburg 1-0, Ebi Smolarek scored last minute after dominating the entire game. Never, ever seen anything like it in my life.
Father Ted Posted 19 March 2009 Posted 19 March 2009 Ah I remember the game, Houllier's first game on the bench after his heart operation if I remember rightly. Heskey scored in a 2-1 win aswell I think? I swear your a bloody Liverpool fan!!

Darkzzz_ Posted 19 March 2009 Posted 19 March 2009 Milan derby is where it's at, I must admit, the one I went to was hands down the best atmosphere I have witnessed, Yes even better than Barcelona.
Lillehamring Posted 19 March 2009 Posted 19 March 2009 i wouldn't say they are particularly special, but here is an interesting thread about the stadiums we get to enjoy over here, as you can see many very english type grounds, yet quite a few seem to be on their way out... meanwhile, this is where i might be enjoying my home games soon
Fez of Mahrez Posted 19 March 2009 Posted 19 March 2009 Milan derby is where it's at, I must admit, the one I went to was hands down the best atmosphere I have witnessed, Yes even better than Barcelona. Sure that wasn't taken away at Norwich last season?

I'd love to see a game in Italy but must admit I'm afraid of the nutters. Think I read somewhere that during a Atalanta / Roma match some fans set a motorised scooter on fire and threw it from the upper tier onto the opposition fans below. Not sure about the teams involved (might have been Lazio), but pretty sure about the incident.
