Dr The Singh Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 Anyone been to the one in the Highcross? What's it like, is it good value... or is it expensive shite? Only ever went there once and that was about 6 years ago in it's old location. The food was ok!!!
Babylon Posted 26 March 2009 Author Posted 26 March 2009 Not the glowing report I was hoping for.... i'm bored of the others there now. Anyone been to Real China?

Bellend Sebastian Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 Not been in since it moved into the Highcross. I always thought the food was good but on the expensive side. They got torn apart on their last council hygiene inspection, which surprised me edit: I'm talking about Mem Saab, by the way
Edmund Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 If were talking chinese restaurants look no further than the "water margin". It's on the same road as hmv. Has a quality dim sum menu. You know it's the best in Leicester when your the only non Oriental person eating in there at lunch times.
hairy Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 Feast India rules. Good food and as much as you can eat for £15. India, pizza, noodles and of course that traditional eastern food - chips.

Dr The Singh Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 I know I like it there... has to be town though unfortunately. Feast India, is quite average if you ask me, non of the food really has any real taste, the tandoored dishess compared to the Sportsman in west brom taste like shit, the dosa's etc or good, but for £15, FOGGS in Birmingham wipes the floor with it!!!

If I want a good curry it's well down the list... if I feel like a fat b****** and just want to nibble on loads of bits and bobs then i'll go there. Like you say, some of it is tasteless and you have to pick the right stuff. Dosa's hmmmmmmmm. God I'm starving now... grrrrrrrr.

Babylon Posted 1 April 2009 Author Posted 1 April 2009 Well I went... my thoughts are a bit mixed really. Negatives: • A bit on the expensive side compared to most indian restaurants. • A bit to pretentious for my liking. • Limited menu, no Keema rice to be seen!!! • Charged for 3 Popadoms when we only had two. • Charged £1.50 for a pickle tray that we didn't even order. They brought it over so presumed it was free like most Indian restaurants. Positives: • Nice place with a view over the Highcross. • Quick service. • Friendly waiters... although it was bordering on annoying.I just wanted to eat my food but they wouldn't leave you alone, coming over to ask how everything is every 2 minutes. The biggest positive though was how good they were with my Mrs. She ordered a curry and it was far too hot for her (she ordered it hot, so it was her own fault). I asked if they could just add a bit of yoghurt to cool it down... they didn't. They cooked her a completely fresh curry, fresh rice and fresh naan bread. The rice and naan had pretty much already been eaten, so it was like getting a free rice and naan bread.
fox123 Posted 1 April 2009 Posted 1 April 2009 The best Indian restaurant I have found in Leicester is Swatlands. Ambience is superb, the food is truly awesome and so fresh. I have been to both Swatlands, Oadby (apparently this is Engelbert Humperdink's favourite Indian) and Glenfield (I prefer this one). Edit to say: I really, really can't recommend it enough!
Vardinhio Posted 1 April 2009 Posted 1 April 2009 been to the one in Nottingham, really nice but overpriced
The People's Hero Posted 1 April 2009 Posted 1 April 2009 If anyone wants to open a decent Indian restaurant, do it in Maidstone. They are all sh it round here.

I wont be going again. Didn't particularly like the food either. Nothing special.

But seriously though, there's no such thing as a fresh curry, the gravy\curry in restaurants, it's all pre prepared, i presume the sweet rapper must be one of the ingredients used to prepare the curry, who knows!!!! It could have been worse, I went to and had a curry at the 5 star Radisson in jalandhar, I ordered chips and they were cold, so I sent them back and gues what, they re-fried the same chips.......foooking poooonjabi's can't even make some decent chips!!!

In Oadby, the best Indian is Leeja Palace. Since they know me quite well they also throw in a couple of freebies when I pick up a takeaway from there too.
