Torrents Problem

You guys should be careful using public trackers like piratebay and mininova. Are you using peer guardian to mask your IP address?

I would if I knew how! I tried to do the forward port thing aswell but couldn't get access to my own frickin BT hub. It says the admin password is not recognized :dunno:

Premium account? I used to have a premium account

Yeah lol

I got 10000 points so I can get 1 month free.

I get rapidshare links

plop them all into here http://www.rapidshoot.com/

That converts them to premium account links

I right click and download with "Downthemall"

Works a treat.

Explain more...

Public trackers are open to everyone including those who like to protect their copyright. Last year developers of a pinball game on the Wii and DS tracked those who grabbed it on public trackers. They can do this by looking at the IP addresses, even you can do this by looking at the list of peers on your client. They can then force your ISP to send letters etc.

Perr Guardian masks your IP and blocks any IP know to be used by 'The Man'. You have to keep it up to date for it to work properly.

By far the easiest solution is not to use public trackers. Private trackers block the use of their sites by using the know list of 'The Mans' IP.

Does that make sense?

Dont use it myself as I only use private trackers.

Ah, gotcha! Are private trackers free?

Does my IP change every time I restart my pc? I thought it did, but do they still know who's IP it was even if it's a couple of months old and it has changed since?

I sometimes go on IP Chicken and my address changes :dunno:

Yes. They are free but yu usually have to maintain a share ratio.

How much do you have to share? All my stuff's on my external harddrive which I don't have connected all the time. Sorry to bombard you with questions!

I think its your router rather than your computer unless you have a static IP from your service provider for remote access.

The numbers in the IP address tell them who the ISP is and from there they leave the searching to your ISP.

Sorry if I have alarmed anyone. The chances of get caught are very slim and they usually only go after the people who originally upload the torrents. If you do get caught then you would get warning letters before anything happens so you just change your ISP.

Sorry for being thick but what is ISP?! It's good that they send you a letter first!

The questions are not a problem although the flod control is a little annoying.

You would have to share what you have downloaded. Sites like you to share 1:1 i.e. if you d/l 1G they want you to keep the torrent open until you have u/l 1G on that torrent but usually you dont get banned unless you fall below 0.5 depending on how many gigs you have grabbed.

Heres an example

Download (up to) Required Ratio

5 GB none

15 GB 0.15

30 GB 0.25

» 45 GB 0.30

60 GB 0.35

100 GB 0.40

125 GB 0.45

>125 GB 0.50

Thank you very much hairy. Hero. I have two final questions:

1) To be proper safe my options are to either download Peer Guardian (if I keep using Pirate Bay) or use a private tracker site, right?

2) What private sites do you recommend?

Good Lord that's quite the list! I'm guessing I have to register if I want to use them?

You've been ever so helpful Hairy, I feel I'm prepared to enter the big wide world of torrents now.

>125 GB 0.50

Is that waffles? (cheers again for the invite you sorted me)

I like music and films. I am 5'10", blue eyes, lank dark hair and a fixation for pizza & beer. I would like to accept invites to wife-swap meets, car-boot sales and private torrent sites. I have a big drive. x

Will you stick your 'drive' in my 'front garden'?

If you think you can accommodate my bandwidth.

No probs, I love a bit of LARGE COCK. IN MY BUM.

I think I meant 'broadband'. I'm not very good at this.
