Nice touch with the thread title, davieG(?).

Very sad news, I'd like to echo a lot of the sentiments in this thread. I know all Leicester fans will respect the silence if it happens as I hope Leeds do as well. Lets hope the players show the same unquestioned commitment Derek did during his fantastic support for Leicester City.

Leeds fan here in peace, I'd like to add my condolences to those of foxes fans for the family of the gentleman who passed. We know about losing fans, and I, along with all my mates coming to the game, will be respecting the minutes silence come monday. The idea of going to ER and never returning is beyond my comprehension, and i can understand what a loss this must be for both the family, and for the club-loyal supporters are hard to find, and are precious when you have them.

Once again my condolences, and hopefully on monday we'll show you Leeds United on our best behaviour.

Well said. :welcome: I hope all the Leeds fans show as much respect as you.

I'm confident some Leeds fans would make every effort to disrupt a minutes silence. I just hope that if they do, our fans will have the sense to - silently - show them the contempt they deserve by completely ignoring them, rather than reacting and exacerbating the situation. :/

Very sad news, my deepest sympathies go to all his family.

Let's win the league for Derek.

Wonder if the players will wear black arm bands at the weekend? Think that would be a nice tribute along with the minute's silence/applause.

May I add my deepest sympathy to all of the lad’s family and friends, I for one will be observing any minutes silence or applause whichever you decide on. The death of one of our own shows how unimportant the actual football is and that banter is just that and should play no part when a supporter’s life has been lost. I ask you also to respect ours, Chris and Kev’s death hurt a lot of people at ER and when we hear Turkey chants etc its like an arrow through the heart. Please have this in mind the next time you see or hear any of your fans doing this, football banter about a supporter’s death should NEVER be part of the game. RIP lad and lets put our rivalry aside for 60 seconds on Monday MOT

Hopefully there will be 30,000 fans inside the stadium on Monday. No doubt there will be a few, from both Clubs, who will let themselves down. Ignore them, and don't get wound up by them. Not sure if there's a minute silence planned. If not, perhaps those wanting to show their respect could simply turn towards the East stand (that's the stand to your left Leeds fans), or, if in the East stand, turn towards where Derek was sitting (towards the back, half way between the half way line and the Goal at the kop end), and bow their heads or do whatever you feel appropriate to quietly honour someone who, like us all, loved their team, in that minute before kick-off when 'Hey Jude' is played. It could simply be a quiet moment of respect for a fellow human being who loved this infuriating team of ours.

Cant we keep this thread free from the Leeds/Leics "they chant worse stuff than we do" stuff and just concentrate on paying respects to Derek?

Theres another thread Respect on Monday for such discussion.

RIP

Is there any official word on what's happening?

It would be helpful if it was announced in advance, so that both sets of fans will know.

I've exchanged emails with Peter Jones regarding this. I'm not going to reprint here everything he's written, and he's not actually answered the question I asked about whether there'd be a minute's silence, but he did say the club have been in close contact with Derek's family.

He also said: "It will be family flowers only with donations to British Heart Fund and Air Ambulance. It has been agreed that if fans want to send letters or cards they can send them to the club for my attention and I will pass them on."

So any FTer who wants to make a donation in Derek's memory, or send a card, you know what to do.
