mmarkie Posted 5 April 2009 Posted 5 April 2009 im very sad to hear about this I really hope the guy made it and RIP if not.
Father Ted Posted 5 April 2009 Posted 5 April 2009 I spoke to someone today who sits only a couple of rows from where it happened. Apparently it took 7 minutes for the ambulance people to come and help.
Darkzzz_ Posted 5 April 2009 Posted 5 April 2009 This is shocking. I am very saddened for his family. Can it be confirmed that he died? Some people seem unsure still. Horrible, I feel angry at myself for moaning about their equaliser now, this puts it all in to perspective. Let's win this title for him.

Yeah it is a very tragic story and like you said puts things into perspective. I doubt that there will be an official announcement. I doubt that the family would want the attention. I know I certainly wouldn't in that position. R.I.P

Matt Posted 5 April 2009 Author Posted 5 April 2009 Hope the leeds fan show respect. I'm sure they will. Aye, Didn't think about that if there is a minutes silence it would be v Leeds (Presuming they would do it at the next home game), It's asking alot from the halfwit Leedscum ain't it?!
Darkzzz_ Posted 5 April 2009 Posted 5 April 2009 It's asking alot from the halfwit Leedscum ain't it?! Yes it certainly is.
stez Posted 5 April 2009 Posted 5 April 2009 I spoke to someone today who sits only a couple of rows from where it happened. Apparently it took 7 minutes for the ambulance people to come and help. i wasn't far (in the 2nd half) and i heard the shouting, but presumed it was aimed at the players and i'd guess it's not easy finding one person, who is right at the back, in a large crowd. i don't know if anyone, from the vicinity, went down to get a first aider, mind you.
jackie145 Posted 5 April 2009 Posted 5 April 2009 Yes it certainly is. saw what was going on from the kop knew it was serious didnt celebrate fryatts goal didnt seem right when someone was fighting for their life
thesilverbluefox Posted 5 April 2009 Posted 5 April 2009 My two boys told me someone was ill, very sorry whoever he was and sympathy to family and friends concerned. True Blue R.I.P.
AoWW Posted 5 April 2009 Posted 5 April 2009 Very sad and my sympathy is with all involved. Must have been a dreadful shock to those that were with him and in the vicinity. Is difficult to comment on the level of care he received and the speed with which they responded - I'm sure all anyone on here can do is speculate at this stage. Incidentally, once, in a first aid training session, the trainer emphasised how important it is to call for an ambulance yourself if you witness a serious incident (not to 'assume' someone else has or - particularly within a 'venue' to imagine that the on-site first aiders will have taken that decision). I dunno why but that advice always stuck with me and on two separate occasions I've been glad I remembered it... once, in a school, where it went against all 'protocol' to call them direct and another time at a festival where the St John's first aiders on site were painfully slow to respond - the county ambulance I'd called got there long before they did. Just felt it was worth mentioning in the hope it might be remembered by someone else one day...
Mr Happy Posted 5 April 2009 Posted 5 April 2009 Can anyone confirm if the guy is ok? This is terrible news, from where I sit in the kop I could hear his family shouting for the paramedics, then watched as they were trying to revive him. I hope the guys ok. My condolenses to his family if the news is bad.
mikelcfc Posted 6 April 2009 Posted 6 April 2009 sure hope he pulls through. if the unthinkkable happens, surely there must be some sort of memorial for the guy, maybe name the section/stand he was in after him or somthin or a plaque.. if we can have a plaque up on that old bridge for that everton fan then surely we can do something for our own supporter RIP (hopefully not needed)

I hope the guys ok. My condolenses to his family if the news is bad. I sit in front of the guy and have done since we moved to the Walkers. I believe his name is Derek and he comes from Derby aged about 76. He collapsed right in to the back of my seat and on to my shoulders. We managed to lay him back in his seat and call for the stewards to get medical aid immediately. To be honest the steward seemed totally bemused and confused and instead of radioing for medics called for another steward first! All of us at the back were having a go at them to get medical aid and this seemed to take an age. I'm sorry to say that this delay may not have helped. Could not believe the medics walking around the pitch perimiter not knowing where to go. It seemed obvious to us if they had radio contact the stewards should have directed them as to go in the ground! For the record he always came on his own and he never had any family with him just people that knew him over the years. I reckon an investigation as to why it took so long should be initiated by the club! RIP
BrockwellFox Posted 6 April 2009 Posted 6 April 2009 Very sad news, puts it all into perspective really. RIP. Gonna brush up on my first aid skills after hearing about this.
StanSP Posted 6 April 2009 Posted 6 April 2009 Some guy on 606 emailed Peter Jones asking if the guy had died or if he made it. Unfortunately in the reply, Peter said he had passed away, and the club are looking into the option of having a minutes silence/applause at the next home game. There is also the rumour that as a mark of respect, we wear our black kits against Leeds. It's well worth noting too that there is a lot of respect from other clubs, especially our rival clubs (Cov, Pboro etc...) about this. Peterborough went through the same thing about a month ago against MK Dons.

I'm confident some Leeds fans would make every effort to disrupt a minutes silence. I just hope that if they do, our fans will have the sense to - silently - show them the contempt they deserve by completely ignoring them, rather than reacting and exacerbating the situation.
