Filling out the form on paper owns any online system for student finance! :D

I'm a busy man i don't have 16 hours to fill out a form. It's a beast!

Did mine last week :). Got an email back saying application can now be supported.

Didn't realise the deadline was next week though!

There shouldn't be a deadline, what about people who apply late to University? Or is this just for continuing students? God I'm fooked off today.

The paper form is a real bitch, I still have all the documents at home; I was given like 4 booklets to help fill in the form, it's no surprise I misunderstood the system a year later when I got a letter through saying I now owed X + 4.8%.

When I've renewed it online though for the 2nd and 3rd years it's just been a confirmation exercise taking only a couple of minutes?

From what I gathered though, you only have to complete by the deadline to be guaranteed payment by the start of term. If you apply late you might still get it same time as anyone else, but equally it might be 2 weeks late. I know someone who applied only 2 weeks before the term began and they got it within a month.

I've just tried to apply for my final year funding. I got half way through and this message popped up: An error has occurred while processing your request. This has been automatically reported to the system administrator, who will investigate and address the problem. Please wait for 24 hours and then re-try your request.

Ducking hell. Did mine ages ago and it said that because I had applied last year, they had all my parents details etc and they would be notified to confirm my details. Have they? Have they balls.

My application status is on 'awaiting further information'. My mum and dad haven't had any letters, emails or phone calls. I clicked the button for those to support the application but then it's on about an Alias ID and parents log-in details. "If you don't have this you can check it on my correspondents". I go to that section but it won't let me bring up any of the details.

Sigh.

That's exactly where I am too. Least I know I've filled it all out surely now it's over to them.

Bit of an arse seeing as I wanted to make sure all this has gone through before accomodaion.

Here's another thing, I challenge one of you to ring them up with a problem.

I got put through to a Scottish call centre and I couldn't understand a single word she said, she had to repeat every sentence about 3 times and then I'd just guess from the one or two words I caught.

I couldn't be arsed to find my password so guessed 3 times, not knowing it would lock me out for good :whistle:

They have located to Newcastle now so slightly easier to understand. I had to ring them the other week and their customer services has improved. It's the website that's a pain in the arse. Just in the middle of sorting mine out for next year, it had better go smoothly this time around else I will be kick off big time.

Completed my application part - i think. Still needs my passport apparently. Plus my parents need to fill this out too.

Do we really only get 3k? How the fook am i sposed to live of that when i can barely manage on 12k this year!

:unsure: what's all this talk of a 'deadline' round about now? there is no real 'deadline' around this time - you can apply for student finance any time until you start your degree; indeed, you can even apply 9 months after you start if you really want.

what everyone is calling a 'deadline' is in fact just their gurantee date for you receive the money at the start of term if you apply for non-income-assessed support (income-assessed gurantee date, as someone has said, is in june sometime)....but in reality that's a load of bollocks anyway. i know a bloke who applied last year about 2 weeks before he started, and still got his money at the start. the only reason they have this date is because like all of these national systems the whole thing is bloated beyond belief and the SLC have basically shit themselves over having a backlash against them. so this april 24 date is really just a bit of self-protection...i mean do you really think it takes almost 6 months to process the non-income assessed applications, even with the huge increase in numbers this year? deos it hell...not even the SLC are that inefficient

the reality is that as long as you apply within the next month or there's a 90%+ chance you'll still get it before you start. i know for a lot of people it really matters to have it at the start, so fair enough. but there's no use panicking - it's precisely because everyone gets drawn into applying at precisely the same time that their system gets overloaded. the only reason they put this guarantee date so early is so that otherwise everyone would apply at the same time in the summer and they really would be fooked. it just gives them a 6-month window to clear the shitstorm after this time of year.

i mean in some cases they can't even assess you anyway, given that the money you get depends on whether you study in london or not (and some people may not know this even until results day). it's like all things with these quangos...you're i the lap of the gods really. you only have to speak to the on the phone to realise most of them haven't got a clue...i mean why do you think the system or their location have changed so many times over the past few years?

sorry, just been watching 'in the thick of it' ...as some of you may be able to tell :crylaugh:
