bald reynard Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 Do people agree that we (desperately) need to set up a Reserve team for the coming season - and enter a decent Reserve League. Cost constraints (it was said !) meant we couldn't afford to do it in 2008/9 - but I think we really need to sort it out for next season (we should be able to afford it this year, with the expected TV income). We need competitive matches for those not playing regularly in the first team - and help build a Championship quality squad. COME ON NIGE / MANDY, SET THIS UP ! I hope it's not too late.

C-man Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 Yeah, we could really do with a proper (half competitive) reserve team. Bring the likes of Billy Kee and and Tom Parkes through and giving some of the lesser used squad players more game time.
Koke Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 Thracian has been banging on about this for ages, and he's right, we definitely need a reserve team for next season.
Joe. Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 Yeah, we could really do with a proper (half competitive) reserve team. Bring the likes of Billy Kee and and Tom Parkes through and giving some of the lesser used squad players more game time. I think we could do with one too. Players like Adams and co. who aren't going to be anywhere near the first team barring injury miracles will get unfit quickly with no match time. As you say, it'd be useful for the youngsters too.
maddog Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 Now we're back in the Championship we 100% need a reserve team.
Cobbo Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 I agree - get in the reserve leagues. We have enough players & youth lads that need to play more.
Daggers Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 Need: 1. A bigger squad 2. More flair 3. A reserve league to keep players match fit
Outfox the Fox Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 Couldn't agree more - we really do need to enter a team in an established Reserve League - preferably with other Championship and Premiership clubs. Is the Pontins League still going? Whose responsibility is it at the club to enter a team - Lee Hoos?
Ultra Posted 24 April 2009 Posted 24 April 2009 I read somewhere that Lee Hoos was considering bringing back Family Night Football. If there's a suitable league for the reserve team to play in, he should go for it. With all respect to Thracian and other Hinckley-based posters, we'll get bigger crowds at the Way than at Hinckley United for second-team fixtures.
Lillehamring Posted 24 April 2009 Posted 24 April 2009 No Brainer ah, you say that, but i get the feeling that in the mind of the money men at the club, it is better to loan out players than run a second string team.... of course this is something of a false economy, naturally it is better that our players get used to playing alongside each other, which they won't get on loan, that said, loans are probably more competitive, and provide more experience of playing in pressure situations. tricky one....
