Before anyone laughs and/or takes the piss that may know me.

Is anyone on here a police officer?

Or does anyone have any information on how they recruit and all that sorta thing?

Don't know how you get in, but I know that once you are in then there are some good bonuses to be had sellin greenery, round uns and stone.

Probably not too many of em do it though.

I'm sure it's not too hard to get in if you don't have a criminal record and are reasonably bright. There is alot of training to go through though.

There was a thread about this sometime before. I seem to remember someone saying it was worth looking into volunteering as a Special Constable first to show you're keen. Something along those lines.

A little off topic but slightly related. I do some decorating at a school during the school holidays, I'm never there during term time but I had a letter this morning telling me I had to have a Criminal Records Bureau check. I don't mind but it seems to be a bit OTT to me.

there are rumours about you...

I think nowadays, they ease you in, by making you a PCSO, (Police Community Support Officer) kind of like an apprenticeship thing.

I think I'm going to have to go in Connexions or somewhere like that to find out more, dont think they have recruitment offices like the army do.

Wouldnt mind being a copper myself, Connections are good, they have a good database jam packed of info about careers.

I believe each force is responsible for its own recruitment, so it might be worth checking out their website.

The employers have probably been reading the Daily Mail and got a bit worried by all the headlines

ARE PAEDOPHILES GIVING ENGLAND SWINE FLU?

Sorry, couldn't resist :D:thumbup:

Sir Fynwy did the graduate initial assessment to join Leicestershire Police about 15 years ago, and failed, so it might be worth talking to him, as he knows why.

He's just told me that the assessment itself is easy; a general literacy and numeracy multiple choice test, which was apparently easy. Then there was an observation test, then a physical test, then there was a role play session, and attitude assessments.

He failed the last one, as he is quite liberally minded at times. He says that you will need to adapt a fairly conservative attitude, but you will also need to show a willingness to get stuck in.

He also says that depending on your mates, you might want to get used to the idea that some might resent your choice of career for a number of reasons.

Cheers for that, all very interesting and useful.

Im going to have a go at it, got nothing to lose the way I see it and shall be making a few phonecalls tomorrow to find out more about where to take it from here.

Cheers again :)

Yeah, not a Police Officer (yet!) but i've got some info.

I'm not sure about Leicestershire, but with Northamptonshire Police i had to attend an information evening where i got given an application pack and some help with filling in the form (which didn't really help at all!).

The questions are pretty damn hard, sites such as the ones i'll put below really helped me.

The biggest problem i found was with the competency questions. I'd hardly experienced any of the situations it was asking of me as i'm fairly young, so i left it a couple of months and managed to place myself in such situations lol

Of course, you can bullshit some/all of them, but my mate did that and failed them all lol

If you're interested i could PM you the competencies, just so you know what they are and you can start thinking ahead now? I've also got an official framework of what they're looking for in the answers.

The sites that helped me a lot are...

http://www.ukpoliceonline.co.uk/ - the forum is most useful

http://www.policespecials.com/ - though it's a site for police specials, it has a lot of helpful information on the forum regarding both the specials and regular police recruiting.

As well as the application form, you have to have an eyetest and get your GP to fill in a form. So it'l probably cost you around £40 just to apply.

After that should you get through, you have to go to an assesment centre and do a few roleplays, a formal interview and a fitness test.

I'm told the process can take as long as 18 months to pass everything, depending on the force.

If you choose to apply, good luck

Good luck applying for the police force. I was reading the paper one day and saw a picture of some guy i went college with in a police uniform. I couldn't believe it.

I wanted to be a cop in recent years. But i think i'd end up pinning a criminal down with one foot and say-

"Kiss my boots bitch! you're off to jail"

Then the sack.

If you've got a degree, there's a fast track procedure, plus if your an ethnic minority, you get preferantial treatment!!

You sure? My Daughter was told by a recruitment officer that was a misconception that a lot of people have? You still have to do 2 years as a PC I think then apply for the next level she was told. She wants to do a degree then possibly join up hoping to join the CID eventually.
