Hullfox Posted 7 May 2009 Posted 7 May 2009 Thinking of getting Sky HD. Is it worth it? At the moment there's a 3 month's wait from date of order.
Steven Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 Thinking of getting Sky HD. Is it worth it? I do think you need a decent TV to fully exploit it. That said the sound and picture quality is much better than normal TV.
Sir Fynwy Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 Recently got rid of Sky totally and moved to Freesat HD, Sky is totally overpriced and I'm happy to be back with free TV. Freesat HD only has 1 fulltime HD channel (BBC HD) but you get the Chamipons league matches on ITV in HD and the quality is great.

It still doesn't sort out the problem of Clive Tyldesley and David Pleat.

It has become ridiculous, I don't have Sky HD just standard Sky but we are going to go with freesat, besides we pick up our European football from the numerous Polish, Italian and German channels through our other satellite receiver. Murdoch won't get another penny! Visually yes. It still doesn't sort out the problem of Clive Tyldesley and David Pleat. I wonder why ITV haven't yet offered to give the public a choice between listening to the crowd instead of those two muppets. At least Sky does have this option.
Alexikokopops Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 Why not get all your multimedia services from one provider...
Steven Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 Visually yes. It still doesn't sort out the problem of Clive Tyldesley and David Pleat. I am not sure if there is anything out there that could solve that problem. ITV need to wake when it comes to football coverage. <_<
Granno Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 Why not get all your multimedia services from one provider... I do, not got a bad word to say about Virgin
Munzie Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 Thinking of getting Sky HD. Is it worth it? For sporting events its fantastic. Much sharper image and sound. For most films, its good too. However, there are many films shown on the HD chanels that are clearly not shot in high definition. Although the picture quality is an improvement, its nowhere near what I expected. My main gripe is that not all programmes shown on the HD channels are actually in HD. You have to look out for the little 'HD' logo in the information panel. In summary, it's worth getting just for the sport. If you want good quality films, get a blue-ray player.
AmericanScott Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 Why not get all your multimedia services from one provider... We were going to get Virgin media but apparently it wasn't available in our area at the time. I was very upset

Murdoch won't get another penny! Same here - I ain't paying a penny to Murdoch. I pick up my football a bit illegally though. But Al-Jazeera Sports pisses all over Sky. I've never had Sky and never will.

Legend_in_blue Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 I am currently a month into a three month long waiting list. Total joke. This was due to my current sky+ box packing up so rather than spend £65 on a callout I opted for the £49 sky HD box. I am aware of the extra £10 cost per month for it. But, I'm not bothered. I reckon they're delibrately sabotaging sky+ boxes so you'll shift across. I'm glad I didn't take out the £99 per year warranty crap on the old box also. Total rip off too.
Webbo Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 Even our national service? What's the difference between Virgin Free TV and normal Freeview?
Guest Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 I reckon they're delibrately sabotaging sky+ boxes so you'll shift across. To be fair, they aren't built to last. You can always buy a second hand box from ebay (people who choose to upgrade like to cash in on other people's misfortunes).
Alexikokopops Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 What's the difference between Virgin Free TV and normal Freeview? It makes it easier to upgrade you to bigger TV packages
Phube Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 Every Penny (if you have a HD TV & Movies + Sports!) Example taken during the Olympics last year... the Boxing. Bear in mind this is the score that was in the very corner of the screen!
Darkzzz_ Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 Murdoch really doesn't surprise me with what he is trying there. My girlfriend told me she wants to get a Virgin package today.
Uncle Albert Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 My mates have got Sky HD and I think it is bloody brilliant. You can certainly see the difference. Lovely watching the Football or an action film with it in HD. Cant wait till my Mum gives in to my pleas and lets us get Sky HD.
ASH17LCFC Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 Sky HD isn't worth it, we had it and you seriously couldn't tell. I use to watch it on normal channel in the end.
Phube Posted 9 May 2009 Posted 9 May 2009 Sky HD isn't worth it, we had it and you seriously couldn't tell. I use to watch it on normal channel in the end. Then you need to see an optician...
